All Olympic Basketball games to be aired LIVE
This is great news. We'll get to see each game from Team USA and each game from Team Rudy...err...who's he play for again?
Fantastic. I'm every bit as excited about watching Rudy play in the Olympics as I was to see Bayless in the Summer League. Now we just have to find a way to get Dave over to China so he can blog during the games.

This is the right thing to do.
Team USA Basketball should be one of the bigger draws for ratings, right?

Well, were I'll be during the Olympics all events will be aired live around the clock on several channels
Wohoo for national free public television with rights to all major sports events. But nice that NBC starts to realize how big the Olympics are and that games/matches/competitions can be interesting to watch even when no US guys are competing right now. They already paid a lot of money for the rights, now it’s good that they are willing to show more of their product…

hey,
can they play the nba on nbc song for the olympic games? IDK if the Olympic committee would allow this, but it would be super cool if they did. Would bring back so many good (and bad) memories…

FYI, John Tesh wrote that song
I love it too. I wish that NBC still had the NBA games of the week, Marv Albert is the best announcer IMO. Ugh, ABC has put Hubie “I always speak in the 2nd person” Brown, Al “why am not on MNF” Michaels, Magic “where am I” Johnson, Isiah “I have the most effeminate voice of any former NBA player” Thomas on their telecasts. Bring back Marv “I love biting woman’s backs” Alberts and John Tesh’s song. Yes!

I assumed this would happen and I am ecstatic it did!!!
This guy(me) is rooting for Spain and Rudy to beat the team that represents the country I have lived my entire life in. My problem is, I love the US of A, but we have a wife beater, a rapist(allegedly ::cough::), and a drunk driver in the starting lineup representing our country. I cant root for these type of people anymore….

Sounds like a clear case...
of familiarity breeding contempt. How do you know what the players on the less familiar team are made of?

I’d never hit my wife but I hold no ill will towards Kidd for the incidents with his wife. She seems kind of nuts and we’re not getting the whole story.

Totally agree
It’s not unpatriotic to root against the US IMO- go Rudy and Team Espana. Why can’t you root for other countries’ athletes if it’s a good story or if the US athletes are thugs, cheaters, or convicts. You can still support the troops and be against the Iraq war. It is similar to being supportive of the US in the Olympics in events where you enjoy the athletes (not drugged up track and field athletes i.e. Marion Jones or wife beating NBA players like Kidd). Go Rudy and Spain!
Why don’t we go back to using amateur basketball players in the Olympics, instead of these unlikable dream teams. Wouldn’t it be fun to root for a bunch of college kids competing like every other Olympic event.

every other Olympic event?
Many of the athletes are indeed amateurs, but there are plenty of other Olympic athletes (track, tennis, soccer, etc.) who play their sport professionally.

I was listening to Dan Patrick and he had some guy from Sports Illustrated on
The dude said that America won’t win gold in in basketball in the next 3 Olympics. People accused him of being unpatriotic. The dude said that the international game is about continuity and he though Spain was going to win it all this year.
It’s a fuzzy line for me regarding patriotism. It’s easy to say that Americans who root for Spain, don’t support our troops, because it’s true. On the other hand, it’s just a basketball game, and even though my grandfathers fought in WWII so that Americans could represent us in the Olympics, it is still every Americans right to hate their country and everything it stands for by rooting for Spain. I guess it’s just a simple matter of choice like abortion and paper or plastic.

I'm thinking you really didn't want to talk about abortion being a choice but
I would suggest you just don’t bring that topic up TiH. I find your post’s entertaining for the most part but lets not go down that path shall we.

I’m not sure any further conversation is really required.
Also… GO SPAIN!!!
In seriousness, of course I want my country, but Spain will be the second choice, and if they play… I want Rudy to do well no matter WHAT that means.

Just so you know
I’m giving you warning, but I’m pretty sure I’ll offend you again. Even though it comes natural to me, I don’t like doing it. I don’t like making people uncomfortable; I just find a lot of offensive things funny. I mean a whole lot of offensive things funny. It’s nice to know the limits on Blazers Edge though, because it is important to play to the audience. I won’t bring the subject in question up again.

This sort of thing kind of boils my taters....
I don’t consider rooting for a non American team unpatriotic, rooting for Spain in no way equates to me hating my country and everything it stands for. Its just a basketball game, lets save the ridicule for people who burn US flags and spit on the constitution daily while enjoying all the benefits of living in this country.
Its also unfair to assume that me rooting for Spain automatically means I don’t support our troops, the two are not tied together at all. Playing basketball and risking your life for your country are two very, very different things. A person that doesn’t support our troops IS unpatriotic in my mind. I just think it is a little bit ignorant to say someone rooting against USA basketball doesn’t care about this country, especially when some of our representatives have done reprehensible things that our society seriously frowns upon. My intention is not to sound harsh or snarky, I just want to defend my choice to root for Spain and as well as my patriotism. Its not like I would be upset if team USA wins gold, I would be happy for our guys…..

I don't see it that way
I’ve seen a lot of videos on NBA TV of the US Olympic team supporting our troops. If you don’t support the guys that support the troops, then you might as well live in Imagination Land with Paul Harvey while you both watch reruns of Golden Girls while singing Yellow Rose of Texas.

But I support the troops and you don’t support me, so we are all in imagination land together!! Yippeee!!!!! I see where you are coming from TiH and I find your devotion and service to this country very, very admirable. I guess we just disagree on this one and thats ok with me. I am pretty secure with the things I have done to support USA and especially our military that is responsible for me sleeping safely every night. Besides, the golden girls are hot, who wouldn’t want to stare at those cougars every day!!!!

Sweet
You just made my day. I’ll make sure to root for Rudy, but I’d still like the USA to win the whole thing because I’m jingoistic like that. I think we’re due for another Carter-dunking-over-Weiss-type of moment. Maybe Howard can provide one.

I am looking at the Olympic Basketball as perhaps the finest basketball in the world
and my enjoyment will not be much tarnished no matter who stands on the podium. I do not support all the players on the USA team but together they do represent the country. And Coach Nate is donating a huge chunk of his off time for 3 years to make it happen. I respect that. I am also cognizant that a huge tournament from Rudy will make it harder for us to assimilate him and to keep him. I wish him a good tournament and most of all a healthy one.
On a related note I grew up citing the Pledge of Allegiance every school day. It included “one nation, under God, indivisible”. Now I hear daily on sports radio and TV how we have Red Sox Nation and Dodger Nation and Celtic Nation and I get confused with all the divisions. What happened to indivisible? (this is not a post on religion). Where did all these other nations come from?
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

People are going to start talking about the Fernandez face very soon.
The difference is that Rudolfo will smile charmingly at whichever opponent he’s humiliating at the moment. That’s when they’ll realize they’ve been posterized.
