The Drawer o' Junk - 7/29
The "Where for art thou, Rudy" FanPost got my Shakespearean muscle a-pumpin'. So for today's Junk Drawer, I decided to start off by quoting The Bard's Sonnet 130:
My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red:
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound.
I grant I never saw a goddess go:
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground.
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

I can't dunk
I don’t need the Summer League. I get to watch the real Golden State and real LA Lakers play in the preseason. At least it’s almost NBA caliber basketball. With that said, I might have my wife convinced to go the Summer League next summer because it’s an excuse to go to Vegas and there are always specials from here to Las Vegas.

Is it the '77 team?
I’m soooo sick of that team. I don’t even think they’re real, since they were around before I was born.
Before I was born, there was no world, no Blazers, no anything. Just a formless void patiently awaiting my birth, and for Greg Oden to become a Blazer.
I’m pretty sure no one is even alive who remembers the ‘77 team, and their exploits are just amplified by myth and legend that grew over time. It’s like the Civil War or Vietnam; the generations who lived through those times are long gone and the only records that remain are filled with inconsistencies and known factual errors. Most don’t realize, the Vietnam war was fought against and IN Vietnam, and is not why the Dodgers left Brooklyn.
So you can take your ‘77 team and keep it, kind sir!
I got my current team, and it’s actually a real team not made up by olde-tymey tricksters.

Expect hard work in rehab for several months
From your perspective, the surgery isn’t the big problem if the doctors are doing their job, some swelling, maybe some pain.
But in rehab you really have to work hard to get your old flexibility back. Stretching and flexing your knee to the angles you are used to can be a painful problem at first. Though this seems to be depending on the operation method used i.e. if they add artificial “nylon” ligaments or just connect the existing “strings” (which shortens it). And you have to rebuild quite a lot of muscle mass. Depending on how old you are though, after rehabbing it the damaged “new” knee can be better than the old one with slightly “loose” ligaments. Skiing? No problem.
Oh, and don’t start with sports again too early. Think Oden, Oden, Oden. Good luck.

JailBlazer Jersey
As I drove down 122nd Ave on Saturday, I spotted what looked like a young punk in a Raider’s cap wearing a JR Rider Blazer jersey. Don’t see many of those jerseys around these days, thankfully.

uh oh
That’s the only jersey I have. It’s a hand-me-down! I used to really like it because it represented everything that was wrong with the franchise. Now that they’re back I feel kind of guilty for wearing it. Who’s should I get to replace? Outlaw? I like me some Outlaw. Maybe I’ll wait for Bayless or Rudy to show what they got.

Jerseys
Hey, don’t worry about it. I liked Rider’s game before he spouted off about racists, etc. Then I couldn’t stand him or his game.
FWIW, one of my former employees was Damon Stoudamire’s cousin, and she had him give me a signed jersey. She even invited me to use their families luxury suite. Not sure how sincere she was in offering, but I never had the chance to take them up on it.

And it’s doubtful Green will ever play for the Knicks as they seem intend on waiving his and Jones non-guaranteed contracts to save some salary (maybe he has to report).

Right ;-)
It cost the Heat the future first round pick to get him and, uhm, future All-Star center Mark Blount. Really ouch. Or to get rid of Antoine “The Body” Walker. However you want to put it.
Oh, and ESPN reports now that the Bobcats shelled out $72 million over 6 years to keep Emeka Okafor. Seems to be the going rate for decent big men (Biedrins, Bogut, even Diop got a more than adequate deal). Apparently they didn’t get good sign and trade offers and Okafor preferred the security of getting his contract extended now over waiting another year (at 7 million, not bad) to become an unrestricted free agent and go to a true contender, though the Bobcats might have a shot at making the playoffs in the east in the next two years.

Spanish club CAI Zaragoza is close to signing Knicks guard Taurean Green (Heraldo.es curtsy of hoopshype). I’m glad he’ll finally get somewhere to go and play. I think he’s a little too small to play in the NBA. I believe he can do nice things in Europe.

One can only hope that the independent referee probe contracted by the NBA has a similar statistical, and thereby impartial (theoretically) analysis. If nothing else, the analysis from 82games.com reminds us that there are some bad calls out there, but not nearly as many as we see when we’re acting the part of passionate fan.

Nic Batum Article
This story is a little old but I was saddened when I read this part.
3. The father’s lesson. His father, Henry Batum, was a professional player in France for 10 years. “He died on the court when I was 2 years old,’’ Nicolas says. Henry Batum was at the free-throw line when he suffered a massive heart attack.
Unlike his son, he was a thickly built player, a 6-7 rebounder who played under the basket. “Me, I am a wing, so we have not the same game,’’ Batum says. “I think he is watching me.
“I try to finish what he begins. I play basketball also for him. If he is there, I think his wildest dream is to watch me go in the NBA. So I try to make that for him.’‘
His mother, a nanny, raised Batum and his sister, who was two months old when their father died. “My mother is very, very important in my life,’’ he says. “I think if I go to the NBA, she will follow me next year with my sister. Every time I make a good game, she is there. She is telling me, ‘You are good, you will be good next year.’ She is trying to keep me comfortable, to just think about basketball. Don’t think of the girls, the agent, the money. Just think basketball.’‘

How great would the ending be
to the made for TV movie, about this year’s championship, if Batum died moments after sinking the game winning free throws in game 7 of the Finals? He would have to profess his love for BlazerFan1 and mention his father to truly making it Emmy worthy.
After that he would inspire the team towards at least four more championships. The problem would come from someone writing a diary about KP killing Batum as part of some devious master plan.

It would probably explode upon birth.
What if Batum had a baby with Eddy Curry? The kid would have Batum’s athleticism, Curry’s meat on the bones, and a heart that works for 2 weeks, 3 weeks if it doesn’t eat any butter or takes lipitor.

I’ve broken both of my arms. Not at once, that would suck..bad. I was 4 and fell of my tricycle and broke my right arm.
When I was in 5th grade I was participating in a bball tourney and I played on my big brother bball team. The other teams center had the ball and I stripped him and took off full speed towards my basket…right before I went up for the layin i BIT IT…HARD. I just tripped, over nothing, and yes I looked just like Jarrett Jack. My left arm snapped in half.. that sucks. That sound is extremely objectionable, let me tell you. Anywho, I had to sit out the rest of the championship season…so depressing..

I've had some booboos
Broke my leg, a few ribs, some toes, some foot bones, knuckle bones, fingers, all from various activities.
I got stitches on my chin during HS football when it got split open when I got tackled and my dog that passed away 2 years ago once bit my lips off when I was 17.
I was trying to kiss him on his forehead to say goodnight, and he was having a bad dream and snapped and split open my top lip and made the bottom lip dangle off. He felt bad about it though, it was my fault.
It was a lot of stitches.
Football was by far my least favorite sport ever and I still got booboos that hurt me from it.

I think he's in denial
He uses his precious numbers, ohhh the numbers! to “prove” what he’s saying but it’s outlandish and shows that numbers don’t prove everything.
He wants his team to be good, I guess, instead of realizing they don’t got the pieces for real goodness. So, he belittles the other young team’s players.
It’s crazy. Keith Van Horn? I dunno man, I dunno… makes me wonder about the rest of his analysis.
Is he the dude who RUNS that site?

What's his face, on the Jazz
RONNIE BREWER, that’s who it is, he had a bad broken arm as a kid and learned to shoot while his arm was hurt (or something like that) and that’s why he shoots so goofy with his shooting elbow all off to the side like he was hopped up on goofballs.
So your kid will make it!

I was a really bad mommy
I broke my son’s collarbone. Not intentionally, but it was him or me … his shoulders were too wide for the birth canal. The ob said later, “I thought I heard something snap.” I didn’t need to know that. They didn’t do a thing for it, but it healed just fine and he’s had no problems (and he’s over 30.)

I had two hernia surgeries when I was about a year old - so no memories
Healed really good (as most injuries as a kid do). Small barely noticeable scars although I grew x times since then. Sometimes I have the feeling that one side is a little softer, but no pain. Can also be done as a laparoscopic surgery today in most cases, then the scars are even smaller but at different positions ;-)
As of breaking something, I’m knocking on wood. I think I once got a bball on a joint in my middle finger, but that healed by itself pretty good.

I heard a Cheech and Chong comedy album for the first time back in '73 or '74
and have enjoyed their silly humor ever since. Up In Smoke was the favorite movie of the group of friends that I hung out with in the ‘80’s. We watched it hundreds of times and never got tired of it.

Me too
That is why I liked That 70s Show so much. It was exactly my life…including the circle…lol. And Tommy Chong was on all the time. Too too funny

Whither Koponen?
Brian Hendrickson says it might be awhile before we know. KP and Tom Penn are on vacation for a couple of weeks. BH conjectures that it all depends on what Euro teams offer Petteri. If its a team where he’ll get competition they’ll let him sign, if it’s a lesser league the Blazers will sign him.
"We, as Blazer fans, are perhaps the luckiest fans in the league."-Idog1976, July 19.

not quite bill --- name that tune
Gonna be standing in line for tix I’ll never get in
its like the start of the third and I know were gonna win
this game hasnt played out
Quite the way I planned
(Let me tell you what I want)
I want spanking view from an elevated crib
and a kitchen I can play Battlefield in
And a bucket of ribs
Bring enough for twelve plus me
(yea, so you in need?)
I need a new commercial with no love in it
and that luxury box with a red room sinis
Gonna join D Miles high club?
....Its thirty thousand feet
(Been there, done that)
I want a front row seat in the center of the laughter
Porters jersey above hanging from the rafters
Somewhere between Petrie
and Steele’s fine yes we agree
(So how do you want this?)
I’d never trade my life
as a Trail Blazer fan
I’d rather cut down my hair
embark a lker ban
Cuz we all just wanna be Trail Blazer fans
with west hills houses, driving mini-vans
That guy is cheesy but comcasts not cheap
We all hope petteri joins the elite
And we’ll all hang out near our superstars
Future MVP heals bobs former scars
No more gold-diggers gonna wind up there
Every Trail Blazer dancers got that certain flare
Then we’ll bide out time in the summer room
With Thesaurus-dictionary and Daves thoughts anew
He’ll give you everything with that evil cat smile
Every Bedgers got opinions all the while
Hey I am red white and black
Hey I am red white and black
We’re better then Elvis even sporting tassles
Twelve LA Lkers couldnt wipe our
Find another jersey to wear
Cuz Bryants worn out
I think I’ll make this post
bout how I love the passion
Want a front door key to Paul Allens’s mansion
Wanna find a centerfold that loves the
PTB as much as me
Im gonna plagarize songs
offending anyone mensa
Gonna be here forever
Got no fear of the censor
When they ask me why I post all day
I say because I can
I’ll get former Blazers teaching all the moves
Elbow to the chest is what Lucas always proved
Then listen to the fans Bedge how dang good we are

Spruce that up and you got something
I have been trying to think of a new song to rewrite myself. I need to watch reruns of “I love the 70’s” and get inspired. Maybe something about Bayless.

my version of red and black was better
seems like to pass the time Dave would start a best plagarist competition for us to keep ourselves busy. But I cant speak for Dave as I owe him money.
