Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

A Reminder

Hey folks, a reminder for everybody, including myself:

It's cool to get conversations going in various threads, but when somebody makes a fanpost (or even main page post) the discussion should basically revolve around that post's topic.  Little side quips are fine every once in a while, but lately it's starting to be a guessing game whether you're going to read anything at all relating to the post at hand.

I understand completely that humor is a big part of the equation here, especially in the off-season.  I also understand that these familiar conversations contribute to a feeling of family and being at home here.  Both of those are good.  I, myself have engaged in as much silly comment banter lately as I have serious responses.  But not every thread should divert into those.

A reminder also that the daily "Junk Drawer" fanpost is there for exactly this purpose.

So when ...

Are we going to hear an update on how Greg Oden is progressing?

Are little side quips

on topic in this thread, since it’s about them?

Face it, we need the season to start, or at least training camp. There’s no real news to discuss….

No, me.

And you, and JScot. We seem to be the Three Amigos of non-sequturs on this site. I will take my wet-noodle lashing like a man.

Nah

I think those are okay. Those are like the the little bold quote you see in the margin somewhere in a magazine. I think Dave is talking about threads that veer so far off topic that the reader forgets what the diary was all about. We’re all guilty of it sometimes. I know for me personally, once I read the diary and then come back, I’m just responding to the comments. I think we need to realize that we need to respect the subject the author presented to us and try to avoid hijacking someones diary. It’s just a friendly reminder for everyone.

This should be in the Junk Drawer.

Are you giving the Mutumbo finger-wag to side conversations, or on-topic humor?

‘Cuz if it’s on-topic humor I may as well sell the computer now.

I want to be tucked in by Greg Oden and have him tell us stories about the old days.

Yeah

I think if I ever get a chance to write a junk drawer, I’ll try to explain the difference between “off topic” and “on topic.” Comparing the Jonas Brothers to the Blazers is on topic because it is about the Blazers. People seem to think a lot of “on topic” posts are “off topic.” Most people who write off topic posts don’t yet know the difference between “on topic” and “off topic.”

The problem with most of us Bedgers is...

we keep hearing about how awesome it is going to be this coming season – but we have to wait and wait and wait some more. This is like telling some college age stud that you have made arrangements for him to spend a weekend with a bunch of his favorite super models, and then telling him he has to wait and wait and wait some more.

We are dying out here!

Many long-time posters are being pretty quiet these weeks

So perhaps your observation and caution is apropos to their absence. It is hard to follow original comments to a post in some cases because any comment is lost 30-50 subposts below. Not complaining at all. The enthusiasm and energy here is amazing for the doldrums time of the year. I like to read most of the junk drawer every day. Lots to learn there.

Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

Since it's so easy to find new posts

By pressing the “C” or “Z” button, I have fewer problems than ever wading through off-topic or boring comments, or finding the new comments through threads even with HUNDREDS of comments to wade through.

Of course, I am biased, as I am one of those guilty of adding to off-topicy-stuff sometimes. SOMETIMES.

But Tom in Hawaii is right: Jscot just got his ass called out by Dave with this post. I sense some animosity there! I was wondering when the Dave/Jscot throwdown was gonna happen, and it might be just the thing to get this summer to move a lil’ faster.

Remember when you were a kid and the summers were awesome? Why doesn’t school and the NBA start again?!

No way. Someone hijacked Sophia’s identity!

since the topic was being off-topic wouldn’t that make off-topic on-topic in this thread?

Let's see...

I is less than 3. Is the answer to the equation a whole number? And is it positive? Because then I would almost have to equal 1 or 2. But if you include real numbers and negatives…wow. There could be a lot of answers to that.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
