Welcome Rudy! Still need a vetran PG
Baron, Baron, Baron!!!!
Now that Rudy is onboard, he will fill the 2nd unit scorer role. That makes Travis expendable. His stock will never be higher. Baron wants out at GS. Blazers need to thin the roster, big time.
Travis, Pryz, and #13 will get Baron or any other top-flite point guard on the market.
Why don't people talk about Pryz for trade bait? GS and many others need big man shoes. Deal closer.
Starters:
Oden, Aldridge, Webster (yes!), Roy, Baron.
2nd unit
Frye, McRoberts, Jones, Rudy, Blake.

Trading Przy...
People don’t talk about it because we may need him more than anyone. Oden cannot be our only big, because he’s going to have to learn the NBA game, and he’s going to be in foul trouble, and what happens if he goes down? We’re going to lean on Frye and McBob? Give me a break. It would be near lunacy to trade Joel, especially for a point-guard like Baron who I don’t think would fit this team or our window at all.
As it stands now, it’s going to be really hard for opposing teams to beat us in the post. Having Joel back up Oden is sheer awesomeness.

Also
How is Oden going to get better in practice if he is banging with Frye and Reaf? Having Przy speeds up Oden’s learning curve, so no to any trades including the Vanilla Gorilla.

I have to agree
Having Frye as our backup center probably isn’t the best idea since Frye showed he’s not very effective playing center. On top of that Pryz really does fit into the fast-paced, play no defense style of the Warriors.

Trade Pryz?
No way! 1st Pryz has the more heart then any player on our team, second he wants to be in Portland which is why he took less money to re-sign here, and third you will be hard pressed to find any other player in the NBA who is willing to go toe to toe with Shaq, Oden may be good but he aint all that just yet, however if you give Oden time to learn under the Vanilla Gorilla’s guidance he will be the biggest beast in the NBA.

Not to mention how unfair it would be to Joel
I suggest the character issue goes both ways on the PTB…. that is we have class players and class management.
Kevin Pritchard knows the value of both Joel and Blake. KP made every effort to bring back Blake after the trade to Milwaukee when whatshisface was calling the shots. He didnt have to work so hard to keep Joel around, but Sarbonis hit the nail squarely on the head when he said the idea of trading Travis is pure lunacy… I meant Blake… uh…I meant Joel.

KP can’t preach chemistry and culture to the players then throw them under the bus. Everyone know trades happen to improve the team, but it would be ridiculous to trade the founding fathers of the chemistry and culture movement.

Draft Augustine PG problem solved
From ESPN: So while some fans are worried that Augustin is only 5-foot-10 in socks, that’s not the key for NBA front offices. They want more info. What is his wingspan? What is his standing reach? How explosive is he athletically? All of those variables factor into the equation.
In Augustin’s case, he measures out as a legitimate point guard prospect with a standing reach that exceeds Chris Paul’s by an inch and a half and matches Mike Conley’s and Jordan Farmar’s. I did speak with one executive who thought Augustin would fall because of his measurements. Remember, both Paul and Conley went No. 4 in the draft.

Baron is not the answer
He’s injury prone and a little too old for our timetable. Plus, he’s going to want a huge contract and we can’t have 3 guys bringing in (near) max money (Oden, Roy, Davis) and 2 more bringing in almost as much (LA and Rudy, after his rookie contract is up).

Would we be able to package #13 plus our three second rounders to move up into the top 6/7? That would prolly get us high enough to take either westbrook/augustin…

Frankly, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a worse trade suggestion on this site. It would make Pritch look like Isiah, for heavens sake. How embarassing.

Have we officially exhausted all the trade possibilities now?
Are we back to Baron Davis again? If there is a point guard in this league who is available, then he probably is not good enough to be our long term starter. Either that, or there is so much baggage coming with that player that Blazer fans will cry themselves to sleep for years after picking the guy up.
Unless the perfect deal falls into our laps, I say trade no one this summer. Let’s see who works with whom. A deal needs to be stupendous for us to take it. Anything short of that is likely to be a big mistake.

Except...
Baron might actually be good enough to win us a championships (or two) in the next couple years.
Remember when Steve Nash came to Phoenix? He was thirty with a bunch of injury concerns. Was that a bad move by the Suns? Would they have been better off without Nash? Of course not. How did Steve Nash fit into the Sun’s time line? Amare Staudemire was only in his second season. Roy and Aldridge will be in their third. If anything, Davis is a better fit for the Blazers than Nash was for the Suns.
Is Baron Davis perfect? No.
Will he stay healthy? Maybe, he started all 82 games last year.
The point is, it seems silly that you would scoff at the idea of trading for the third best PG in the west, even if he is thirty years old.
If somebody hits you with an object you should beat the hell out of them.-Charles Barkley
by Winchester on Jun 7, 2008 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
it thinks it a completely different situation
Steve Nash came to phoenix and ran an offense that made sense for the suns. They already has Marion and Amare, two guys that excel in a running game. Adding Nash made perfect sense. Baron Davis on the other hand doesn’t really fit the Blazers game style. He might improve the team, but I think that there is an equal chance that he would ruin our chemistry and force the blazers to change their style.
In conclusion: Steve Nash and the Suns = Apples, Baron David and the Blazers = Oranges, you just can’t compare then.

he may run half-court set for Charlotte don't recall, but
what I am saying is that he going to need to throw up a lot of shots in order to score his 20pts a game. He would become the focus of the team on offense, moving that focus from Brandon. Basically he would make us change the way we play whether it’s switching to run and gun or him running half-court sets. He’s the new focus either way. I want any point guard we get to allow Brandon to continue to be the focus. This may be a case where we want different things from a starting point guard.

Yeah,
it’s hard to go wrong with Davis, but there are probably 15 different point guards that would do great on this team. KP can take his time and get the best deal available. Isn’t it crazy that our team is so deep that it hurts to even think about trading our role players? If Dumars blows up the Pistons next season and the Blazers get a top notch PG, we could very well have the best starting five in the league.

Third best point guard?
Maybe on the days he cares. But those days are further between than I would like. His attitude reminds me of Rasheed’s, and not in a good way. He has the need to be the man, and that is the last thing we need right now.

I just realized that two of my statements contradict each other.
His attitude resembles Rasheed’s in that he does not give it his all every game.
Unlike Rasheed, though, he thinks he needs to be the guy. And at Golden State, he is, so it works out well for him there. I doubt highly it would work out the same here at all.
I hope that clears up any confusion I have caused.

The Raps need a borderline Allstar or an Allstar player to play with Bosh. Having said that, the only players on that list that Id want would be Okafor, Howard or Outlaw and perhaps Kaman.

i’m just barely in the other camp on this one. I think I would rather be descustingly dominate(Oden, Pryz, Lma, sort of a decline from there) at the rim, off, and dee(pryz dont count for off) then really competative all over. I think even with out Paul, nash, daren, baron, ect, our point, whoever it is will look good just becouse of how much easier his life will be with go and la’s inside outside and pick and roll, webster hitting, and roy and rudy slashing, creating, and just acting allstarish. this IS all dependant that our point isn’t dribbaling off his foot or leaving the court with the ball.
/eyes closed doing that whole cross thingy
I actually want nash btw, but not enough to look in on what it would take to get him

first of all, I agree with both your points: Frye would fit great with the Raptors’ attack and he and Pryz plus something else might be enough to land us Calderon, but I wouldn’t do that neither. Everything for the Raptors is shaping up . . .
. . . in the direction of keep-Calderon/trade-Ford.
Which proves nothing but their basic sanity.
It’s nice to think about Calderon, but Ford-as-Raptors-starter is the only reason JosĂ© could be available,
and it’s nowhere NEAR reason enough – you know it, I know it, and (most importantly) Toronto knows it, fans AND team.
Calderon stays.
What happens to Ford is the only relevant discussion re: a Raptors point guard.

He's doing it, man.
They’re openly shopping Ford.
Just because they don’t have a taker yet doesn’t mean they’re not set on it.
Trades come easier around draft day and the free agent signing period.
And Ford’s semi-exorbitant contract (paid like a starter, but not an all-star or anything)
just makes the process harder, but CP3 has really made the NBA more point-craving.
Expect all the point-needy teams who pick after Rose, Augustin, Westbrook, and Mayo are off the board
to come begging Toronto; they’ll all want Calderon, but someone will settle for Ford.
It’s happening.

Trading Pryzbilla...
makes the Blazers the same team as last year: one legit center with problems on defensive boards and with penetrating guards when he goes out of the game. Joel and Greg give the Blazers much needed depth at the center position and will be the answer to this constant struggle last year. It also frees LMA to play against PFs almost exclusively instead of matching up against centers for half of the game.
Joel is the one guy not named Brandon, Lamarcus or Greg that the Blazers should not consider trading unless a name like Lebron is involved in the trade.

Perhaps...
But, it seems like there’s a very good chance that the Blazers take a pick late in the first round… where there are some decent defensive center prospects, incluing Brook Lopez, Javale McGee, Roy Hibbert, Alexis Ajinca, and Marreese Speights.
In addition, the Blazers should be able to play more Greg More minutes than they played Pryz. I think refusing to trade Pryz if the right offer presented itself would be a mistake.

I see Joel and Blake sticking for a while
They seem like the role players we need that aren’t going to make waves with 17 minutes one night and 30 the next. They have proven what they can bring to a game over the course of their careers and they will produce in both situations. Waiting to see if draft picks pan out and turn into Joel and Blake seems like a step backward to me.
That said, if it is a deal for a player that makes us all go “duh, why didn’t we think of that.” Joel and Blake are tradeable.

Agreed.
I’ve already said something to that effect on Joel in this thread, but I gotta add agreement on Blake.
Until we find a better starter, he’s our starter; neither JJ nor Sergio have what it takes to beat him out.
And if we DO find a superior starter, Blake becomes THE backup point guard;
it’s JJ and/or Sergio that would lose their job to an incoming point stud, not Blake.
The only thing that would get in the way of that is his price, which is higher than JJ or Sergio;
Blake has a team option for 08/09 and 09/10 of over $5mil each season.
And I don’t really see PA taking the option of keep-the-inferior-backup-because-he’s-cheaper,
which is the only thing (combined with us finding a better starter) that would cause us
to jettison Blake while retaining JJ and/or Sergio as our second-best point guard.
Still, until we hear news about the team picking up Blake’s option (the deadline is after the end of next season),
the will-we-keep-Blake-beyond-next-season thingy will be hanging out there.

I’m sad to say but I believe the Finland kid will need another year of serious competition before he’ll be ready to move over here. He’s bulked up some, and that will help, but he still needs some time to ripen on the vine.

Przy's contract is reportedly up in the 2011 offseason.
If Freeland is, what, 22? 23? years old and has 3 ACB years under his belt in 2011,
he’ll be EXACTLY perfectly ready to join us and share time with Przy at first, on his way to replacing him.
THAT’S how the timing lines up on the Joels, and it’s quite nice.
Even our BACKUPS have understudies.

I’m not sold on this Freeland kid.

Dont Ever speak of tradiing Thrila
He is a MUST behind Oden. Why?
1. He has vet. knowledge from years in tha league. He is important 2 teaching Greg the ins and outs of the trade. Trainers can only give u so much.
2. He is a beaast defensively and we OBVIOUSLY need that on the 2nd unit. Frye is not an option as back up center. That is never ever gonna work. I like Frye he’s a nice guy, likes portland and all that hype, but it doesn’t make up 4 the fact that my Grandma who is 4’11 and an immigrant from italy can play better D than him.
3. I heart him.

Add...
I want Oden playing ball next year. Key word, PLAYING. That’s how you learn. He needs to not worry about fouls and fouling out or anything else. Zilla behind him gives him freedom to learn. I agree with those who put Zilla fourth on our do not trade list.

There's a lot of people on my do not trade list.
Actually, my okay to trade list is much shorter.

My "it's-ok-to-trade" list:
Von Wafer
My keep list:
All others, especially our crew of sweat wipers. Trading them might mess up our chemistry.

He looks like he can score,
but I think at this point he’s just an asset to make trades work. Maybe he’ll prove us wrong in summer league.

I don't know about that.
I hear Toronto’s backup sweat wiper has the potential to be a real star.
The main sweat wiper was out for three weeks in February with Stinky-FARTS
(Stinky Fingers And Rank Towels Syndrome), and the backup just KILLED it.
Seven times, he had the Raptors halfcourt dry before the other team was even across the timeline;
that’s not just a rookie record, that’s twice the league average for all starters in 07-08!
I even hear that the Clippers are looking at a sweat wiper from USUK (University of South Utah – Kingdomtown)
with their second-round pick; we might want to use the 36th pick on that guy.
I hear he has sick wingspan (can wipe the entire paint from one position) and tremendous upside.

If they're always bent over wiping up sweat
wouldn’t it be better to have a tremendous backside than upside? Ala Jarrett Jack?
