Junk Drawer - July 22, 2008

I noticed that there was no junk drawer yet, so I'm jumping on the opportunity to have a top five fanpost for a day.  I'm struggling to make it to 75 words, so I hope nobody posts a junk drawer while I'm typing.  I finally watched that ESPYs thing with Greg Oden.  I did not think it was funny.  Nothing against him, he was good.  I just didn't think the content was all that funny.  I didn't even crack a smile.  Maybe it's me.  Maybe annthefan is right, and I really am a sobersides.  In brighter news, it is now exactly one week until my 21st birthday.

I thought it was funny because of Greg's rose colored, Elton John glasses and the fact that he sang.

He can carry a tune, by the way. Other than that it wasn’t funny. Maybe I just don’t get the appeal of Justin Timberlake. I thought most of the clips with Greg seemed a little condescending. Maybe I’m too sensitive.

Nah, he's a pretty smart and socially apt guy,

You mean the dummies saying he looked old?

Or actually during the show… I haven’t watched it yet, and probably won’t.

Oden handles the same ol’ same ol’ questions like a true vet. He does an amazing job dealing with people and staying calm and funny and personable, especially as a 20 year old riding as much hype as anybody has had (save for Lebron perhaps) and dealing with the questions about an injury, his face, and everything that comes with it.

Oden is awesome, there’s no way around it. He’s gonna be the most popular player in the NBA, and maybe even the world because of his friendly personality and big game.

He’s already dealt with the fact that his face simply has extra skin on it, and has the sense of humor to make jokes about it. While he’s young, people will ask dumb questions about it, but he handles it perfectly.

If that was kinda what you’re concerned about Ann, don’t worry. Greg seems like he’s the perfect person to have been given that awesome face and body, and can handle the questions and jokes.

Actually, it didn't have anything to do with the aged face schitck.

It was the “give me a G Greg” stuff and the sort of disparaging interchange with the blond ESPN interviewer. I dunno, I’m probably being overly sensitive. I’ll have to force myself to watch again to re-evaluate. Hmm. Maybe not. I’ll just go with my initial response and live with it if I’m mistaken.

The Piano thing was almost insignificant

I guess since he’s been in the NBA a year and has never played a minute kind of makes him less significant. I guess everything was just kind of not worth watching again.

Wow exciting

And, I’ve never been a big fan of plays/musical like the skit he put on, but I thought it was well done. Not necessarily funny, just well done. It’s not my brand of humor. I think it’s an acquired taste, if not something that’s more of a white people thing. I never got into theatre and I’m someone that’s appreciative of the rest of the arts.

I stayed at home and knitted, and so should you.

And after knitting I went to Tijuana and Las Vegas. It was fun. I hope to build a vacation home right in the heart of downtown Tijuana, because it was a really nice city (like most border towns are). Clean, smelled nice, I couldn’t imagine a nicer place to spend my winters.

PA Establishes ZoneD Darfur Development - OT

Explaining to press that PA plans to expand his professional basketball empire, Pa’ PA, Marco Gollum, spokesman for Vulgate Enterprises, says he is excited by the opportunity to work in Nilotic Africa, starting next winter.

ZoneD is the brainchild of Pierre Aramis, the gazzillionaire Latin businessman who owns five proBB teams on four continents. Through Gollum, PA stated his plans to expand ZoneD to the Dinaric Alps next year. Vulgate has already acquired real estate in Croatia and Serbia.

Using an Uber Peace Corps model, ZoneD plans to construct 16 community centers in towns alongside the upper Nile. Each center will be a hub to 4 basketball facilities, as well as having child care, computer labs, libraries, nutrition centers, and world class telecommunications networks. Basketball development will be subsidized by ZoneD, and potential professional players wll be signed to 20-year contracts. Each of the sixteen communities will have multiple age-and-talent level teams which will compete for financial reward dedicated to building regional infrastructure, including solar power stations.

When asked, Gollum said he couldn’t confirm the rumor that rival gazillionnaire Cubano Motility has acquired land and is hiring planners to set up a similar development company in the West Indies.

Regarding Oden, he obviously was pretty proud of what he did at the Espys, so I won’t knock him for it. He truly is blossoming into a star personality a’la Shaq, and if he gets some success on the court to match he will be a marketing juggernaut.

A half-dozen ladies were swimming (not really), playing volleyball (sort of), and spanking each other (literally) in the pool. “I’d jump in myself, but there’s too many camera phones,” explains Greg Oden, who might not be old enough to drink, but “I’m definitely old enough to talk to people wearing bunny ears with a Red Bull in my hand. Definitely.”

Max Money players

Why posting in Lance’s Fanpost about L. Deng, I started to think about who on the Blazers is worth Max Money, and if any of the players on the team currently would end up in a similar situation as Deng, (turning down a large deal because they feel they are a max money player.)

To me, there are currently no Max Money players on the Blazers. However, there are a few players who if they reach their potential, will command the max. These players are ofcourse ROY, LMA, and GO. I don’t believe however that all 3 will end up as Max Money players, this is because I don’t believe they will all get enough touches on offense to reach their max potential. Consider this, If GO turns into the next coming of Shaq/Russell/etc.., he will get 15+ shots per game. If ROY becomes the next Wade/Kobe/etc…, he will get 18+ shots per game. And if LMA becomes the next KG/Wallace/etc… he will get 15+ shots per game. Just as I don’t believe all 3 can become multi-time all-stars on the same team, I don’t think they can all reach their full production potential on the same team.

I bolded the word production because I do believe they can all reach their full talent potential on the same team, but as we saw with Boston this year, their production will suffer compared to if they were on their own team.

Because of all of these factors, I believe ROY and GO will become max money players, however LMA will not, he will obviously get paid, but I don’t believe he will produce enough on this team to get max money. It will be interesting to see if KP and PA give him the money based on talent vs based on production.

I don't think so

LMA/Roy/Oden probably won’t mind taking a paycut for the benefit of the team. Making around 15mil or 17.5mil, instead of 20, something like that. Duncan, Ginobli, and Parker all did the same thing. It wouldn’t be ridiculous to think that our guys would follow the same model. We’ll see when the time comes though, they won’t be able to get a real max deal (20mil) until after their first major (non rookie) contract expires.

That might be the case

But I doubt that’ll be the case for the first deal after their rookie deals are up.

Their second deal, where the salary ceiling is much higher, will be the tough one to swallow and might have them take a pay cut to keep the band together.

HOWEVER, if we are winning and have won a title (very likely by the time their 2nd deals are up, even if they go the Lebron route and only take a 3 year deal) or are soooooo daaaaaaamn clooooooose, Paul Allen will do what he has done before and that’s pay out the nose for a chance to win a championship.

Our Big Three seem like good guys who would take a paycut (as long as it isn’t a crazy one) to keep a championship team together. However, that problem is 6, 7 years away at least and we’ll have a really good idea what team we got by then.

I think it’ll be worth it, and it ain’t my money. They’ll all still be young, strong, entering their prime of their prime.

Ok So I fundamentally disagree with your argument

and this is because I do not feel as if the offensive production is what will define whether or not each of said players is a max player. I think KP will give them max contracts because

1. they will demand it
2. if we dont supply they will get it elsewhere
3. they have been specified as the big three around which the team is constructed

The culture of the team is essentially defined by GO/LA/Roy as well. There contributions to the team are more almost unquantifiable b/c many of their best traits cant really be noted in a stat column.

Lastly, Im tired of LaMarcus not getting enought credit on this board. He averaged 17 ppg and i think 8 rebounds .. that in his sophomore year against the toughest western conference ever. He held his own against several vets . He also carried this team offensively when Roy was down and out. His worth to me is not less than that of GO and Roy but equal and as Dheepen has pointed out his game compliments that of GO perfectly… it’s sickening how deadly those two will be together.

show me a team with 3 players making max money

I don’t think there is one, but if you can find one I will humbly stand corrected.

LMA gets TONS of credit on this board- the vast majority of BE thought I was nuts for being willing to trade him for the #1 pick (i.e. Rose). 17 and 8 just isn’t all that rare. LMA is going to keep improving and will be a terrific player, but he’s not going to be one of the league’s top 10 players.

LMA is our third guy. If he demands max money (which I doubt he will), KP will have to grudgingly let him go. The Blazers would still be in good shape, with tons of capspace to lure another guy to play with Roy and Oden. To be clear, I don’t want or expect this to happen.

by jksnake99 on Jul 22, 2008 11:28 AM PDT up reply actions

If we can afford it (which we can)

Why would he let him go?

Max money on the first contract is what, 15, 16 million a year?

Big men who aren’t THAT good get 12 million a year, as we saw from Bogut. LMA is better than Bogut.

You show me a team that can’t afford 3 max players, and I’ll show you a team not owned by Paul Allen. We can totally afford it, have players worth it, and paying them the same will nip in the bud any jealousy issues.

IF LaMarcus doesn’t improve, yeah, he won’t be worth max but he’ll get Bogut money from someone if we don’t give it to him. He’s a very skilled, young, athletic big man. You know you pay big men more than other positions, and the going rate isn’t far from what the max deal is for that first contract after the rookie deal is up.

I just wonder how we’ll be able to pay Web, Rex, Rudy, any free agents, etc. if we go max on all of our big 3. Paying our young guys is going to be an issue down the road. Since I don’t know much about the inner workings of the cap, I’ll stop here.

Equally ignorant about all the cap rules, but...

PA has thrown a lot of money around in the past on teams with perhaps less potential. Didn’t Portland have the highest payroll for a couple years, somewhere around the Detlef Schrempf (Shremp? Schfremp? Ssvrmpff?) era?

If these guys produce, and if they demand it, I think PA will pay them. If ever Portland has had a team that would be profitable in a pure business sense (discard billionaire basketball hobbiest strategy) this is it. And if PA is not running a deficit, why would he balk at paying the guys that have returned the team to glory?

(Just making up some numbers here) Is a $65 million payroll profitable, but a $85 million payroll isn’t? Or is PA running a $20 million deficit already and won’t go to $40?

by lukeyhere on Jul 22, 2008 11:49 AM PDT up reply actions

As long as the Big 3 are locked up...

We’ll have to approach those players with fair market value salaries, unless they wanna stay on a championship level team and get paid just a little bit less. I don’t expect a Joe Johnson situation to happen, because if, say, Martell or Bayless become that good, we’d likely pay it (provided they fit with the team and all that, of course).

As you probably know, one of the reasons this upcoming cap space is so enticing is because it will be the last time we have cap space for the entirety of Roy/LMA/Oden’s career as a Blazer. The Luxury Tax will be unavoidable, and that might be death for other small markets it won’t be as big of a problem for Paul Allen as long as the team is good.

So, let’s say the Big 3 are worth ~15 million, the max after the rookie deal. Luxury tax land is north of 70 million right now. After the big 3, you got 25+ to play with. If any of Trout, Rudy, Bayless, Martell are worth big money, you got room to pay them, or room to pay the better players out of those good players and afford to let someone who wants a bigger role on another team go.

Now, I tend to ignore the “penalties” for going over the luxury tax because Paul Allen can easily afford it and there is no penalty beyond the dollar for dollar tax. He’ll just have to build one less personal privately funded space ship each year to afford the tax.

How we’ll pay for our non-Big 3 players is just by owning their Bird rights, and thus can match or be ‘allowed’ to go over the cap and all that. Since they project to be good, they’ll have to be paid Fair Market Value (plus perhaps a lil’ extra to make up for the fact their stats will suffer for being on a good team) to keep them out of other team’s hands.

All of this means we’re just over the cap like we’ve always been as long as Paul Allen has been the owner. It’s actually kinda easier to sign the type of free agent we’ll be looking for (role players) if you’re over the cap, since you’ll have access to the mid-level exception. Teams under the cap can’t use that.

So, we’ll be allowed to pay our good players whatever we want, often bidding against ourselves for the first several years because they’ll be restricted, and can get role players using the MLE and bi-annual exception, and have a owner who can afford it easier than any other owner in SPORTS.

The Blazers will never make that much money, but that isn’t their purpose anyways.

As long as Paul Allen is writing the checks, keeping the good players on the roster will be easy, provided they don’t wanna jump ship to lead their own team (perhaps Martell or Bayless will wanna be a top dogg somewhere).

How far you can venture into luxury tax land

is limited only by the maximum contract values of the players on your team. Since the max contract for most non-rookies is ~16ish million, and there are 15 players on the team, the maximum payroll the CBA allows is about $250 million.

by tingeyga on Jul 22, 2008 11:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Shorter version:

As you probably know, it’s not a hard salary cap we’re working with. We can pay players we own the Bird rights to as much as we want, within the ‘max deal or less’ restrictions agreed upon by the CBA.

So as long as Paul Allen is a billionaire and we have players who want to win, we can easily sign all of our good players.

Other small markets don’t have this freedom because they are owned by millionaires, not billionaires, and thus are huge financial sinkholes that those owners can’t afford. Even a big market like the Lakers are affected by this, as their owner is only worth a few hundred million. He can’t afford 3 max players, but small market Portland can.

So, our situation is a lil’ different, and we are allowed to pay our players we want to keep as much as we want (basically).

I am not a cap expert either.

Yes it was. He bought it from Ziff-Davis, messed around with the programming, then sold/merged it with G4 (Comcast) who shut down most activities and converted the remains to a pretty lame gaming channel. I had a few friends there who went through some hard times, though most are fine today doing their own things – and a few will be millionaires soon, should have joined them :-(

I don’t say he isn’t committed long term to the Blazers. He probably has much more fun with that “venture” and did a great job there. I just wanted to point out that “he has the money” and “he likes it” isn’t a sufficient argument.

And they did that because the players are good people who care about winning, and have an owner who isn’t that rich—definitely not as rich as Paul Allen.

I hope our Big 3 are good people like that as well, but if not, well, our owner is different.

I don’t think the situation is that different really; the biggest difference is that they only gotta pay 1 big man while we’ll have to pay 2, which is always expensive, and they locked up 2 out of the 3 before they were superstar-esque.

And, Duncan agreed to less so the owner would be willing to make other moves.

On top of that it was his 2nd year in the league. There’s no reason to think he won’t be a top 10 player in the league.

LMA has the potential to be a top 15-20 player in the league, but its far from guaranteed… as of right now he’s 10th or 12th-ish at his own position. Its a big jump from there to top 15 overall. Not saying its impossible for him to make that leap, just that it is a big leap and many around here appear to think its a foregone conclusion that he will make it.

1. Duncan
2. Tie, Amare, KG
4. Dirk
5. Chris Bosh
6. Carlos Boozer
7. Elton Brand
8. Gasol
9. LMA
10. Al Jefferson

Gasol and LMA aren’t too far off already (LMA dominated him each time we played LA) Duncan, Dirk, and Garnett are going to decline soon. Brand and Boozer are good players but will always be limited by their lack of size. By next year or the year after, be might be as good or better than these two players. In his prime he will be competition with Bosh, Amare, and possibly Horford (if Atlanta’s FO isn’t retarded and keeps him at center) or Beasley (looking kind of iffy) as best power forward. Now there will probably be some good power forward prospects in the future, but he’ll definitely be a high caliber player.

David West is better than LMA

Josh Smith and Shawn Marion play PF some of the time and are on his level also. Sheed is in the conversation as is Antawn Jamison and Emeka Okafor. There’s also young dudes who did amazingly well in less PT (none of which are as good as LMA, IMO, but worth mentioning): Carl Landry (defensive monster), Leon Powe, David Lee, Amir Johnson, Jason Maxiell, etc. As of right now, LMA is a little above average for a starting PF.

My list would be:
1. Duncan
2. KG
3. Amare (nowhere near as good on D as the top 2)
4. Dirk
5. Chris Bosh
6. Carlos Boozer
7. David West
8. Elton Brand
9. Gasol
10. Jamison
11. Sheed (plays Center mostly now)
12. LMA

I still agree with your main point- he’ll be a high caliber.

Sure he plays PF on the Wizards, but LMA and most true 4s would destroy him on offense. He’s more in the mold of Shawn Marion 3. I don’t think I would put Jamison over LMA as a power forward.

Amare is so good on offense, and if TP can convince him to play defense, he will be better than KG. He’s not Duncan but because he will never be that leader on the court, but he is an athletic freak.

LMA is ahead of where Sheed was, by far, and I think they play similar games. Sheed wasn’t a great defender until his Blazer days, and I think LMA is a good defender already—just too skinny.

Perhaps if LMA becomes a guy who can drive with the ball like Bosh, that’d be nice, but I forever have seen and shall see a new Sheed with a GREAT head on his shoulders.

Teams don't have 3 players making max money

partially because nobody has 3 players with skills/production that warrant that level of contract, but also because 3 max contracts puts you really close to the salary cap limit and thus by the time that you fill out your starting lineup and the bench you will be way into luxury tax land, and teams try to avoid that like the plague

by tingeyga on Jul 22, 2008 12:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Boston has 3 making max money

KG = $24,750,000
Ray Ray = $17,388,430
Paul = $18,077,904

Didn’t come out too badly for them.

(Max money is over 30% of the salary cap for a 7 year veteran)

Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

by lee3022 on Jul 22, 2008 8:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes

max money is 30% of the salary cap for 7 year vets, but the maximum raises allowed often out paces the raise of the cap. In other words, if a player signed for say 28% of the cap with a yearly 10% they are soon going to be earning more than 30% of the cap, which technically makes them a max player even though they didn’t get the biggest contract that the CBA allows. If I recall correctly this applies to all 3 of the Boston players (even KG, he took a little less money to resign with Minny back in the Cassell/Spree days and he pre-max contract era deal allowed him to take a pay cut and still pull in $20 mill/year)

LaMarcus

Not to mention he carried nearly 100% of the post production for this team’s starting unit. He was facing double teams nearly every night in the post after the midway point.

I’m scared that if we don’t value LMA properly that we might lose him. He’ll become a dominant post player. I’m worried that if we don’t give him credit in the realm of Roy and Oden that he might see himself elsewhere as a clear number 1 option.

3 max players

is too much. They would be making more than Paul Ray Ray and the Big Angry
They need to get reasonable contracts in order to make it work.

Easy for you to say!

A team in a small market winning championships must also be financially viable. The personal wealth of Mr. Allen is a wonderful backstop but the team still has to make sense. If you want another illustration of a team with mega-money for salaries just look at NY. Wow – we have been there and it is part of KP’s genius that we have dropped down to such a powerful position next year.

The truly wealthy keep score in life by their wealth. Perhaps the most remarkable billionaires are Gates and Buffett pooling their immense wealth to improve health care around the world. Paul Allen does not seem to be as inclined to either add to his wealth or to give it away yet and he does seem to truly enjoy the team now but if it also makes him a return on his investment it adds to his satisfaction. I don’t begrudge him that as he is making that an add-on to his primary objective of winning.

Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

Like Sophia sez

If we don’t give ‘em the max, SOMEONE will (unless they don’t all improve like we believe they will).

One good way to avoid the Bulls problem of different key players earning different amounts and the jealousy that arises from that is to pay the Big Three the same, which is easy to do with the max salary structure of today. They’re all the same age, can all be paid the same amount, and should EARN that amount.

Lotsa’ teams have had 3 players average over 20 points a game; the Wizards do it now with Arenas/Jamison/Caron. There will be enough shots to go around when they are playing 30+ minutes a night, especially if we speed up the pace a bit.

Besides, how much they score won’t determine how they get paid. It’s if we are winning and if they still fit together.

After the Big 3, it becomes fair market value time, plus prolly a lil’ extra.

I’m not concerned with what everyone gets paid, because we can afford it AND it appears we got the players worth big money finally.

Homeless guys were drinking a twelve pack of beer right outside my apartment. The guys upstairs told them it was cool for them to hang out and sleep there. I sat with them and mooched as many beers off them as I could. I drank three and stayed until they ran out of beer, then I told them I had to go. It just felt good to take something back from the homeless.

He started most of the time last season, but Foye was hurt… I wonder how that’s gonna work. It’ll be awesome for us when we play them if they start Bassy at PG, Foye at SG, Brewer at SF, Love at PF, and Jefferson at C… I think Brewer will be the tallest player on the floor. Smallest team ever!

They got some talented scorers and good potential, but they seem so mismatched. Love and Jefferson will be abysmal on defense, I simply cannot wait to have Oden and LMA play them.

Sergio might not play enough.

I think Martell is actually the most likely candidate. If he doesn’t break out, look out. He’ll be in every BlazersEdge CP3 trade proposal by Thanksgiving.

Select Team Scrimmage report
—The senior team and the select squad played four five-minute scrimmages. The senior team won all four. In the first and fourth games, Coach K’s crew won handily, but P.J. Carlesimo’s young pups put a scare into them in the second and third games. The second match was decided by a LeBron James game-winning pull-up jumper on Jerryd Bayless with 2.0 seconds left and in the third game Kobe Bryant got hot in the last couple minutes to get the win after the Select Team jumped out to a big early lead.

—During the first scrimmage, the Select Team’s first five out on the court were O.J. Mayo, Luther Head, Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Al Horford.

—No. 1 overall pick Derrick Rose scored on several drives to the hoop, but also struggled with turning the ball over.

5 minute scrimmages

My guess is they had a different group of 5 playing each of the 4 games. Notice that the 1st team was beaten “handily” while the 2nd and 3rd games putting a scare into the Team USA.

At least we know the team Bayless was on didn’t get blown out.

PJ was coaching the Select team

It may explain why Jeff Green started, the absolute most over rated prospect in the NBA. He had a terrible rookie year that everyone seems to deny.

Any rookie on a team

with durant would probably suffer a bit. Not knocking on Durant but, he’s pretty demanding of the ball, isn’t he? They were a young team and everything is set up to go through him. Not defending Green though, I don’t really care about him one way or the other.

Uhm, the US lost against Greece the last time

Their guards are huge! Papaloukas is like 6’7 220 pounds. Spain isn’t exactly small across the court either (Rudy, Navarro, ...). And both are in one group with the US.

I like the fact that

Horford had a decent rookie season as he got owned by Oden in the NCAA title game.

Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

by jonestr on Jul 22, 2008 10:11 PM PDT up reply actions

I was ten rows up

Oden absolutely owned not only Hortford, but also Brewer and Noah. They had nothing going inside. It was a dominant game. Florida shot 65% from three, OSU shot LESS THAN 10% (!), and we (OSU) were still somehow right there in the game.

Bayless isn't the second coming of Jordan.
Jordan was the first coming of Bayless.

At least his production in 07/08 was much better according to 82games

http://www.82games.com/COM1S11.HTM

Vs. good teams LMA 18.1 points vs. 9.9 for Horford and Green.
Vs. average teams 17 vs. 11.9 (Green) and 10 (Horford)
Vs. bad teams 18 vs. 9.6 (Green) and 10.5 (Horford)
In rebounding Horford was a little better and Green worse again. Don’t want to write that stat down now.
Funny that bad teams don’t really seem to help your scoring.

And I think that Horford will be really good, too.

Warriors acquire PG Williams from New Jersey

In exchange for a future conditional first round pick (no word yet on the conditions).

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3500699

Not a bad move for Golden State, but probably not something that should make us tremble. The story also states that they expect Monta Ellis to run the point, who afaik hasn’t re-signed yet and isn’t exactly a 1. But probably they want to have Monta, Maggette and Jackson on the field at the same time at 1, 2, 3. Also their bench is pretty thin after Azubuike, Pietrus, O’Brient and Barnes left.

Coach, I promise I wasn't running hard ...

by Norsktroll on Jul 22, 2008 5:28 PM PDT reply actions

Update

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that “if the Warriors make the playoffs in 2011, the Nets would get that non-lottery pick. If not, New Jersey would get the pick in 2012 (so long as it’s not between pick Nos. 1-11) or in 2013 (protected against picks 1-10). If the pick still hasn’t been used by then, New Jersey gets second-round picks in 2013 and 2015.” Phew, that is complicated.

He’s kind of good as well.(Actually Kidd trade was going the other way so Cuban also traded Kidd).

I have been thinkin'

As it stands now we have four (5 with Sergio, 6 if you count Pete) guards on this team with various skill sets but who can all handle the rock pretty well.

We have:
Blake-Shooter/Distributer/ a little D
Bayless- Driver/Scorer/ a little more D (against the 1)
Fernandez-Slasher/Shooter/Alley-Ooper (both set up and finisher)-verrry little D
Roy-Driver/Scorer/Distributer Good Versitle D

I look at these guards and their skills and the only way it makes sense to me is:

Roy/Blake at the 1
Bayless/Fernandez at the 2 (this could probably be swapped around)

Looking at the skills right now ….
1. Roy is the best Point on the team (Blake 2nd) and teaming him up with a scorer in the back court could make a lot of sense and would allow the starting rook to have a vet presence on the court with him.
2. Blake would also be a steadying influence on the 2nd unit as well asgiving the other rook vet presence.

More and More I think this is how it will go

Mortimer: "It’ll be so nice I’ll need microfracture—ON MY WEINER."

by 92wastheyear on Jul 22, 2008 7:54 PM PDT reply actions

I think you are right,

Curiously enough, Bayless is adamant about being a point guard in the right scenario, and Rudy is said to be capable of playing the position also (as well as the 3).I think as long as you have either Roy or Blake in, who cares who the other one is? This is going to be awesome….But this is also going to be the longest Augustr and September of my life, period. Funny thing is, I think I said that last year.

It could be permalinked with the “Site Conversation Rules.”

Also, we need to unrec the Court Rivals thread in the top five (third BE team being formed) and get the new one (fourth BE team created) up into the recommended fanposts.
