Going after Prince

I was reading an article in the Oregonian the other day about Flip getting the ax and Joe Dumars saying that nobody on the roster is untouchable. Ever sine I finished it I haven't been able to stop drooling about the *slim* possability of aquiring Prince from the Pistons. I'm fairly ignorant as to hthe salary implications as my cell phone internet won't let me use trade machine, but I'd happily trade Web, Channing, Jack, and/or the 13th pick to get him in Red and black. He IS the answer to a lot of problems we face at small forward. He's an incredible defender shoots the 3 very well has good handles and doesn't have a selfish attitude on offense but he can take over the game if he has to. What do you guys think?

Its gonna take more

than what you suggested to get prince. At a minimum, it would take Outlaw, the #13 and a future #1

More than that

As a homer, we always over value our players.. (although i know you love him) Trout is a solid piece on a contender but Prince has a chance to be a perennial all-star

Ithink your right

i have always liked prince, and he would fit perfectly with what we have hear. he is a support player, but could be the main guy if he had to. I would not be mad if I found him on the roster.

I think Prince is a guy

I would trade Trout for….one of the few. He is also a guy I wasn’t too impressed with on the college level…..but that is not unusual. I always feel that college kids are overvalued.

Crazy, I was just thinking about trying to get Prince

I think he would fit in Portland very nicely. I would give up any combination of #13, Webster, Outlaw, Jack, Sergio, or Frye. Even that may not be enough.

He’s a great ball handler and perfect post passer to Oden and Aldridge. He can create and initiate the offense too. Having a third ball handler and passer would be killer for a team with outside shooting and interior offense like the Blazers.

His defense would complement our interior D with his length and defensive rotations.

I hope KP is looking into this.

I would love to have him

but the problem is I doubt Detroit moves him for 4 rotation guys. The don’t really need to get deeper, they need to get younger. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind KP making a few call of inquiry, though.

Our guys are young.

Maybe they should give some of their rotation guys for ours.

Prince aka. The Artist

Has game. Didn’t you see him play on Chappele’s show? It was a shirts vs. blouses game. MAN I miss that show. That was some funny stuff.

Would you give up Joel, Travis and #13? I think we’re getting close at that point.

by kennetha on Jun 6, 2008 7:10 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

You know what's kinda amazing?

No one on the Pistons has a bad contract. Their starters get paid well but they’ve all more or less earned that money. They don’t have an overpaid benchwarmer. Maybe McDyess could qualify because he is getting old and is their least useful starter.

If Sheed would take

I would do that too

but I would see if Detroit would accept Martell instead. We would be a little thin in the frontcourt, so I would want Outlaw at the 4 and Frye at the 5 in the 2nd unit.

no no

keep Joel. who would back up Greg at center? if the Blazers traded Travis and Joel, then Channing would play backup 4 and who would play backup 5? or Channing would play backup 5 and who would back up LaMarcus at 4? Martell? James?

no way

Joel Pryzbilla, Travis Outlaw and #13 for Tayshawn Prince? Im sure Bob Whitsett woulda pulled the trigger. Thank goodness the PTB rely on KP to make their decisions. I see Joel as untradable as Travis.

as untradable

we all know, that Travis is not getting traded. I say the same for Pryz. Oden needs a back up not just because of his penchant for amassing personal fouls, but what if Oden isnt 100% (knock on wood)? The PTB won 41 games last year and how many would they have won without Joel.

Two Princes

I’d love to get Prince the musician to suit up in the Black and Red. Beyond the usual associated awesomeness, there’s always the “Game.. Blouses” Chappelle skit!

I think Prince the Piston would be about the toughest to snag, however. I’d be totally pumped, but he’s def the youngest starter (according to my hunch and 0 minutes of research), and if Detroit’s looking to blow it up he’d be among the last to go, right?

yea, i can see him being the perfect vet presence for the team for the next five years

When we’re feared wc contenders (hopefully within two-three years), I could see prince being the derek fisher type of guy on this team…a veteran presence that leads quietly….(I apologize to having to include the lakers in this analogy).

Prince the Musician?

If so, I wholeheartedly agree.

Another reason to get Prince

We could refer to him as “The Artist formerly known as Tayshaun”. Plus he can really play!

I really like the concept

but I don’t think it’ll be possible to get him. Prince as the starting 3 would be a great fit. He’s been content with being a 3rd or 4th option for Detroit, so why not in Portland. He’s got playoff experience oozing from every pore. He’s a solid defender and shooter, including the 3 ball. He’s got ballhandling ability and some decent post moves.

I think it would take Frye, Outlaw and the 13th pick at a minimum. Maybe another player and a future first rounder too.

His contract is through 2010-2011 which works with the contracts of the big 3. He’s got a lot of games played in 6 years due to going to (at least) the conference finals every year, but his game isn’t based on athleticism so he should hold up toward the end of his contract

Puns are the recourse of geniuses.

Buns are instead a baked good.
Funs is a poorly pluralized form of fun.
Guns are a politically charged, but highly effective method of preventing crimes against one’s person.
Huns are a semi-nomadic people once governed by Attilla.
Nuns are TominHawaii’s favorite subject.
Runs are no fun at all.
Suns are the basketball team in Phoenix.

I’m not sure any of the others are words, but have funs with puns anyways.

What a great pickup that would be

We would be so so solid and it’s the playoff experience that we lack that would really set him apart as an asset. Come on Dumars, be nice, your in the east, you don’t really need him.

Hang on everyone, we're "Red Hot and Rollin'" again!

by ORcoastAK on Jun 6, 2008 9:54 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Might not take as much as you think

to get Prince. I don’t know how salaries match up, but I wouldn’t be surprised if #13, Outlaw, Jack, one of the early second rounders and some cash is enough to get Prince. I wouldn’t even mind throwing in a future 1st rounder, like in 2010. By that time our picks will be in the 20s and not worth much anyway.

by DrivetheLane on Jun 7, 2008 12:01 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

He's ugly and wears that dumb mask, we don't need him

Outlaw will fill the role Prince fills with Detroit. He’d be an upgrade for two years then we’d all be mad that his ugly face was in a Blazers uniform while the guys we traded for him were kicking butt and taking name for another team.

As you know, Mr. Hawaii 5-O

Rip Hamilton is the one that wears the mask, not Tayshaun Prince. As usual, you are feigning ignorance in order to make snarky remarks and indulge your off-beat sense of humor.

We are hip to your tricks. So you can go back to your reruns of Hawaii 5-O and your efforts to purchase Jack Lord memorabilia on EBay.

Oh Snap

He’s still ugly. I don’t know how I mixed that up, I’ll chalk it up to not caring. I know Rip wears the mask. I don’t want to make excuses, I’ll take responsibility for my error.

You know what’s nuts about Jack Lord? There is a bust of him by the mall near my house and people put fresh leis on it all the time. Leis are expensive, I don’t know why folks waste their money on a statue of that dude.

Coma splice!

I respectfully disagree

While there may be no way to get Prince without giving up too much or any way to get him at all, I don’t think that Outlaw will become the Prince of this team. I’m not saying that Outlaw won’t improve, but I don’t see his game becoming like that of Mr. Prince. I don’t think Outlaw will become a defensive stalwart, nor will his defensive game be as controlled and mistake free as Prince’s game. Outlaw may become an offensive upgrade over Prince, however.

I agree

I’ve moved beyond stats with this team, and now it is all about chemistry. Since I make up so much crap here: I have to find at least one similarity, to make a comparison. I like to leave the similarities up for grabs.

but he is so skinny. I seriously wonder how he even lifts the ball obove his head with those pipes. He makes Rudy look quite buff. It would be nice to get another defenseive SF not named Ruben.
