I'm a Sonics fan looking to get converted.

Today... well, let's see if I can do this without violating one of your policies about no profanity or masked profanity.

Today is awful. The NBA franchise that called Seattle home for 41 years has been allowed to move to Oklahoma City in a "settlement" between the city and the NBA. Fans will not be settled. I am not settled. The green and gold is put on a shelf and may never see the light of day again.

So I'm asking you, a community filled with passionate fans, to legitimately convert this lifelong Seattle Supersonics fan over to Blazer-Mania. Who should I love? How much should I love them? Who's getting passed over as far as the Hall of Fame? Are you excited to have a line-up of Roy, Bayless, Oden, Fernandez, and Aldridge? (If my names are wrong I apologize...)

I never thought I'd say this with conviction, but let's go. Blazers.

I've been watching B-Roy since high school when he destroyed my team at state

And I’ve met coach Mac two times, very gracious guy.

I’d say more but I’m still in a state of shock.

But when you are ready we will be here to welcome you. I would recomend keeping an eye on Rudy Fernandez…he just signed yesterday (he could be your 1st Blazer….all yours).

You have our deepest condolences over the Sonics.

I can certainly understand why you would want to cuss a blue streak that would make longshoremen blush in shame. Us fans in Portland (Or in my case, I’m no longer in Portland, but oh well.) really wanted the Sonics to stay. We enjoyed the rivalry, and look forward to another team going to Seattle as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we welcome you aboard, and it’s a good time to be a Blazers fan. There’s a lot of hope for the future in Portland, and the Rest of the league, from what I read, is really worried about us. I don’t have my hopes that high for next season. I think we win 45, and just squeak into the playoffs, but ‘09/’10 should be good and scary for teams not from Portland.

Obviously Roy

Him going to UW and being from Seattle makes him the obvious pick. Really the question is who shouldn’t you love?

The answer? Raef LaFrentz. Why? Expiring contract, you’ll be heartbroken when he leaves you like your former love the Sonics. Everyone else though is very lovable.

by Replacement Level Poster on Jul 2, 2008 6:17 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Oh my new found friend that is easy!

So we could ship out Theo Ratliff and Sebastian Telfair and end up with Raef and Brandon Roy.

by Replacement Level Poster on Jul 2, 2008 6:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Someone locked him up big time

A long, long time ago.

I give us a break on having him on our roster, because we didn’t sign him, and we ate his deal so we could get Roy.

He had been traded a few times since getting his mega-deal, and I’m not sure why those people thought it was a good trade at the time. He wasn’t a bad player at all, but not necessarily a great one of course, and injuries have made him a shadow of his former self. He’s a good guy and we don’t mind how much he gets paid because of the cap room we got coming up NEXT off-season, and it enabled us to steal our beloved Roy away from the rest of the league.

I’m extremely sorry about what has happened with the Sonics, and I don’t know what I would do in your situation. We Blazer fans welcome one and all, and I hope you enjoy yourself as a Blazer fan, should you wish to root for ‘em. I’m a horrific homer, but I think it’s a good time to jump on board, maybe the best time—no one will say you’re just doing it because of Oden right now, and its right before we’re gonna be really, really good. You’ll enjoy having an awesome team, and keep your street cred!

Best of both worlds.

In your opinion, who should I be maddest at for the Seattle situation? I know Stern was no help whatsoever, but I can’t help but direct most of my anger at Howard Schultz. Even I, MORTIMER, knew Clay Bennett wanted to move the team to OKC, and I didn’t even follow the Seattle situation closely then. It’s all he had been trying to do for years. Because Schultz had to have known what Bennett was up to, the fact he sold the team to him is disgusting… as was his bid to save face recently, trying to sue and all.

The Seattle situation makes all of us pretty angry, and I’m sure we all welcome you as fellow Blazer fan. I am very sorry for your loss, and in some ways it could be worse than losing a family member. You KNOW they’ll die SOMEDAY, but your team is supposed to be forever!

It’ll be easy to root for the Blazers, and I hope ya do.

I actually don’t drink coffee, but The Fiancee does and she joined in by boycotting Starbucks for me.

For all of Bennett’s evilness and Stern’s doucheyness, Schultz is the true bad guy to me. If he didn’t sell out the team, LITERALLY, all of this woulda’ never happened. There were local buyers!

Ooooooh it burns my britches. Like 92wastheyear says, I’m glad you’re gonna be a Blazer fan, but I wish you could still be a Seattle Supersonic fan. I will boo the OKC team for forever and a day.

In hindsight, it worked out much better for Nate to relocate to PDX 3 years ago…imagine if he was still the “Sonics” coach today, he’d have a huge decision to make. Somehow, I doubt he’d move with the team to OKC.

I think we should have a contingency plan

There’s a chance that Shultz wins his suit, and there’s now the chance that a new team will turn up someday with the green and gold. You new Puget Sound Blazer Fans have the right to renounce your Blazer fandom when/if that happens. So, PSBF, have fun and we love having you here, but I think we are all hoping that you have the Sonics back soon, and we will be happy for you when you get to root against us (if that makes sense!).

by Bedhead on Jul 3, 2008 12:00 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's pretty definite that there will be a new Sonics someday, eventually...

.......................... The NBA is making Seattle the NBA’s Cleveland Browns, leaving them in the lurch in order to strongarm billions of dollars in public money for new arenas for their privately-owned millionaires’ club. Then in 5 years, they’ll start a new “Sonics” and pretend they never did nuthin’...

by timbo on Jul 3, 2008 7:40 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

One difference though

With the Browns, Cleveland got an expansion team to replace the old Browns/Ravens.

With the Sonics, ain’t gonna happen. If a team comes to Seattle, it’s gonna be an existing franchise-several (Grizzlies, Nets, Hornets) have owners who would LOVE to move to greener pastures. Some rumors indicate the Kings, Bucks, and Bobcats might also be on the looking-for-a-new-home list. In other words, if Seattle gets a team, some other city will have their hearts broken.
Which brings up an interesting question. If a team with a well-established identity (say, the Hornets, who have been in the NBA about twenty years now, and have a good history of players ranging from Grandmama to Mourning to Chris Paul) were to move to Seattle-would that team’s identity be put in limbo, and the team then assume the Sonics name, colors, and history? Would the Sonics and the other team somehow “merge”—would we see Larry Johnson’s jersey hanging in the rafters next to Freddie Brown? What if it’s a more recent team, like the Grizz, who did squat in Vancouver and have done squat in Memphis? Do we just shoot the Grizzlies in the head then?

Welcome GoodKeith, AK1984, and all ex-Seattle fans

My undying sympathy to any of the old Sonics faithful…you are all welcome here as far as I’m concerned, no initiation needed (as there would be with an ex-l*ker fan)

I can’t decide whether to consider OKC as one of our most hated rivals or simply boycott any and all of their games…don’t go, don’t buy the jerseys, don’t tune in on TV or the radio

Probably will end up boycotting every game on TV except when they play the blazers. I can’t in good faith turn down the opportunity to watch these guys play. But anytime the Blazers aren’t involved, I consider it my duty to do as much as possible to ensure that that franchise hemorrhages money at a rate that would put the last few years in Seattle to shame

yeah though, if you’re from seattle I could see Roy being your guy…and I have a feeling he’ll really get up to play OKC

I also have been to OKC

i have to go to Norman, OK for training periodically and fly into OKC and catch a shuttle to my training site. And I have come to the exact opposite conclusion as you (unless I missed some sarcasm)

A couple times in the evening after training I have headed into downtown OKC to see the bombing monument and to get out of the training facility. Both times I the groups that I have been with ended up at the Bass Pro Shop (which incidentally is about a 10 minute walk from where the OKC Robber Barons will play) just looking around. If the most exciting thing going on in your city on a random weekday night is a camping/fishing/hunting supply store, then it would seem to me that your city isn’t a happening place.

I posted this in the Junk Drawer too, but I have a question I would like answered or at least speculated on.

I really believe this OKC franchise will be cursed. I’m not sure how all of the bad karma that Clay Bennett has been sowing will manifest itself, but he (and OKC by extension) will reap it, I’m sure, in more ways than one. My Dad and brother are Sonic refugees, we grew up in Oregon but my Dad grew up in Seattle. They made the jump a couple of years ago. He buys ticket packages for Blazer games every year, but he used to make special trips to Seattle to see the Sonics and they were always first in his heart. I remember two years ago when he said, “Noah, I think the Blazers are my team now. They’ve replaced the Sonics as the team I care most about.” He and my brother had finally seen the light, the Blazers had won their hearts. I said “It’s about time.” Welcome Sonic refugees. We will take all comers. You’ve been generous with your Seahawks and Mariners over the years. Thank you. On to my question.

Now that it’s over, I was wondering if anybody knows how the divisions will be setup. I can’t imagine OKC staying in the Northwest division, but I they can’t go to the East right? So it would be the Southwest division. But then who comes from the SW division to the NW division? None of those teams make sense, but I guess neither does Denver, or Minnesota, heck Utah isn’t really NW either. But Memphis, no. The texas teams, no. New Orleans, no. Do you move OKC to the southwest and then move somebody from the southwest to the pacific and then somebody from the pacific to the nw? I need answers!

A bunch of one-team moves. The NW Division no longer exists, since only one team is actually in the NW. Portland moves to the Pacific division to join GSW, SAC, LAC, and the army of darkness. PHX moves to the SW, New Orleans moves East to the Southeast division, Washington moves to the Atlantic, Toronto to the Central, Milwaukee to the West to join Utah, Minny, Denver, and the OK Robber Barons in the new Midwest division. Therefore:

PACIFIC
Portland
Golden State
Sacramento
LA Clippers
la l*kers

SOUTHWEST
Phoenix
Dallas
San Antonio
Houston
Memphis

MIDWEST
Minnesota
Utah
Denver
Milwaukee
clay bennett’s dirty money

CENTRAL
Detroit
Chicago
Cleveland
Indiana
Toronto

ATLANTIC
New York
New Jersey
Boston
Washington
Philadelphia

SOUTHEAST
Atlanta
Charlotte
New Orleans
Orlando
Miami

This also helps balance out the conferences by sending crappy Milwaukee to the West and awesome New Orleans to the East.

There are, in fact, no plans for realignment that I’m aware of, this was just my idea of how to best make it work. Feel free to compliment/lambaste the idea at your discretion.

They need to put Chicago in the Pacific division

Just like the White Sox were in the American League “west” for so long, the Bulls should be in the Pacific for this to make sense.

Include me in praising this alignment GustyJ suggested, because it makes complete sense all over the damn place.

I didn’t even think of that, but I wouldn’t mind twice as many games for LMA to shove the ball down their throats. Even if Tyrus Thomas magically becomes better than LMA, I doubt we’d ‘hate’ him. I don’t necessarily get that biase towards LMA…

Until we got better, we got the Paul/Deron/Jordan picks shoved down our throats and we didn’t ‘hate’ them, and this isn’t at that level… yet. MUAHAHAHA.

In fact

Chicago, Milwaukee, Indiana and Kansas City were in the west while Houston, New Orleans and San Antonio were in the east in 1979. When the Jazz moved to Utah the next season they swapped with Indiana. In 1980 they further realigned so that Milwaukee and Chicago could swap with Houston and San Antonio, thereby paving the way for the 81 Houston/Boston final.

I agree that GustyJ’s divisional realignment makes a TON of sense. I don’t like the rationale of moving teams so that the conferences are more even as that would open the door to suggest moves every time the pendulum of power switches, but from a geographical POV, it’s the best option.

by erastus25 on Jul 3, 2008 4:41 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

To be honest,

The benefit of the conferences being more even with the Milwaukee/New Orleans switch was merely a side effect of trying to make the best geographical arrangement. I’m all for Western Conference superiority, though, so maybe I’ll just send Memphis to the east instead of New Orleans. =)

The problem with most any realignment, as I see it, is that the geographical “regions” are usually determined by east coast people, who largely different views about which regions get lumped together. For instance, we here in Portland consider the “Northwest” to be Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and maybe Montana, with the “Pacific Northwest” being even more exclusive. Someone in New York or Miami, on the other hand, might see the Northwest as anything west of the MIssissippi and north of the Mason-Dixon line. Hence why Kansas City and St. Louis teams have almost always been considered to be in the “West,” when they’re actually closer to the Atlantic than the Pacific.

Well, the current plan was pretty good

before the Seattle thing happened. I can’t really see them actually making so many moves so soon, but maybe they do some changes following next season. Although I did hear once that people out east consider anything from Minnesota to Washington the “Northwest,” so maybe they won’t feel the need to realign like we do.

You wouldn't think so, but...

The Atlanta Braves were in the NL West for years before they finally realigned, and also remember the old NFC West of San Francisco along with those well-known Western haunts of St. Louis, New Orleans, Atlanta, and Carolina. Pro sports leagues don’t necessarily have the best record when it comes to alignment and “Western” divisions.

But if Schultz wins

The article states…

Schultz’s lawsuit and the settlement offers the possible scenario of the Sonics playing a season in Oklahoma City and then, as the result of a court action, returning to Seattle for the 2009-10 season.

it also says in response to the question “Is it over? Are the Sonics now certain to move to OK?”

When I was a kid...

Growing up, I had adopted a farm cat (meaning, a cat that was a mix of a bunch of different breeds) that was probably the best cat ever. He brought me dead birds all the time, bats, moles, and even sometimes they were still alive and he’d let them loose in my bedroom.

He’d actually come running when I called him, which is pretty rare for a cat. He could also open doors by twisting the knob with his paws and kicking the door open with his feet. He was very smart.

As I got older, I realized that while he was smart like a cat, his loyalness and attitude was more like a dog’s. He would do all the cat things, try to give me dead animals and whatnot, but always had to be with me and other dog stuff.

So growing up, I thought I was a ‘cat person’, when I really am probably a dog person who also loves cats.

He was the most doglike cat I ever did knew.

Xerxes was a cat-cat, and if you didn’t know better you’d swear we stuck hot pokers in his eyes ever since he was a kitten. He acted like he was abused and was skittish and silly. We had him since he was a kitten, so he wasn’t abused or anything… just cuckoo in the cat-brain. He’d be in your lap and purring and then he’d realized he hated you and try to eat your face.

Pets are fun.

- What was stolen and then returned to Bill Walton at the championship parade?
- What was Kelvin Cato’s avocation?
- What was the Blazer’s record when Bill Walton broke his foot the year after the chamionship?
- What year was Sabonis drafted? Those are off the top of my head. To people younger than 45, it won’t mean a thing that we drafted LaRue Martin No. 1 in 1972 ahead of Bob McAdoo. To me, it was a source of real pain, until Sam Bowie taught me REAL pain. But it does not make me a better fan, just older than some. I am a Duck fan, too, like the original poster, but the Tall Firs NCAA chamionship is just a curiosity to me. Ronnie Lee and the Kamikazee Kids are a different item. Does that “Duck” know who they were?

It is ridiculous. Welcome former Sonics fans; after Baron’s new contract, we might even pull a few GSW fans. I would even welcome Jck Ncholson and L*ker fans.

The PTB’s have a lot of potential, seem to be decent guys, and should be easy to get behind. And I’m terribly terribly sorry about the SEATTLE Super Sonics

Ime Udoka

Born in Portland. Played at Jefferson and P.S.U. Bounced around the NBDL, got the invite to Blazers camp after Miles crapped out. Played well and signed a F.A. deal with the Spurs.

I wouldnt expect a basketball fan to have that kind of knowledge on Ime. I just need to know that someone claiming to love the blazers actually knows who Ime Udoka is. It’s for all the d-bags around the UO campus that think they love the blazers because they took the time to look at the box score from the previous night.

A sufficient answer for me is: played at psu, played for blazers, currently on spurs.

Speaking from the refugee fan perspective...

Sonics fans are going to go either one of two ways:

1) They’ll abandon the NBA, burn every piece of Sonics memorabilia they own and create a huge toxic green and gold cloud, and rightly so.
2) If they love basketball they’ll adopt (or attempt to find) a new team and then learn all the ins and outs of the team.

Regardless I should have known about Ime Udoka, he’s one guy who I could see being on my all-name all-stars.

Though, I don’t think it’s quite over yet, until the Schulz case goes away.

However, in solidarity, I plege to make the Oklahoma City team my 2nd most hated team, right behind the Lakers. Sorry, I just can’t stop that kind of deep hatred over night…otherwise they’d be first.

It's okay to hate the Lakers considering history.

Teams I hated as a Sonics fan:

Nuggets (1995 Playoffs)
Bulls (Of all the teams to play against in the NBA Finals, the Sonics drew the best team ever)
Suns, Blazers, Spurs

Loved playing the Rockets in the postseason considering they NEVER got past the Sonics in the postseason. Ever. Their current slump is hilarious to me.

We shared that hatred for the Bulls as well

The video of MJ shrugging after he hit like his 7th three pointer against us in the finals, still ticks me off to this day.

The Nuggets are really hard to hate b/c they are so mediocre.

The Spurs and Suns have owned us for awhile. I do anticipate finally ending the drought this year.

I was surprised

when I saw Seattle settle. I hoped, and thought, they’d fight till the end. I was stronly in support of the Sonics staying in Seattle. Last season, when Stern was in Portland for the game, I even tried to get a Save the Sonics chant going in the second quarter. That didn’t work out too well. But anyway, the scariest thing about this is that now there is precedent for any owner that wants to move a team for no good reason. And that’s scary.

So, Seattle fans, I’m sorry. And the Blazers are gonna be a great team to follow if you want to jump aboard. And, for those fans, I have a question: When that team comes to Portland next season would it be better to start chanting, “Seattle Supersonics” or just boo? Would the chant be too painful? Because I’ll do one or the other. The Bedge should start that movement right now.

Your presence here negates the idea (that I’ve read elsewhere) that there were no Sonics fans left. Others have suggested that no way would Sonics fans become Blazer fans since we’ve always been rivals.

I grew up in Seattle and the Sonics were my first NBA love (back in the Lenny Wilkins era) but I’ve been here for years, Even so I hate the thought that they are leaving … and I am so proud of Paul Allen for voting NO in the owner’s vote.

Anyway, you have come to the right place and I hope you stay and have fun with us.

One last thing before I quit...

I’m still way bummed about the Sonics… I think I’m going to openly weep if I see one of my camp kids wearing a Supersonics shirt tomorrow. That’ll be tough times indeed.

As a lifelong Sonics fan, this sucks. Henry Abbott’s TrueHoop article is exactly correct, and the mourning picture? Truthful and super scary. It’s not going to be easy picking up a basketball and doing anything hoops related for the duration of the offseason, but I have to try, right?

Again thanks a bunch, have a good night, and have a pint in honor of thousands of refugee fans trying to move on. We’ll have our struggles but you know the ones who love basketball will stay with the game.

Thanks Keith--good Q&A

Keith, all these posts to you are quite informative, and the sardonic team names mentioned for OKC provoke questions. Thanks for being a catalyst. Seeing that the hijacked team is not taking it colors or name, seriously, who gets to make the decision on those options? “Sooner” or later, Oklahoma culture will be entwined. What about the GM and Coach, are they staying with the players? If Carlisemo stays, Presto, you got to think Sprewell for GM.

I live in Seattle and listening to all these fans suffer saddens me. The Sonics and Blazers had a special rivalry and Seattle losing the Sonics feels like the Blazers lost a part of themselves. "Who should I love? How much should I love them?"

The answers to this question are seriously deficient. I will step in and help.

Mortimer. Because his posts are even longer than mine. And because he might be KP in disguise.

Tominhawaii. Because he is the kind of guy that I wondered, at first, if this fanpost was written by him pretending to be a Sonics fan.

Annthefan. Because of #25 (hang around for long and you’ll understand).

Timbo. Because he provided my signature line.

T Darkstar. Because he combines theological knowledge, Koine Greek expertise, and Blazer fandom.

Ben. Because he writes stuff on the blog that greatly offends Charlotte fans and creates a firestorm.

Dave. Because he has responded to a few of my inane comments, but never to my good ones.

Amlmart1 and Blenzer. Because they mean that at least part of the foreign contingent at BE has something intelligent to say.

Ratxxx (whatever his name is, I can never remember). Because he and I have been agreeing forever on Koponen as a key part of our future. Even if he can’t remember PK’s name and calls him “Finland” all the time. That’s ok, I won’t hold it against him, since I can’t remember his name, but I do know it is borderline crude.

Me. Because I’m going to rule the world one day, and EVERYONE will love me. It would be a wise thing to learn to love me early, a very wise thing. The practice will do you good.

All the other people that I would have mentioned, but can’t, because then I’ll end up with a longer post than Mortimer, and I think that would be breaking one of the rules.

My condolences to all the Sonics fans...

...I think this is one of the lowest moments in the history of the league, to reward 41 years of loyalty with this nonsense. One wonders why any smaller-market fan base in the NBA should show the league the slightest bit of support knowing full well that the league holds them, quite openly, in contempt. Bennett and company are swine, but I hold David Stern equally responsible for this mess. This is his message-give us what we want, entirely at taxpayer’s expense, or we’ll be gone. One longs for the dignity and grace of Larry O’Brien.

I’ve often thought, ever since Bennett and Stern’s intentions became clear, that it would be poetic justice if King County or the greater Puget Sound area were to launch a sustained and widespread boycott of NBA merchandise. Hit them where it counts (not that anyone would be missing much-I can attest that much league merch is simply Chinese-made junk these days, having paid sixty bucks for a jacket that began to fray less than a week after its purchase). Just a notion.

Anyway, I hope those Sonics fans looking south feel free to adopt their former rivals as a worthy proxy. What you’ve gone through could very well have been the case here had the Rose Garden not been constructed when it was, or had Paul Allen’s passion for the team not been rekindled in the past two years. I know I’ll be looking for the Blazers to humiliate OKC with regularity, and if this offers any small consolation, I’ve heard rumors that those Sonics players making this move have indicated privately that they aren’t very happy with it. Let us hope that the OKC Carpetbaggers challenge and break the league mark for futility, and that this and further events conspire to drive Clay Bennett into bankruptcy, and David Stern to resignation and oblivion.

More ideas

It’s a great idea about the green and gold badges—I was even thinking that the Blazers’ unis would look awesome in green and gold for just one game AT THE KEY ARENA…except that it would completely freak out all Blazers-to-Seattle conspiracy theorists.

What about a public ceremony at a game where Sonics fans were officially temporarily welcomed into Blazermania? Or an official mayors’ ceremony wherein it was explained that the Northwest has to stick together for now, and that we look forward to having a great rival again someday?

Just to join the flock of de-lurkers here

I’m a Seattle resident who’s been following the Blazer community for a while now, and this finally got me to post as well. I’m relatively new to basketball, actually, and the team that first got me hooked were the 04-05 Sonics. It was a funny thing—I could’ve cared less about any sport before then, let alone basketball. But one day, while I happened to pass in front of the TV my dad was watching, I watched Ray Allen calmly stroke one from downtown with that grace he has, and I was suddenly mesmerized. Watching that single moment of basketball opened my eyes to just how beautiful and fun and addicting the sport was.

Flash forward to the following year, where I began to follow UW basketball enthusiastically. I watched Brandon Roy lead our team to the Sweet Sixteen. I was euphoric after each round we won, and devastated at the end of our road. There was talk long before that Brandon would be a high lottery pick, and I eagerly followed the draft to see where he would end up. I was intrigued when he went to Minnesota, thoughts of him playing alongside KG flashing through my head. But then the trade was announced, and my first thought was “Oh no… not Portland, please… that was the last place I wanted to see him go. “

It’s funny how things work out. That was the beginning of my Blazer fandom, of course. I began to follow the Blazers, at first just to see how Brandon was doing, but soon I became fond of the players as well. Minus Zach and maybe a few others, these Blazers were just easy to root for. At the end of that season, I was solidly a Blazer fan first, and a Sonics fan second. The news that the Sonics had been sold to Clay only helped solidify that commitment. The #1 pick came, and my excitement level was through the roof. I happily followed the past season, pushing thoughts of the Sonics’ miserable season to the back of my mind. I attended Sonics games only to see the Blazers.

When I heard the news yesterday, though, a part of me still died inside. I was surprised at just how sad I felt, even though I thought I’d lost interest in the Sonics. It wasn’t until today that I realized that my basketball roots were planted in them.

So Sonics, I just want to say thank you for getting me excited about basketball. If it weren’t for you guys, I wouldn’t be here posting and enjoying in the Blazer’s highly anticipated future. Even as I cheer for the Blazers, you’ll always remain inside my heart.

Welcome from a longtime fan

You are most welcome here, and my sincere condolences on your loss.

I’m Northwest born and raised and was an NBA fan when Seattle first joined the league (two years before my beloved Blazers). I remember Walt Hazzard in the early years and the championship team with Sikma, DJ, Gus Williams and Lenny Wilkens. The SEA/PDX rivalry was a natural one, but there was always mutual respect and I never felt about the Green and Gold the way I felt (and feel) about the Purple and Gold of the L*kers.

I hope you find a home with us.

So hard to believe....

It’s so hard to believe this is really happening. I must say, my excitement for the future of the Blazers makes this whole thing even harder to swallow. Why? Because we all know rumors were swirling only a couple years ago that the Blazers could be moved, jacked, or a bit better, sold at any time.

Fast forward and here we are. Seattle, a much more major league city than Portland is left with their jaws dropped without a team. And to boot, Portland is the talk of the league now for the up and coming and Seattle is moving to freakin’ Oklahoma!
It’s just so hard to believe how much the tables have turned so quickly. We talk about how much time, experience, preparation, and commitment it takes to get your team to the finals and a championship. Yet it may only take two years to sink the whole ship.

I feel so bad for Seattle right now because I remember how bade those rumors hurt a couple years ago. I have a new love for Paul Allen for keeping the faith and sticking with a team he is so passionate about. We are all very lucky to have him. If that situation carried out much longer, perhaps Pay Bennett buys the Blazers and rips them out of our sole. That is what has happened. Seattle has lost part of it’s sole, identity. I mourn for them, mostly for how bad it must feel.

With that being said, I welcome all of you up North to join us in NBA heaven as we watch this epic group of youngsters grow together to redeem this city from the brink of losing it’s only franchise to full throttled ecstasy. We have the passion here that can soak up all that pain. Join us. Join us the way we root on the Mariners and the Seahawks. I know it wont be easy, but the best remedy for a hard break up, is a fine, sexy, young, talented, replacement who looks good in whatever she’s wearing….red, white, or black.

Pay Bennett will get his karmic return, and eventually so will Seattle (and Starbucks guy) but for now join us in beating the Lakers and representing the Northwest’s only NBA team. We are RIP CITY!!!!
