Quick on SL practice

Quick was on Olive talking about the summer league practice and here are some quick tidbits:

http://blog.oregonlive.com/blazers/2008/07/podcast_post_rookies_pre_vegas.html

-Batum WILL be on the roster this year. He does not have a contract in Europe so we will sign him.

-Compared to Rudy Gay but some think he may be like TO

-Bayless looked like a stud with a nice dunk and a pretty teardrop, but playing against SL scrubs he should dominate

-Needs to work on his jumper as he gets good elevation but needs to get it off quicker

-Some compare Bayless to Roy in the way he can control the way his defender plays him, moving him one way or another

-Bad with Media so far, just is not his "cup of tea" as per Quick. Not a bad thing just "firey."

-Might be 6'1 per Quick but DX has him listed in predraft measurements @ 6'1.75 w/out shoes, 6'3 w/ shoes. Exactly the same height as Devin Harris minus the wingspan and the same height as Deron w/out shoes but Derons shoes are a .25 in shorter than "Pay Up"s

-Jones will be missed but this is a chance for Marty and TO to step up

-The team will belong to Roy, but Portland will belong to Oden, insofar as Roy will command the respect of the team, but may not have the personality to win over all of Portland. Oden will have the personality to win over all Portlanders, not just us hardcore Blazer fans.

-Channing should have "marked improvement" as per Quick, and should have the biggest leap among returning players. Epitomizes the "Perfect Blazer" in losing his starting spot, working hard and being ready at any time if called upon. "Ultimate team guy"

-Starting lineup as per Quick per Nate,

Blake

Roy

Webster

LMA

Oden

"Set in stone"

Is it the 14th yet?

Bayless might be like Terrell Owens?

I think I might have just changed my mind about him.

If that's the opening night starting lineup...

I’m definitely satisfied.

Good balance on both units.

As long as Roy is Roy

Oden’s outsized game and outlandish personality won’t win everyone over away from Roy.

I always figured everyone here would love both, with Roy being the favorite in Portland and Oden being the face of the franchise (and the most loved) nationally, and even internationally.

Oden will become like Shaq except cooler. And not prone to go to LA.

That speculation about "winning over" Portlanders is silly

My mother didn’t follow sports at all, but always admired Clyde Drexler, who didn’t have the sort of outgoing personality that this theory supposes is the key to attracting interest from all corners. Trust me-people from all over Oregon are going to be big fans of the whole team-I’ve been through this in the late 70s and the late 80s, when I knew plenty of casual fans in Eastern Oregon who’d rave about the key guys off the bench, let alone someone with the talent and charisma of Brandon Roy.

No he said Bayless feels he didn't shoot welll and Bayless is dissapointed.

Quick sounded impressed to me

At least with the Dunks and tear drops and said Bayless looked like an NBA player. I doubt Quick is too worried by Bayless’s shot, because Bayless was a good shooter in college. A slow release might be a problem, but given his short arms he could develop a very compact and quick release with some work . But this was based from today’s practice and last night’s comments might have been based on something else. Anyway, Quick now sounds more convinced about Bayless than the pessimistic comments last night lead us to believe.

Yes, with his extremely short arms

the nerve impulses must just race from brain to fingertips. We’ll have to call him Quickdraw Bayleaf.

Upon Review

I don’t know how much more of a complement you could give a guard than to compare him to Brandon Roy, but Quick went there and I’m now even more excited.

Just when I couldn;t possibly fit any more love into my heart for Kevin Pritchard

he goes and signs Batum. I was always under the impression that Batum would be marinating in France while he gains 100 lbs and starts capitalizing on some of that upside, but darn- it KP just had to sign him, and now im gonna be day dreaming of that 88 all day every day … *sigh, when I said i heart Kevin I had no idea that he hearts me too.

Just don’t get played. I’ve heard that Batum has been quoted saying, “I don’t want to be a player no more… but it pays so…”

can you please provide a link to that quote.. or perhaps even the context ? Common, I highly doubt KP would sign someone that doesn’t want to be a player and is just out for the money. That kind of thing is what KP specializes, NOT signing players that have character issues…

See PippenAintEasy’s post below. And is bein’ a ladies man a character issue?

Oh and I don’t have a link, but I heard it from a reliable guy my uncle’s cousin’s former roomate knew. So I’m sure it’s true. ;)
