Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Hornets
Finally the chance is here to take on one of the true titans of the Western Conference! I am so looking forward to testing ourselves against Chris Paul and...what? What do you mean "not here"? Well at least there's David West then. He's pretty accomplis...huh? No way! I suppose next you're going to tell me that Peja Stojakovic didn't...YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING. Then who? Hilton Armstrong?!? Who the HECK is Hilton Armstrong??? Well geez, then Brandon and Greg and the boys better win today. That's all I've got to say.
You can register your own thoughts here in the comment section before, during, and after the game. Enjoy the massacre!
I wonder if we can get an interview with Oden...

Or just read this
There is a chance that Jerryd Bayless’ 36-point special against Phoenix on Saturday will be his final shining moment at summer league. The Portland rookie, who was added to the select team today, attended the noon practice, but did not participate because of pain in his hand. According to a summer league official, he had an MRI and the results were negative.

Awesome rebound by Batum
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
He could be in the All-Beard All-Stars
No wait, his position is taken by the Gasols and Drew Gooden.
Coach, I promise I wasn't running hard ...
Wowww
Batum has finally gotten some confidence and made some great moves in the last 5 minutes. Now we see what KP and his scouts are so excited about.
Another great assist too!
standing ovation for hill
as he exits the game

OK guys...
forget I asked, huh?
"I love this game!" -Moonbeam, from 'Rollerball' right before he was knocked into a permanent coma
We're not picking on you
Literally people are chanting for Hill. Last night the crowd decided to adopt a stiff and he was the one.
I haven't gotten to see too much...
you know how my schedule goes… and the announcers and Demopolous were really talking him up.
That’s why I asked.
"I love this game!" -Moonbeam, from 'Rollerball' right before he was knocked into a permanent coma
Not me either
I just thought the announcers were funny they way they phrased Hill’s game:(at) defensive end
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
I just figured they were seeing something in person...
that I wasn’t seeing on TV.
"I love this game!" -Moonbeam, from 'Rollerball' right before he was knocked into a permanent coma
Hill is playing defensive end?
The Redskins will be calling
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Little things
Petteri checked the clock before that ball was inbounded. He knew precisely how much time was left and what he needed to do to get a shot off.
What about Pinnock? What does he look like from your perspective?
"Besides, AnntheFan will be here any minute to #25 you." T Darkstar
He's been scoring this last game
He’s a summer league vet who knows what he’s doing. He will probably get picked up overseas somewhere. If you guys want players besides the Big Three who might have a chance of playing well in a reasonably good leage someday think Maric, Davis, and Finley.
Did KP just say he played for the Celtics for a year?
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
KP ducking the trading of the pick
before the fact
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Petko flies!
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Yeah...
Dave and Ben just missed the Hill highlight reel.
"I love this game!" -Moonbeam, from 'Rollerball' right before he was knocked into a permanent coma
Maybe KP was being kind
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
He won't be at DQ, he'll play basketball somewhere...
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
Besides which...
I see him as more of a Sizzler guy.
"I love this game!" -Moonbeam, from 'Rollerball' right before he was knocked into a permanent coma
He is a L*ker guy
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Julian Wright is showing it a bit
But will he give the effort
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Pinnock has 25
Petko 10

Is that because Petteri is sticking to PG duties?
"Besides, AnntheFan will be here any minute to #25 you." T Darkstar
Wait...how many newspapers are giving live reports of Bayless' hand?
That’s what I thought.
Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.
hands are now clasped
doesn’t appear to be in any noticeable pain

KP seemed to back off
the refrain we have been hearing for 3 years that we need a veteran to take this team to the very top. He is recognizing we have the leaders in Brandon, Greg and LMA.
He went beyond that, he pretty much downplayed the perceived necessity for a vet...
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
I don't think he backed off so much...
as he didn’t commit himself one way or the other.
"I love this game!" -Moonbeam, from 'Rollerball' right before he was knocked into a permanent coma
that was my feeling.
"I love this game!" -Moonbeam, from 'Rollerball' right before he was knocked into a permanent coma
That's not how I heard it: "We're seeing our players grow up before our eyes -- MAYBE it will take a vet"
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
Exactly...
maybe it will, maybe it won’t. Darned if I’m telling you guys aour strategy.
"I love this game!" -Moonbeam, from 'Rollerball' right before he was knocked into a permanent coma
I'm agreeing with you Ken
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
It's so silly
When they were talking about Vince Carter, I just started laughing. Yeah we want an old guy when our window doesn’t even open for at least a year.
Last game, score really mattered; tonight, GAME doesn't matter.
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
Hill has hung in there
against two guys with NBA experience in Wright and Armstrong both very tall and very active.
Not sure if he got an A on the Robinson over the shoulder shot or not. Maybe.
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
Monty has now figured out
this Sumer League coaching thing. The Blazers by 13.
Hill blocked that—no foul ref!
Garbage points for Batum because NOH didn't concede.
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
Last night the Suns and Warriors Blogs
they had under 100 posts for the game thread. We blow them away in the first 10 minutes
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Pinnock with 30
Who needs Bayless?
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Don't look now
but Hill just gave away his jersey to the crowd. He did it with a smile on his face too. Funny stuff.
NBA TV missed it?
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Gradin' 'em...
................... why not?
Petko …............ C+
Batman ….............. D+
Honorable mention: Pinnock, Hill
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
Haluska
Wasn’t he included in the Bonzi Wells trade last season? Also a nice way to get back your players. We should have invited Taurean Green to our Summer League team.
Coach, I promise I wasn't running hard ...
He still can't shoot
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Monty got these guys to go all out
and deserves (with the other coaches) a hand as well

I know what the Blazers are secretly planning
They’re going to surgically trim several inches off of Batum’s arms and graft the tissue onto Bayless.
[This space temporarily left blank.]

B'oh
I was gonna say that joke.
Batum has a 7’4” wingspan, take 4 inches off and give it to Bayless and Bayless will be lankiest boy around and Batum will still have the lank that puts money in the bank.
LANKINESS WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Mortimer
PS: I missed this entire game pretty much, how worthwhile is it to watch? I’m gonna watch it regardless probably, but are there good interviews with KP, Petteri doin’ good, stuff like that?
Or is it everyone overrating Hill because he is white and has a goofy beard?
I agree with Timbo he looks like he could play SOMEWHERE non-NBAish, but he’s soooo slow and not all that big to get away with being a slow non-athletic big who fouls more than he blocks (though he can block shots). How tall is he?
Announcers said "6'11"-7'0"" but you'd do better with the Timbo Subjective Guide to NBA Heights...
....................... Looks like he’s 6’9”, maybe 6’10”...
