Blazers named in M. Ellis rumor
"And though a league source said Ellis has drawn sign-and-trade interest from the Heat, Cavs and Blazers, nothing is likely to materialize. Any scenario would require approval from the Warriors, who are intent on keeping Ellis and Biedrins."

I think he's a hell of a player, and would fit the 'combo guard with B. Roy' model for the roster. He's a real scoring guard, super quick. We'd presumably give Raef plus assets (SRod, Bayless + X, where X could be one of the usuals). What would it take for you to pull the trigger on such a deal? (About 8 nanoseconds?)
If the extra X were Webs or Travis, we'd need some SF help back, don't you think? Or would we be happy spreading the time at three around to Rudy? Imagine an Ellis, Roy, Rudy, LA, GO lineup, that would move.
Not too many players that would make me think of dealing with the current roster, at least not this year -- Ellis is one of them.

Tough call.
My only questions is – what do you do with the other guards? This is everyone’s dilemma right now. We don’t know how good Bayless and Fernandez can be if we don’t let them play, and if either turn out to be as good as Ellis, then we’ve simply acted prematurely. We’ve just added two guards this year in Bayless and Fernandez to Blake and Roy, Ellis would be a 3rd. No doubt he’s a good player, but there aren’t enough minutes for that group, as Ellis would be getting the big bucks, and if you’re going to pay the money, he’d have to be a 30-35 minute type,. That would leave Bayless, Fernandez and Blake fighting over maybe 25 to 30 minutes. Interesting rumor, but I suspect that that is all it is.

Ellis
I love watching Ellis play, but I think I pass if it requires RLEC, Bayless and X. I’d give them RLEC straight up, but why give them 3 strong assets for one?

That would mean quite a lot of salary for Mr. Ellis

Don't get this one
One of the main reasons that Bayless is considered a huge upgrade at the combo guard position is not so much for his offensive skills but for his defensive potential. If that was truly the thinking, then this Ellis move does not make sense.
Ellis plays NO defense. As in nada. Zilch. Nil.

Most people here seem to think Carmelo Anthony sucks for being all offense (even if he’s top 3 in the NBA at scoring and scoring ability), but a lot of people here seem to think Monta Ellis is really good for being all offense, and he’s not anywhere near the ability of a Carmelo Anthony.
I think it’s because Monta is smaller, is newer, and doesn’t have the hype of a Melo. In reality though, when Golden State makes him the dude they build around, they’re just dooming themselves to mediocrity. He isn’t very good at anything but scoring, and as a main player to build around you simply need more than that.
He isn’t a good shooter, isn’t even a good DRIBBLER for a guard, not a good playmaker or passer, and is a God-awful defender. He is extremely one dimensional, even if his one dimension is a fun one and he is efficient at scoring.
Basically, for those who love him, I think he’s way overrated. As a co-star, like Outlaw is for us, you can absorb his holes and let him score. As a main dude and possibly a PG, he’s lacking in many skills a good team needs.
I like the description of Bayless saying he’s the Thinking Man’s Monta Ellis. I won’t mind if he isn’t as good of a scorer as Monta of course, as long as he’s a decent playmaker/defender/shooter.

Ellis can't shoot the 3
That, salary matching, and the huge price ina ssets, I say clearly no. Nice player. Not franchise caliber.
Looking for trades with the receiving party’s frame of mind is intriguing. For instance, who would Don Nelson want?

they need a pg
blake + rlec + srod = yes
anything involving trout, webster, bayless = no
ellis is not a superstar, and does not really fit any of the “pressing” needs of the blazers
he would be the starter until rudy passed him, 4 months give-or-take

hes a role player that scores, not much else
theres no way GSW is going to trade him anyway, after the Baron left

Ellis will be a super star.
“He is only the ninth guard in NBA history to shoot at least 60 percent from the field in a single month after making 60.2 percent of his shots.”
He is only 22 and should develop nicely but we can’t have him. Golden State doesn’t need more cap room so RLEC won’t do them any good. There are only three guys who could get the trade done and that’s Oden, ALdridge, or Roy. I’m not even sure Golden State would trade Ellis straight up for Aldridge. It’s pointless to even dream of it.
I don’t know why some Blazer fans seem so down on the kid. He reminds me of a smaller, quicker, Clyde Drexler.

I'm not down on him
I just don’t think he does anything but score, which we normally scorn when it is other players.
He’s a horrible defender, bad passer, not a good dribbler for a PG, and doesn’t create for others. He is incredibly efficient scoring, though, and can penetrate at will.
He doesn’t have a lot of natural gifts that would make him more than a scorer; at least he hasn’t developed them. I am generally against SGs who are short so they have to play PG but have no PG ability. THAT’s the problem with Monta…
If he’s your co-star scorer, it’s cool. But he doesn’t have a complete enough game to be a franchise dude. That’s like us giving Z-Bo ‘cornerstone’ status because he averages 20/10 with a good percentage. Monta is much more talented, but he’s too one-dimensional and is pretty bad at the important things he is bad at.
He could learn, but it’s a lot more likely he’ll never have PG skills, than he’ll suddenly blossom into a creator.
Drexler wasn’t a great ballhandler, but he was a really good passer and playmaker, plus a great defender. Monta rates pretty poor in all of those areas. Offensively though, he’s awesome and could be a 25+ scorer for YEARS. But the rest of his game won’t win you much over time, as is. He’s young though…

OK.
People have talked about Monta Ellis a lot and it always sort of hovers around the negative things in his games. If he was a Blazer we would all be crazy about him. (Example: Travis Outlaw)
He isn’t a bad passer. This is some sort of Monta Ellis urban myth. A bad passer compared to who? Have you seen him pass? He’s not off the charts amazing, but he’s not bad by any means.
He is a pretty bad defender. This is true, but that’s just what you get with undersized 2 guards like Ellis, Gordon, and Iverson.
When Baron was injured I thought he ran the team remarkably well. He doesn’t have all the PG skills he should, but I blame that on Don Nelson. I would have to see him run the point in a different system to get a better feel for his point guard skills.
We overvalue our own players like crazy, but do we have to undervalue guys on other teams as well? Sure he has some weaknesses, but I still think he is one of the top 10 most promising guards in the league.

I don't think Outlaw is very good
I see the same faults in Outlaw, and do not think he is as good as most Blazer fans think.
Monta Ellis is kinda the same; very athletic, great scorer, doesn’t do much else.
Yeah, I watched a lot of Warriors games, he isn’t a creative or PG-type passer. He isn’t a PG, he’s a Me-G, meaning he gets his own points and nuthin’ else.
He might get better at that, but playmaking is a natural gift in many ways and most dudes like him remain pure scorers and nothing else. He’s great at what he does well, but really bad at the things he does bad. He’s worth a bunch of money, but making him your cornerstone isn’t a good idea.
Outlaw has huge holes in his game I doubt he’ll ever overcome to become a star, but I hope he does.

Baseball stats?
"He is only the ninth guard in NBA history to shoot at least 60 percent from the field in a single month after making 60.2 percent of his shots."
I know that a serious achievement, but this just reminds me way too much when media/fans in baseball come up with a random stat that highlights a brightspot of a baseball players performance.
“We need to trade for Monty Ellisburger! He has the most RBI’s ever against left handers with runners at 3rd base in the 6th inning in the month of July”
Not trying to discount the achievement, just wanted to give a tongue-and-cheek example of what it reminds me of.

I've made the comparison here before
But Monta REALLY reminds me of Steve Francis. His elite athleticism and mad hops carried the guy to the top, and once they failed, left him tumbling back down the mountain.
I love Monta’s game, he’s fun to watch, but I would NOT give up LMA for him and I can’t imagine there are many NBA GM’s who would. McHale maybe…....Isaiah in his prime.

apparently the trade fantasies are still en vogue
M Ellis? Come on. What’s he ever done. There’s a difference between being a scorer and a winner sometimes
