D-League Question

So now that the Sonics are OKC Thunder do they still ship players into the same d-league team we do or do we have it all to ourselves now? I was just wondering because it seems to me that with all of the talent we have that we need to develop we could probally have our own d-league team that we just keep players in untill we need them, example imagine all our european players + those on our roster who are not getting minutes being able to learn the NBA game and develop in the d-league with their fellow teamates rather then being sprawled out all across europe and the back of the Blazer bench. we would ensure that those we want to develop quicker get the bulk of the minutes and its not like Paul allen can't afford his own D-League team, we could also send one of our assistant coaches down to work with them as well. but im not that familliar with the d-league so is this a pipe dream or could it be possible?

I think they're still with us.

It makes a lot less sense regionally now, but the NBA has proven that they don’t really care about things like that.

Except in the case of the NBA finals

In which geography gives the team with the worse record an enormous advantage through 5 games.

Because nothing trumps geography. Unless it does.

It's been shuffled

Before the team was moved to OKC, they announced their new D-league affiliate was the Tulsa 66ers. It made a little news since it seemed the NBA already was assuming the team moved. I can’t find the articles now though. The Idaho Stampede is now associated with Portland and Toronto.

Think Toronto will send anyone?

Kind of like going to Siberia from Toronto’s perspective (sorry Dave). A very long flight(s).

Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

Whoa!

The NBA did something that made sense!

Although, it was to keep in line with the big move that doesn’t make any sense… so I don’t know if that’s better or worse.

How does that make sense?

I’m too lazy to go look at a map, but isn’t Toronto even farther from Boise than OK City is?

Yeah...

It might be; I’m pretty lazy too. But my point was that Tulsa is much closer to OKC than Boise is.

Good, the first step towards the masterplan of our D-league team winning the East is done!

Also Toronto can supply better talent for training match-ups than OKC right now. And their organization isn’t owned and run by drunken lemurs.

Coach, I promise I wasn't running hard ...

sorry dude

I think it is a pipe dream, but that is only because the structure of the d league seems really poor right now. I hope they can make it more like baseball so it can be used to develop players rather than using colleges to do this.

Also, after having seen enough d league games, it is far from nba competition. It is more like the summer leagues. In case anyone was wondering about their favorite d leaguer, Rod Benson, he is terribly thin and has no post game or shot to speak of. If I was him I would take that euro money and run (and rebound.).

Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

The D-League is a joke

Living in Boise I got to watch some of the d-league games last year. I could get free tickets from my work so it gave me a little motivation to go. The Stampede basically has two defenses. One is man-to-man, which I think is designated by black. If the coach calls red-24, then number 24 of his team is supposed to double off on the ball. After seeing that, I lost what little respect for the level competition that I had.

Yah, but why...

...when you’re draftin’ Frosh College & 18 yr. old Euro Playahs for Money?

The D league needs to change, for the better. MLB seems to have a better system.

Thunder?

Really? I hadn’t heard that yet. Sounds like a WNBA team.
“Thundarr” as in “The Barbarian” would have been a lot better, but what do I know.

Lewis & Clark got nothing on these boys next year.

Apparently Boris Diaw tried to deflect a pass and poked him in the right eye, partially tearing his iris and pupil (ouch, and the iris can't heal itself completely). Amare said afterwards he felt strong pain and thought for a few minutes he could turn blind on the eye, which initial tests were able to exclude (lens and retina were not damaged). Yet he will miss at least the next two weeks of pre-season to avoid raising his blood pressure. Afterwards he might need to wear protective gear to avoid future injuries.
