Rooting against Oden...
I have to admit it.
I hope Oden is only "pretty good".
It's not because I dislike Oden (very likeable!) or don't want the team to win (Four in a Row!)...
It's because Brandon Roy is far and away my favorite player. I haven't felt as strongly about a player since I was 8 years old and watching Ken Griffey Jr. step to the plate against Dave Stewart, then rushing to the nearest shop to by enough Donruss cards that I could proudly display his rookie card at school the next day. I love Brandon Roy.
For me, Brandon Roy is to basketball what Wyld Stallyns are to music. I don't think I can accept anything that might change the glorious, harmonius future that Brandon Roy will bring us. I can talk about him in hyperbole that would make Bill Walton roll over in his grave. I can express my deep, completely non-homoerotic love for him by writing his initials on my Trapper-Keeper. I would kiss his poster every night, if only I didn't put the poster so high on the wall. I recently broke up with a girl, not because she didn't like Brandon Roy, but I know that with him in my life, I could never really commit to her. Such is life as a BR fan (we call ourselves "BRO's")

This is hillarious
Broy is and allways be the face of this franchise. Oden is Roys Shaq, and will be huge, maybee loved more by some, but it is and will be Roy that ushers us to the promise land.
"As long as Yao is in the league, Greg Oden will probably never start in an all-star game, because he doesn’t have 1 Billion people voting for him."

"Just so we're totally clear(, y)ou’re saying you want me to kill Yao, right?"

agree....Roy will have the ball in the most critical situations
... but I fear we won’t get to those situations unless Oden is what we hope he is. Brandon needs a dominant Greg and Greg needs Brandon.
Boomshakalaka
Blasphemy
This is Blazer’s Edge, not Roy’s Edge. Anything that is good for the team is what matters.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.—Dune
It's obvious that you are saying this in jest
and just trying to provoke a response. So I’l lbite. If your end rusult is truly to have Roy be glorified then it must be done through ‘team” success. League MVP’s are doled out off of team success too.
What we have seen is that team success will bring everyone accolades just like when the Pistons had 4 players on the All Star team a couple of years back.
Would you rather have Roy be the MVP of the Finals or the MVP of the regular season?
I'm a little confused by your tactics

both are true
I am saying this in jest;
but Roy is still my favorite player; and if Oden is too good, he will be the one garnering all the credit and attention. Yes, it’s 5th grade pettiness, but it’s there.
M, period. Fresh, comma.
If Roy were hurt by attention to another player
he would not be Brandon Roy as we have come to know him. I believe he would reject your fears, as his satisfaction does not seem to come from being the man but being part of a great team. Greg is another great part of that team.
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
Roy to Fear: "I reject you!!"

He can still be your favorite player
In the good old days all the media was about Drexler, but if you looked on my trapper keeper it just said Tom Porter ad infinitum,
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
like when girls would take
their first name and then right the last name of the boy they had a crush on their binder over and over and over.
In this analogy I would be the girl (Tom) and Terry Porter would be my crush
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
I hate when that happens.

What does that is when you press the space bar right after hitting the return key.
This is regular text.
This is funky text with a space before it.

If Oden could possible be a threat to winning your love over Roy...
Then I would seriously have to question just how true your commitment to Roy is in the first place. Say no to harlotry.

If Brandon Roy continues to have a all star career Oden being the greatest big man of all time couldn’t take away from that in my opinion. Ken Griffey Jr was also my favorite player until he sold out and went to the Reds. Man that was a disappointment.
I know it stinks that he Junior left, but he hardly sold out
He decided to go home instead of going to a big market where he could have ended up making a lot more money. I know it stinks for Mariners fans that he left, but it was hardly your normal sellout.

Embrace the TEAM concept
TEAM means multiple players. I like Batum but only in the context of what he adds to the team.
KP is putting together a great team. That means a balance of compatible talents that collectively win games.
If you want to root for a single player, pick one that is hogging almost half of a teams Cap money. If you want to enjoy basketball, embrace all of the Blazers. Collectively, they are what basketball should be about.
I guess Roy might stay the best player on the team, but Oden will be the best known
Oden most certainly has the physique, the talent and the personality to become much more known and ultimately liked throughout Portland, Oregon, the USA, the world (OT thought, funny that the world is the only thing not written with a capital letter in this line).
He could very well be the next Walton/Ewing/Robinson/Shaq/pick your favorite big man of his time until all is said and done. Roy will be mentioned often, make the All-Star team, maybe win MVP titles, but far more “outsiders” will know about Oden. Friends and people in my family who never watched an NBA game know that Shaq is a famous basketball player, but couldn’t even tell Kobe Bryant from some Hollywood actor or rap star and have never heard the names of some hugely important role players.
Coach, I promise I wasn't running hard ...
THis is not healthy
By rooting against Oden you are blaspheming everything that Roy represents. Roy is truly one of the most dedicated teammates you will find in the NBA. Kobe/Shaq comparisons may be warranted, but they are still unsettling. Although Oden may be Shaq-like, Roy is no Kobe. Kobe thrives on his massive ego to propel himself, whereas Roy tries to make his team better by making the right play everytime.
Love is blind.
God is love.
Ray Charles is God.
Not surprising that he loves Roy this much
...dude’s a huskies fan! This all makes a little more sense now!
That also explains the irrationality.

not just a fan
but, you knew, grew up down the street from Hec Ed,
Lived in Seattle for 25 years,
Went to UW, still a big Dawg Fan.
Was a Sonics fan until about 2006.

Oh dear
poor Bill Walton, dead before his time.
And the poor girl, dumped for a man, an unattainable (though not wanted in that way) man.
Manzell, you must be one Halberstam was concerned about, the obsessive superfan.
If your obsession was for anything other than a Blazer I would say “get a life”, but I can only say “right on!”

Yep. I had go Google Bill to make sure he hadn't died while I wasn't paying attention. Whew!

Its roy's team
dont fret…oden can not be oden without brandon setting him up and clearing out his man to give oden room to work..without no roy there is no superstar oden…if he ever gets on the court
if it can be conceived it can be achieved
Exactly.
With Oden, Roy’s assist count is going to skyrocket. Remember how Roy was an assist or two away from a triple-double in like 40 games last year. Roy is going to have J Kidd like numbers with Oden around over the next ten years. You should be happy.

God is love.

Is there such a thing as an "anti-rec"?
That’s what I would give this post. We need a “disapprove” button.

+1 for the Wyld Stallions reference
Your love of Brandon warrants an “Excellent!!!” (including air guitar riff)
However, your comment about Oden rates a “Bogus.”
