The Blazers are on the brink of changing how the NBA game is played. There are two things that stick out in my mind. Two things that every NBA team will try and fail to emulate.
1) The twin towers. I know, I know, it's been done. After the Rockets did it in the mid eighties with Hakeem and Sampson, the entire league moved that way...or tried to. You could say that the L*kers have themselves a duo, but I think that they will be a light version of the Blazers on the front line. People have said that the Spurs were the last to do it, but I think that they, along with most GM's, we're trying to find the next big two. SA was successful, but in this case Robinson was at the end of his career.
2)Three combo guard rotation. Has it been done? Roy, Rudy and Bayless all are SG's with PG skills or PG's with SG skills. I may be pushing it here, but do any one of them actually fit into the norm for a SG or a PG? Normally 2 guards fit the norm and one has multiple skills.
We could be a witness to change in the game itself; and how things are done in the future.
Watch as teams struggle to keep up.

Brandon and Rudy are both 2’s. Payless is a 1 with 2 skills.

I disagree
I don’t see brandon as a classic 2 guard. While most combo guard are typically score first point guard (as it appears bayless may be), I see brandon on the other end of the combo guard spectrum, being a 2 who is more comfortable in the midst of the the offensive set rather than receiving on the wing. As for Rudy, it’s hard to tell with nothing more than youtube highlights to backing us up. He could very well be a combo guard in his own right.

I think on this one
you might be right, or close. B-roy, 2 with 1 skilz, Sinco, 2, Payless, 1 with 2 skilz.

Nice post
I am starting to think there is something unique developing with our guard situation as well. I don’t think that there will always be a pg and sg on the floor, but rather 2 guards capable of scoring or running a play. It could make for a confusing and dynamic offense. I also imagine a 3 guard rotation where all three perimeter players are capable of running a pick and roll and creating for others. I think we can be a team that consistently causes several significant mismatches for our opponents defensively, couple that with our own solid(possibly even great) defense and we could really be a special team. So excited…

Well,
It could be a trend for sure. Similar to the dying run and gun trend, which we are also rumored to be moving towards. What’s the difference between us and them with their failed playoff runs? We have two other trends to balance it all out, can strike from anywhere, and will dominate the defensive paint. I can’t wait! Longest summer of my life!

let's not be anointing any twin towers yet
not till we know that Oden can play the NBA game. Frankly I don’t think Oden will play more than about 20 minutes per game to start the season. He’s going to have a very steep learning curve.
Winning is everything.

2 things
you cant say twin towers as we still have to heal as an (SB) nation.
secondly GSW often runs a 5 guard lineup.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

Three guards plus twin towers. Mhm.
Other teams can offer that as well, e.g. Phoenix and LAL are emulating us (not).
Phoenix:
Twin towers: Shaq and Amare. Check.
A real PG: Nash. Check
Combo guard: Barbosa. Check
SG/SF combos: Bell. Hill. Check
Now they also have Lopez. Wohoo, triple towers. We could do that (Joel, GO, LMA), but it’s not really useful.
LAL:
Twin towers: Bynum (healthy) and Gasol. Check
A real PG: Fisher. Farmar. Check
Combo guard: Not really
SG/SF combos: Bryant. Vujacic. Mega-Check
But they will probably rather play Odom on SF instead of moving K*be there again over long stretches.
Coach, I promise I wasn't running hard ...

I can see...
that you found two examples for #1. Amare and Gasol have been considered C that would work better as a PF. Nicely done.
On point #2, I think you missed my point. All three Portland guards do not fit into the “norm” for a SG or a PG.
Barbosa fits mold for a combo, but Nash and Bell are clearly a PG and a SG. Fisher and Farmar are true PG’s. Bryant is the gold standard for a true SG. Vujacic is a combo guard.

I see where you are going,
but I would say that Roy is a SG that is a good play maker, so is K*be. We don’t really know yet what Bayless and Rudy will be like in the NBA.

I think
you have to have 2 legit 7 footers and Amare is 6’9”. Technically san antonio did not have twin towers as Duncan has beeen relisted at 6’10”.
LAL qualifies with Gasol and Bynum though.

He's not 6'10" in real life though, I'm pretty sure he is 7'0" or 7'1"
Just like Kevin Garnet who is really a 7 footer.

are you talking about
Duncan
as I think he was listed 6’10” in college and then miraculously grew a couple of inches since he was in Texas.
