Tmac A Blazer?
i know he's not the most well liked guy around here...usually cuz he takes it to us. That said, Tmac is one of the most talented players in the game, and is often overlooked due to his lack of playoff success.. he might be the second most talented small forward in the league, right behind Lebrizzle.....
so...
Who would we have to trade to get him? What would it take?....Is there a possibility of a sign and trade with our coming free agency money? ie sign a top free agent, package him with young talent, and some first and and second rounders.... not sure, tmac is there guy....but as time goes by im sure houston is coming to grips with the fact that their team, as is, is not going to win a championship.. yao is not a savior, and tmac cant do it by himself...
here though, he'd have a talented bunch of dudes to work with...I gotta think Roy and Tmac would cause problems for any opposing team.....
so i wonder, could we do it without trading our core four....that being Roy,Outlaw, Aldrige Oden....If so, I'm all for it..
Maybe Channing, Webster, a top free agent like Luol Deng, Rudy, and some first and second rounders..........They would have to consider it. Cuz in a couple years, Tmacs "window" shrinks... with us though, we're an immediate contender....yea, yea, houston is too, but really....theyre not knocking anybody off..we on the other hand have a chance to.
Probly not ever gonna happen, but i wanted to hear some other people's takes...Tmac is one of the few people that really could take us to that next level....

I think both roy and Tmac demand the ball too much to play effectively/efficiently together.
Both operate best when they are in control of the offense. And it would take alot to get him. If we could get a houston SF, would rather have Shane B.

We're not trading for T-Mac
We have enough young talent, good chemistry, we don’t need to blow it up for an aging superstar (who isn’t really that good anyway. He can’t get out if the first round!)
We already have the buildings of a good core.
PG-Bayless
SG – Roy
SF – Outlaw
PF -Aldridge
C-Oden
Why on earth wouldn’t you want that team to develop and get really good.
I completely disagree that McGrady can “take us to the next level.” Name one thing he’s ever been successful at? He’s never even sniffed the second round, despite being on teams with plenty of talent

What?
Dude, TMac is injured like 20-30 games of every season it seems like. He’s turning 30 next year, do you really think he’s going to hold up better in the future? What’s the point of this trade? He’s not a complimentary player, he’s a star player. We have our core, we need players to play around them. This doesn’t make any sense. Although maybe Houston would consider it, TMac/Yao are injured half around half the season anyways, and don’t have enough talent to win it all anyways.

I don't see it happening
T-Mac is on the books for $20 million and change next year, and any trade for him will include RLEC AND one or more of the Roy, Oden, Aldridge trio AND a Martell/Trout/Blake contract to make the numbers work out. That seems to be a bit too much for a player who has nagging back injuries, doesn’t play much defense, and hasn’t gotten out of the 1st round of the playoffs in 7 tries.

bunch of negative nancies.....
maybe im the only one who watched houstons last playoff series…..
houston lost inspite of Tmac putting up a Lebron James type effort….he carried that team, and almost won without yao…
O yea, and tmac can play off the ball just fine..
im not suggesting trading any of the core, just suggesting that he makes us better, and if we dont ahve to give up too much to get him, then do it…even if it is only for four or five years…..........plus, he is a vet, and our young guys will respect him…..
and we desperately need a vet…. dont kid yourself thinking otherwise

They didn't almost win
You don’t get it. LMA, Roy, Oden, these guys are going to get the most shots on the team. Where is Tmac going to get his shots? He’s not exactly here for his defensive prowess is he?
Secondly, why would we get a vet to compete for the championship now when our best players are in their 3rd, and 1st year in the league? This doesn’t make any sense. You haven’t made any valid arguments as to why we need a star quality veteran player.
You also haven’t answered the injury concerns.

the injury concerns are real, i'll admit that...
but we do need a vet to teach our youngins…..tmac has more talent than any other small forward not named lebron, and he’s been around…..
o yea, he plays pretty good d too….
people get too hung up on guys taking away touches….all he does is take pressure off of roy

What do you consider a vet?
Raef LaFrentz – 10 years
Joel Przybilla – 8 years
Steve Blake – 5 years
Travis Outlaw – 5 years
Webster, Frye, Diogu – 3 years
According to WikiAnswers the average length of an NBA career is 5 years.

i tend to consider a vet.....
some one who has already established themselves character wise and with their level of play..some one you can count on who’s been in the league for years….some one who is typically 28-37…..so they got an older presence in the locker room…some one who has been through it…...
doesnt bode well for tmac but…..the more playoff experience the better

Too many injuries for me.
When he’s healthy he rains down… no pun intended.. but he’s always hurt. And he’s got some off court troubles that dont mesh w/ our culture. (He has like a couple baby mamaz coming out the woodwork demanding paternity tests and child support).

If you take Rudy out of there I say do it. Doubt Houston would though.

TMac
Sorry, he’s hurt too often.
And while we’ll need a veteran at some point what we’ll want is positive playoff experience. I think any playoff series now will have TMac as on edge as any current Blazer.
Besides, we want a top notch 3 point shooter.
0-3 for TMac.
by KennyV on Jul 27, 2008 12:36 PM PDT 0 recs
Last year,
I would have said yea, go for it. But now we’ve got too many fringe stars (bayless/Rudy/aldridge/outlaw/webster) to accomodate minutes for T-Mac. I love the way he plays, he’s a great point forward a la Scottie Pippin, but we can’t afford his salary or his shot volume.
I have an analogy for where the Blazers are at right now:
I don’t know how many of you remember general chemistry in high school, but there is a lab we did called acid base titration. In a nutshell, you want to neutralize the acidity of a solution by adding small amounts of base or vice versa, until the solution is completely neutral. There is an indicator used for determining when you reach the neutral point (don’t remember what it’s called). Anyway, if you add just enough base to make the solution turn perfectly neutral, the solution goes from colorless to a slight pink. That’s when you know you’re done. If you overshoot with the base, the solution will turn solid red, and you have to redo everything.
Now getting back:
Right now the Blazers are a colorless solution that have added a bunch of base (Rookies), and are waiting to see if we’ve hit the neutral point (championship team). If we don’t wait, and add more base right now (a big trade involving RLEC), then we will overshoot, the solution turns red, and we have to start over, (the dreaded rebuilding phase).

Blast from the past.
I did a post like this a few months ago and it got the exact same response. At least we BEdger’s are consistent. Still, it would be a fun team to watch if Tracy could buy into the team concept and become a more complimentary player than the main attraction. Not likely though.

The bare minimum, to even make the numbers work
Raef + Channing + Martell or Travis for Tmac. And that’s the absolute minimum to make the numbers work and give them a replacement on his position. Houston might be remotely interested in the cap relief when Landry leaves them and they also need to find a good PF, but probably would demand more. Would you really be willing to do even this trade? I think he is still really good, but might decline quickly once our other guys are in their prime. And we spend virtually all our cap space on him, cause he has one year left after this one at $21M. Plus he will still demand a lot of money to extend after his contract is up, right when we also have to extend Roy and LaMarcus.

He wants to be a pitcher in the major leagues. His contract is up in a couple years. He was a pitching star in high school.

I don't think we need a volume shooter right now
So TMac and Vinsanity are out. Same with AI. And since those are the most likely candidates for a salary dump, I’m really hoping we don’t take advantage of RELC for any of them.
TMac could retire at any time, is injured too much, and has never proven himself as a team guy.
The other two are just flat “NO”s, period.

Too Expensive, too old.
KP’s pointing to a chamionship run in 3 years. Next year is to gel and understand the talent we have. Then, we’ll fine tune according to how this group play together next year. By spring, KP and the Blazers will be able to decide what additional pieces are needed, and by summer, we’ll have the cap space to make those changes – if any. Give these players two more years in the league, and Roy, Aldridge, Webster and Frye will be the in their 5th year, Oden, Fernandez and Bayless will be in their 3rd year, and Outlaw, Pryz and Blake will be in their 7th to 9th years. This will provide much of the veteran leadership some are talking about. And, in three TMac will be pushing 33. By then, with his injury history, he’ll be on the downside of his career.
