Vegas Summer League and Bedge Dinner

Vegas Summer League

Where can I stay?

I recommend this location:

Best Western McCarran Inn
4970 Paradise Road
Las Vegas , Nevada
89119-1206,United States
Phone: 7027985530
Fax : 7027987627

It's right by the Cox center and close to the strip.  It's also fairly cheap for a hotel by the strip.  I believe Hooters, NY,NY and the Mirage are also on the same street as the Cox center.

If you're looking for cheap and don't care how close you are:

http://www.hotels.com/ has been recommended by Clevelander among roses

When is it?

http://www.nba.com/summerleague2008/schedule_08.html

July 17    10:00 PM ET    Portland vs. Minnesota*
COX Pavilion - Thursday
July 19    10:00 PM ET
Portland vs. Phoenix*       COX Pavilion - Friday

I will be there on the two days listed above. The idea is to have Dinner with Blazer Edge folks on Friday 7.18.08 at 7pm.

What is the cost?

http://www.unlvtickets.com/eventInfo/spe/34/nba-summer-league-presented-by-ea-sports/

The cost is $20 per person for the full day at either center.  Link above gives you more information.

What about the awesome blazers edge dinner which is the only reason I'm going?

Star Trek: The Experience

http://www.startrekexp.com/

We'll be eating at Quark's.

When is this awesome dinner?

Date:  July18th (FRIDAY) 2008

Time:  7pm

RSVP

See above.  Still don't know and will be based on availability of people coming into vegas.

Is anyone famous going to be there?

Dave has confirmed.  Can you GET more famous?

Additional information?

Tips will be 19% automatic to the meals.

Food goes from $10-$30 depending on what you get.  (salads are about 6 or seven and the menu is online if you go to the link)

Drinks are $8 ea but apparently look cool.  Also, Ferengi's may try to buy your girlfriends.   I'm going to see how much I can get

All ages

closes at 11pm

How about that cool museum and ride???

Rides start at Noon and run every 20 minutes.  Stop at 8:30pm

Museum open from Noon-8:30pm.

Rides are little simulation shuttles that bump you up and down and provide a story.

I've been told the Klingon is the better and so see that last.  I have no idea if that's actually factual.

You can go as often as you like as the tickets are day tickets not ride tickets.

Price:  37.99 online or $42.99 in person.

More questions?:  1.888.GOBOLDLY

So what information do you need from us?

I'm so glad you asked!!!

  1. How many of you are a hankering to go to the dinner?  (need to reserve)
  2. Dave, would other press members be able to attend and should the time be revised if that's the case?
  3. Are any of you interested in doing the rides as a group before dinner?
  4. Need this linked or posted on the main page because it didn't stay up for more than two hours yesterday.

Who do we contact?
Email:  jayson262001 at  yahoo.com
I need reservations in by 7.10.08 (not this coming friday but next friday) to guarantee a table.  I'll go two over just in case there's a local last minute, but please RSVP.

I can't offer you my amazing company, as I'll be kiteboarding in Lincoln City

but I give thee what I have—a rec.

I still haven’t figured out what “fax” is though.

How do I set my laser printer to stun?

I may not know until after the 10th

I shall settle for a non-guaranteed table if I end up making it. :) If there’s no room, there’s no room.

It’ll definitely depend on wedding planning, and a little on how crazy hot it is.

(BTW any reason you didn’t go for dinner on the strip?)

I'm open to changing the venue

if there are enough requests or a strong desire. I mean, if you DONT want the added entertainment of watching my gf kill me for attempting to sell her, I understand.

Star Trek experience is on the strip

Isn’t it?

The mono-rail does runnith to it.

The main reason is “OH!!! THEY HAVE QUARKS??? COOOL!!!!!

The geek in me has shined through. Also, I thought it might give us something to talk about besides blazers, on the off chance we’ve run out of opinions on that subject. I assume there must be other geeks out there somewhere.

it is on the strip

just on the complete opposite end, from the cox/unlv, best western side of the strip. I think what Timmay! ment was in the newer part of the strip.

Gotcha.

I saw that, but the Mono rail will take us over there so I figured it wouldn’t be too bad. I suppose some people MIGHT be watching other teams on Friday… but if they weren’t they could roam around the strip and meander over to that direction. That’s what I plan on doing after my GF attempts to kill me on the NY NY roller coaster ride.

The Las Vegas Hilton

is not technically on ‘the Strip’ (it’s a couple of blocks east of Las Vegas Blvd.), but the monorail indeed has a stop there. As a matter of fact, when you walk from the monorail stop into the Hilton, the first thing on your left is the Star Trek Experience.

BTW, the Star Trek Experience is closing in September. So this might literally be your last chance to visit/ride/experience it.

Count me in for dinner on Friday night. It’ll be great to finally meet some of you.

Awww it's closing?

Awww man that stinks, I love that attraction.

(Thanks to those who covered what I meant about off the strip. I forgot the monorail goes right to it now)

Yeah

A friend posted that it was closing in september, that’s how i found out about it in the first place. I’m going to be going anyway, so I figured Friday would be the best night as games are going on the other two days I’ll be in town.

My buddy and I are planning on heading down.

We haven’t made a set plan, but I just need to convince myself I’m not gonna break the bank down there. My buddy is an avid reader of Blazer’s Edge, but he’s yet to make the jump to becoming a contributor. If we come, and we most likely will, we’d love to join everyone for dinner. I would definitely prefer ESPN zone as I really have no interest in Star Trek, but I’d love to meet a few of the many personalities we have around here so I’m down for whatever.

Seeing as we’re college kids, we’re not exactly rolling in the cash these days. Airfare is not a problem cause I”ll probably just cash in miles. But I’ve never been to Vegas before so I was wondering if anyone could recommend some cheap hotels in the area. We’ve stayed in a $20 a night hotel across the border from Tijuana when we road tripped to see the Holiday Bowl, and had my car broken into in Vancouver B.C. because we stayed in an area surrounded by prostitutes and bums, but we just figure squalor comes with the territory when college kids travel. So all we’re really looking for is a disease free room with 2 beds, a shower, and a < %10 chance of getting robbed and/or shanked.

I'm actually down there for a bridge tournament at the same time,

And got rooms at the Sahara for $30 a night using www.hotels.com. The Sahara is near the Hilton (ironically, the site of the national bridge tournament), but apparently on the other end of the strip from where the Blazers are playing.

I hope I’m not available for the dinner (because it means my team was knocked out of the bridge tournament), but if I am, I’ll probably stop on by to see if there’s any room left.

At this point

Dinner will definitely be at Quarks.
