Best rookie class in the history of the NBA?!?

OD-Dog and Rudy were drafted in 2007 and Jerryd 'Fear-less' and Saint Nicolas were drafted in 2008, but all 4 of them are going to be playing in their 1st year of NBA ball during the 2008-2009 season and will be considered rookies.  Now, I haven't done any research on the subject, but I don't think that I'm going out on a limb to say that this rookie class that the Zer's are going to unleash upon the rest of the league this year should end up being classified as the best rookie class by one NBA team EVER!

definetely has a chance to be a special class

Don’t expect anything from Batum, but Oden’s debut is as anticipated as any in recent memory and Rudy and Rex both are candidates to make a significant impact.

We’ll see.

I think Nic will contribute more in practice

with his defense and athletic ability. He should push his older teammates (funny to type that when neither is 25 years old). He is also the backup SF is either Travis or Martell is hurt. There is still an outside chance for Petko isn’t there? Eventually he may become the 5th member of this team. KP said he is waiting to return home from USA practices to review film before he makes that decision.

That link is also a nice story on Nic in the Daily Columbian today.

Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

I'm thinking Nic's biggest contribution

this year will be to titilate Blazerfan1.

I remember telling him how impressed I was with a player during summer league. In Avery's unique voice, he replied, "Marc, it's summer league." I

This just in from the Associated Press

PORTLAND – The Portland Trailblazers’ recently acquired forward Nicolas Batum has been cited by league officials for violating NBA Drug Policy Standards. Apparently, trainer Bobby Medina acquired “Bulker Upper,” a notorious steroid, for Batum. The league has not yet issued a statement.

IMO, there’s nothing creative or clever about Zers. It looks like the person saying or writing it was just too lazy to add the “Bla” part. More likely it’s because I’m an old forte.

Roy, Aldridge, Rodriguez

was a pretty good one—yeah, Sergio regressed a bit, but it was a great rookie class. To have another so soon after is amazing. If Oden and one of Rudy or Bayless lives up to the level that BRoy and LA did (which seems likely) then that’s a hell of a 3-year period for rooks here.

by BrailleTaser on Jul 24, 2008 6:34 PM PDT   0 recs

Could be the best two rookie classes in history

This year, Bayless-Oden-Rudy are all arguably top 5-10 prospects. Oden would be ahead of anybody in this year’s draft, Bayless was the concensus number 4 most talented player (slipped due to team needs and KP’s smokescreen), and everybody said Rudy would’ve been a top 5-10 pick. I doubt if one team’s ever had three of the top ten picks.

Roy-LA probably included the top two rookies of the year, as things played out. (Did they finish 1-2 in the voting?) That also may not have happened before.

Durant-Green were obviously both top five prospects, and Durant won ROY, but I would put Roy-LA solidly above those guys. There are probably other drafts when one team has had two top ten picks, but I can’t remember them.

The crazy thing is that they’re adding these three guys to a .500 team!

Bayless isn't the second coming of Jordan.
Jordan was the first coming of Bayless.

lol, "the swirsk"

When they played the Blazers last year, his broadcast partner called him out for it.

Swirsky now works for the Bulls- you can book at least one R.O.Y. vote for Derrick Rose.

The previous year, the Jazz play by play man cast the lone vote for Deron Williams, robbing CP3 of being unanimous R.O.Y.

That Jazz homer is last year's winner

of the Swirsky Award, given each season to the one ROY or MVP voter who votes for the local guy despite overwhelming evidence that someone else deserves to win. Here’s what the trophy looks like:

LA was somewhere around 5th in the voting

He didn’t play a lot in the 1st half and didn’t play in the Rook-Soph game, but came on with a great 2nd half and made the 6 man all rookie team.

Right now, I think most NBA observers would rank the class like this:
1) Roy
2) Gay
3) Aldridge
—-big drop off—-
Foye, Rondo, Farmar, Thomas, Brewer, Bargnani, Millsap, Gibson

Boomshakalaka
