Not worth it

I don’t think we need Dudley or Mohammed, and while I like Wallace’s athleticism, I don’t think we need him. He is a better rebounder, defender (by quite a bit), but Travis can shoot much better. I don’t think it puts us over the top, and I think we could do more with RLEC.

Plus I’m not sure Charlotte does this deal.

no

We don’t get enough in return for sacrificing cap space, Travis and a pick.

Interesting and more balanced, yet I think none of the involved teams really likes this deal

New Jersey: They just lost their center to Russia. Now their front-court is pretty thin, unless they are really convinced Lopez is the real deal. I doubt they would want to trade one of their young big men, although getting rid of Carter might seal the deal

Charlotte: The first team to say no in this trade, even if they would get a pick, too. They are looking for a good center so that their newly re-signed Okafor can play at PF (which most people think is his natural position). They were desperate enough to trade two decent players (one of them their starting center) to get Mohammed and solve this problem – who unfortunately didn’t show much improvement. Sean Williams (who I think is more a 4 than a 5) could be a really good backup for Okafor, but not play that much next to him. And maybe most important, why would they want to pay Vince Carter’s crazy contract when they already have a great player on his position but lose two small forwards? Who starts for them at 3, Morrison? Or two 6’6 players (think Roy playing SF)?

Portland: No need for Dudley and Mohammed on our roster. Wallace would certainly be an upgrade especially on defense, but he brings injury concerns with his playing style (one more concussion and he could be seriously hurt) and is not a great outside shooter. And I too think we could get a little better player (maybe even a younger one, though Wallace is certainly not old) for this combination of player plus pick(s) plus cap relief.

Odenied: Coach, I promise I wasn't running hard ...

Im confused

why would we do this? I certainly dont overvalue Outlaw, he is slightly worse than Wallace, but we take on Nazr Mohammeds dead weight, Jared 11th man Dudley and we lose Raef LaFrentz Exhumed Corpse.. not worth it at all to me

I remember the good old days. The Rasta Monsta days.

Nice try

But I agree that it is a cloud of dust where nothing is really accomplished at the end of the day.

I could see this better if it were Martell or Frye.

ok how bout this

if we can doop atlanta in to this
raef lafrentz, steve blake, sergio hotrod, and 1st round pick 2009 or 2010
to atlanta for acie law and mike bibby we would come out of this deal way on top and have more cap space next summer we would gain 4.250.000 off our cap plus mike bibby is better then any one on our team now

by topher223 on Jul 29, 2008 6:20 PM PDT reply actions

Bibby is the wrong player

to match with Roy. Bibby is a play maker who need the ball…a lot. What does that leave Brandon and vise-versa?

by fat27 on Jul 29, 2008 7:01 PM PDT up reply actions

If Wallace could shoot the three and had about ten less concussions

then it might make some sense. Actually, if he were just healthy, I wouldn’t hate it, although I don’t think Portland would toss a first rounder into the mix (if that was where the first rounder was coming from).

He would be a lockdown perimeter defender capable of still providing something on the offensive end (where the Blazers have as many weapons as any other team in the league, anyway). But I think the Blazers will go after a three guy who can lockdown perimeter aces AND stretch the defense with three-point range (a young Bruce Bowen without the criminal intentions).

As for Bibby/Acie Law, don’t like either one of them. I think Bayless will be better than Bibby by the midway point this season. And I think Blake’s locker room presence is much better than Bibby’s.

Bayless isn't the second coming of Jordan.
Jordan was the first coming of Bayless.

Bayless Bibby & Blake

Could be a reputable law firm.

Or would it be Bibby Bayless & Blake?

Bibby? worst fit possible

not only is Bibby a terrible fit for the Blazers, he’s terrible for any team. Bibby is horribly inefficient (PER of 14.55) and far past his prime. He’s one of the volume shooters that takes away from team basketball (i.e. Z. Randolph) which is a trailblazer strength.

As for the Gerald Wallace trade… very true, we have no need for mohammed or another Dudley on the team, but Wallace would definitely be an upgrade to Outlaw. He’s a more efficient scorer and plays great defense, he’s also the type of payer that doesn’t need the ball to make an impact. He scores off rebounds, loose balls, and steals. We already have enough players to run the offense through (Roy, Aldridge, Bayless, ~Oden), Wallace would be a Marion type player for us and he would also help us on Defense, debate-ably the most needed area of improvement..

but is that worth the useless add ons and the loss of Outlaw? maybe, probably. but why mess with something great… We need to see how this new team meshes before we go off trading them.

no offense

but I think thats a dumb deal for Portland, we give up Outlaw, RLEC and next year’s first rounder for what???? Wallace is the only decent thing coming our way, so I say no way, KP can do alot with that 1st rounder!! plus Outlaw is going to be a great 6th man and RLEC is worth much more to us than wallace, I don’t believe he fits our team
