Free Agents 2009-10
Got this from Another SB Thread so i cant take the credit but my question is since were supposebly making that big run for a Free Agent in 09 im scared that we will loose Joel The Thrilla Pryzbilla since hes a unrestricted and or Marty which i think will have a blow out season this year and put up great numbers, Also In 2010 Blaket and To are unrestricted i wudnt mind us loosing Blake but if Travis keeps improoving some other team may offer him a real nice contract that we cant compete with. What are you guys thoughts?

this year's RFAs
crossing my fingers that some of this year’s restricted free agents don’t get what they want from their team and sign a qualifying offer - then they’d be on this FA list. Ben Gordon is a high probability one, but don’t really see him coming here - but Luol Deng would be one that I’d love to see fall through the cracks. The Bulls might try to lowball him if nobody else steps up to the plate with serious money. With the right wink and a nod in his direction, perhaps he’ll see that this is one way to get onto a contender with cap space next summer…

2009 is slim pickens.
Only Deron Williams & Ron Artest are difference makers.
Williams would be a shocking steal if he left Utah to sign with us and Artest is obviously crazy, good, but crazy.. Jason Kidd is the other big name, but I would rather have the fan puncher than the crotch grabber.
I think I’ll focus on trade deadline deals.

Ime!
But I’ve heard that Malike Rose is a good point guard…

though seriously
Brandon Bass looks good depending on the PF situation (which looks great). Or Jamal Crawford, though I don’t know much about him.

Decision Time
We’ll probably see a lot of changes to this list before the end of the season. At the same time, we’ll have until February or so to evaluate where we are – which should give us the time to clarify the guards and the SF spot. The issue on the frontcourt is Pryz, Frye and Diogu, not getting more players. Pryz and Frye are both likely to be pretty attractive to a lot of teams, if only because Pryz is a better player at center than many of the current starters in the league, and Frye proviedes some insurance at both the PF and Center spots. Diogu needs a solid season to get much interest, given his last three years, but the sense I have with Webster is that the Blazers will have to make some decisions at SF by spring to resolve that spot. The cap space isn’t just about getting another player, it’s also about making decisions about the players we already have – and keeping them. Right now, Pryz, Diogu and Frye behind Aldridge and Oden seem to give us everything we need in the frontcourt, so losing one would mean only they’d have to be replaced. And this means this year will be the time to make some long term decisions about the team we now have. Then, we can talk about adding another piece. From where I sit, if the guards work out, then it comes down to keeping the frontcourt players we have, and resolving the SF spot if we’re not entirely satisfied. Let’s not forget that with 4 players on the restricted list, that the cap space is going to be affected if they’re not either resigned or traded before the end of the season.

If one of them is resigned...
can that player then be traded this year?
If not, then we’d know - at least one - who is staying.

yes, but
it’s very difficult. They become a base year compensation player until next July. You need trade exceptions or a team under the cap to make that kind of deal work.
Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.

Playing Cards Close to the Chest!!
Though Kevin will have the money next year to play, my hope is that he will not overextend and keep working mainly through the Draft. It is rare that you get what you wish for through free-agents without morgaging to much of the future(i.e Whitsett’s follys).

One Interesting RFA in 2010
Is Ronnie Brewer. Jazz will probably re-sign him before then, but he would be a tremendous 6th man on the right team. If Jazz get their cap room tied up in Boozer and Williams it’s possible another team could nab him. Someone should devote a fanpost to this.
That’s my new bit by the way, vaguely suggesting someone else should write a fanpost about something. I’m keeping a mental list of all the different things I’m suggesting so that when I see one of my suggestions in the sidebar I’ll be sure to rec it.
Did you hear that BEdge? One guaranteed rec for any fanpost that follows one of my many inane suggestions.
