(Slightly OT) Logo
A post called "Righting the Logo" really got me thinking the other day. To paraphrase a little, the post had to do with the current "leaf turning" of our beloved Blazer's, and with that, we should consider turning the pinwheel back to vertical. Along with this concept I began considering what new merchandise would/could look like, as well as the potential of new uniforms.
The uniforms of our past were simple, defined, yet never used our infamous 5 on 5 pinwheel as the primary focus. However, in my eyes this is the primary focus. I started playing with some new ideas just for fun and came up with one that I thought was really cool. My signifigant other insisted that I share the idea with others, so I thought what a better way to share than with fellow Blazer fans.
This is just a meagar Blazer fan's concept, and maybe doesn't even deserve to be a fan post, but you never know what kind of conversation may rise from it. So enjoy!
Also... I did this with the cheezy MS Paint so it looks a little rough. You get the idea though.

Probably just something simple like we currently have, but I thought about using “PTB,” or the lower case spelling of “blazers” on the bottom front of the right side.

very solid!
alternating red & white stripes? the non-symmetric is good, reminiscent of the old Pacer’s jerseys. is the second image supposed to be the jersey back?

Honestly?
Somebody once told me that “honesty can too often be a club we use to beat people with.” I don’t want to beat you with the club of honesty, so let me filter what I’m thinking . . . . . . . . . . . . . . OK.
It looks like you worked very hard on your designs and I applaud your effort and creativity. I would love to see you put a bit more work in and further refine your design idea. Kudos.
Not too shabby, especially for MS Paint!
This is a great idea for an alternate jersey, and some iteration wouldn’t be a bad call if the team decides they need to switch up the uniforms. I’m a little hesitant to remove the red and white stripes from the front of the jersey, though. Those have become such a hallmark of the PTB basketball brand. I think the logo could be incorporated without sacrificing the stripes.

As these are dark
they must be the road jerseys, so would they be black/red stripes on white jersey for home? The top one is fine, but I don’t like the bottom half, the pinwheel droops and looks like part of a sad face.
I took the current pinwheel and tried to tilt it even more, but don’t have the right software yet on this new computer and Paint will only tilt it 90 deg. and that’s too much. But I was thinking of tilting it more in the same direction … sort of a “going forward, leaving the past behind” effect.

Good point
However, this team does have two sides, eg: the “white” and “black” unit. In this case white and red stripes, but they could be changed per home, away, or alternate jersey’s I suppose.
I would love to see us unveil something a little more cutting edge and radical for the new season, but I’m sure the gear will be the same as last year.

The current unis are a little bland. This is a really interesting design, especially for ms paint. But I strongly doubt this year will bring new unis.
I actually think it's fairly unique
we just see it all the time. The font is fairly breathtaking IMO, you don’t see anything like it anywhere. It’s asymmetrical, a rarity in the major sports these days.

It takes awhile to change uniforms
When the Blazers changed theirs in ‘91 they ran into all sorts of problems.
A couple of quotes from an Oregonian article – December 6, 1991
Author: NORM MAVES JR. – of the Oregonian Staff
“The degree of difficulty in making even the slightest change in a National Basketball Association uniform really lies somewhere between enduring a root canal and running the Boston Marathon. The process can wring the most highly placed club officials as dry as executive dishrags”.
“*
Back and forth with the NBA’s licensing office in New York City. This is what slows the process down: The NBA licenses its uniforms , logos and symbols to sporting goods retailers all over the country. If changes are made, retailers need time to sell the stock on hand. Ergo, more than just the league and Blazers have a say in what the players wear and when they wear it.“
The prototype uniforms arrived two days before the season started (4 months late) and were the wrong size. (NBA had changed manufacturers.) “Problem No. 2 was the lettering. The Blazers , who have not changed the lettering on their jerseys much since the first season in 1970-71, wanted something a little more modern. What they got was something that was hard to read without 5-power binoculars.”
I’m sure that things have changed for the better, but the bottom line is that you have to start planning the uniform change several years in advance.

I dont' know if this
is better, worse or the same as your idea or the current unis, but to combine the stripes and your idea:

My ignorance is my greatest weapon
cool
I like them both. This one’s better because of the stripes IMO. But instead of the number on the bottom front, how would it look there with the white half of the pinwheel? I’d try myself but I don’t have any paint programs.

I wanted to add
I also don’t know that I dislike it, it’s just that we’re already butchering the pinwheel more than I am comfortable with (even though I think it looks kinda cool).

Hey, I like that.
I’m wishing I had good paint software. Any suggestions?
It still looks like it’s missing something… a word… hmm. I don’t know if this would make it look too busy, but how would it look with “BLAZERS” placed diagonally over the stripes. If this is too much trouble, don’t bother.
Thank you for responding to my first idea, shenanigans. : )

Try GIMP

All of the fonts at my disposal...
suck for this application. They didn’t feel right on the uni so I stopped trying to force them on there. I would love to try it if something worked out. Plus all the legwork is on my home ‘puter and I’m not going to start over.

The overall idea to me is incorporating the pinwheel as the centerpiece. This looks cool! Maybe we can all team-up and push for new uni’s??

I said “this looks cool” I meant all of your ideas are great. It’s exciting to see other fans ideas, and that they feel the same way I do about new uniforms.

No name on the front?
Seems a little risky. I applaud the effort, but it comes across looking like those 90’s jerseys that had too much stuff on the front (giant raptor with shoes, giant grizzly, large flaming ball for the suns, giant red hawk)

You can't have too cluttered a uni!
I was going to throw some faux diamond plate up around the neck and then use some laser technology to make the pinwheel spin depending on what angle you looked at it from.
But then I thought about having an American flag shape with 13 red and white stripes, a black field in the upper left hand corner with 50 little tiny pinwheels in it.
But then I was torn about the possibility of using gold for every piece of lettering and numbering. Because you know…..GOLD!!
But in the end laziness prevailed and you only see what I posted. But I had big dreams, I tell you…... big dreams.
(excuse) In truth, I think that you would need to have lettering on the front, which in my design would probably require sizing down the pinwheel half and moving the stripe and pinwheel down the shirt a little. All my fonts were lousy and I was losing a little patience, though. (/excuse)
My ignorance is my greatest weapon
No name on the front!
No last name on the back!
I love it, but I think you should get rid of the “Portland” on the back, too.
That would be sick. Like those old school Miami ABA jerseys.

Eh
That’s my big pet peeve about the black Oregon basketball jersey – no names. Yeah, I guess they’re there, but it’s pretty much impossible to see them:

It’s too bad, too, because with yellow names, those black jerseys would be really sweet.

Thought I’d join in too, and share what I came up with. I had to put these together pretty quick so the font isn’t correct but it gets my ideas across.

I love the stripes
I hate the “bib/yolk” look however. It squeezes the wordmark too much on the front, and lord knows what would happen on the back of LMA’s jersey.
Other than that, my favorite so far. Combines the pinwheel and the existing jersey nicely.
M, period. Fresh, comma.
I just want to go back.....
To the older jerseys. I was watching that classic game of Blazers vs. Suns last night and those jerseys and warm-ups simply still can’t be beat 20 years later. The cursive Portland across the front is stylin’!

one point...
I know it’s the Portland Trail Blazers, but they have a ton of fans (I would bet more than 50%) who don’t live in Portland proper. I’d like to avoid the use of Portland on the jerseys…. it’s a regional team and by putting a City name on it you may turn off some folks a little bit. I’ve always thought the Oregon Trail Blazers would be a better name, but then again the folks from SW WA probably would disagree with that (and maybe future Seattle area fans). But the whole “Oregon Trail” tie in thing would be cool. I grew up in S. Oregon and they are just as passionate about the Blazers as anyone (I live in Salem now). They are a different breed down there, putting Portland on the jersey would be frowned upon some….

followup
The use of a State name, Oregon Trail Blazers, would not be new. We have Utah, Golden State, Indiana, New Jersey, Carolina, and others already in the league.

Oklahoma
SHOULD just use the name “Oklahoma” and not “Oklahoma City”. Doesn’t seem like they are leaning that way, but I think if they are smart they would. Oklahoma City is too long and too many sylables. they also don’t lose much since the main word is in both the city and state.
Perhaps they are keen on continuing to use the “OKC” shorthand on their logos and marketing materials (and likely jerseys). Still, I think almost every nickname I’ve seen sounds better when you leave out the word “City”.
