I loved it!!

Did you ever see the movie “That Thing You Do”? There is a scene where Tom Hanks tells the drummer that he is “The Smart One”. Well guess what? Gavin is the talent, but you are are “The Smart One” . And Casey? Well someone has to come in 3rd. LoL …just kidding Lance

PS You guys aren’t the one hit “Wonders”

Thanks

In my defense, I’m the only person on the podcast who has to answer to someone for what I say. I may very well be the least intelligent, but consider that maybe I don’t always get to express everything that I know.

by Lance Uppercut on Jun 6, 2008 11:04 AM PDT up reply actions

Uh oh...I feel another Travis Outlaw stigma coming on

But even though I’m sure 92’s comment was meant as a teasing-type joke, I’ll say this seriously:

Casey always gets underrated because he doesn’t grandstand or make an ass of himself. Yet when the Blazers themselves wanted someone to head their online projects, who did they call? Wasn’t me.

I’ve sat next to the guy being interviewed and talked with him a bunch. I am pretty comfortable saying that he is one of the two or three best media-type people on the planet as far as knowing his Blazers stuff inside and out. He also has a wicked sense of humor which doesn’t come out overtly when he’s “on stage” working but if you listen to two or three of his podcasts you begin to pick up on it and consume it like potato chips.

I am firmly convinced that THE signature job for Casey would be television sideline reporter. I mean no disrespect to Rebecca Haarlow by saying that, but Casey would be a complete natural in that position. How many times do you see sideline reporters hired who have no connection with the team or history with the community really? Casey knows his stuff, can get the story, would be funny as hell, and he is COMPLETELY Portland in that “hey…this is a little different” kind of way. If and when the need ever arises I think Blazer Broadcasting should consider him.

That’s how I feel anyway.

Totally teasing

I have been listening to Casey’s poscasts since I discovered them …always great stuff. When I started that post I just intended to say that Dave sounded smart and it reminded me of that movie. Also my impulse control re smart ass comments is poor…(it’s a wonder I still have a job since I interact with the bigwigs at my company a lot). Anyway….I just want Casey to know I was totally not serious. Keep up the good work…all of you.

I agree

Dave is smarter than than I regarding all things, including the Trail Blazers. Of that, there can be no argument.

Haven't listened yet

But I am very happy to have a great Blazer show to listen to, and very thankful.

I noticed this one is 45 minutes, which makes me happy too. Make them as long as ya want.

I was just going to walk my dog and listen to this podcast. I didn’t notice the time. Thanks for pointing that out. Now I gotta put on sunblock and revise my route.

Dave,

I just listened to the podcast and I wanted to thank you and Casey for defending my darling boy Travis so valiantly and so well. I think your comments went a long way in dispelling the misconception that Travis is unintelligent. It just annoys me to no end when people who don’t know him at all, and don’t have the perspicacity to see the intelligence in his face, call him names that shouldn’t be applied to anyone. #25

I second the motion

You and Dave gave us a glimpse into Travis’ personality as well. He seems more special to me now than before I heard what y’all had to say about him. But Ann, I don’t think anyone has called Travis names. Even Dave agreed that the criticisms of his basketball IQ were valid. He still has more to learn.

My heart went out to Travis when you guys were talking about what it must have been like for a shy kid from the south to join the Jailblazer locker room. Travis, like us fans, has been through a lot, no doubt.

Speaking of BBIQ, I also want to commend all three of you for the intelligent and informative analyses and opinions you expressed. I learned a lot. Great work!

Very nice

I have not had good BBQ or Mexican food in 2 years.

Coincidentally, we're having babyback ribs

slathered in barbecue sauce tomorrow for dinner. Two years without BBQ or Mex? Which island are you on, Niihau?

I read somewhere once that the average 50-year-old American male has five pounds of partially-digested meat in his intestines. No wonder I can’t dunk!

I've had Mexican food here

It’s just not that good. The only BBQ here is Korean BBQ which really isn’t BBQ.

Well Animal, maybe "names" was the wrong term to use. And I certainly wasn't pointing to you or anything.

I don’t want to go through all the posts from the last year or so but there are posts where people use words like “dumb” and it’s not in reference to his bbIQ. I realize I get a little impassioned when it comes to Travis but he’s not here to defend himself. And, in fact, Travis probably wouldn’t defend himself over that stuff. He’d probably just shrug his shoulders and walk away muttering to himself, “He cain’t hep it. He jes ignorant. I cain talk jes fine” Maybe that’s what I should do, shrug my shoulders and walk metaphorically away. I’m glad you love the lil guy too.

If so, shame on them

Some folks like to make fun of folks from the South, dismissing them as a bunch of hicks and rednecks. The Internet is replete with jokes about it. I delete garbage like that whenever it hits my In box.

Don’t worry Ann, I didn’t think you were pointing to me. I just didn’t see anyone in this thread calling Travis names and I don’t recall any instances in other threads where that occurred, but knowing what a crush you have on Travis, I’m sure you would have noticed anyone dissing your man-child.

Blazers coaches and management deserve a ton of credit for sticking with Travis and finding the key to helping him learn the game. This is an amazingly competent team. What a turnaround from a few years ago!

Did anyone in those workout videos stand out to any body?

I thought that Giorgi Shermadini has some pretty nifty spin moves.

"The next day in practice, if you sweat, it's going to come out of your pores, regardless. If you ask any coach around the league how many times they have smelled liquor on a player . . . As long as that player is showing up on time, doing the drills and running, that's part of it. But there have been times, yeah. Yeah, you probably smelled liquor on me. But it's not like I'm at practice drunk. I'm totally focused."

Hah

Agreed with a lot of the stuff Dave had to say.

Especially in regards with Trout and his spot up jumper.

Also what Gavin Dawson/Casey Holodohl said about acquiring a player like Chauncey Billups, As long as Oden is as good as he has been advertised we will be competing for a championship 2009-2010. Next year we are going to the playoffs, and we have the talent to get to the 2nd or 3rd round. Our team is so stacked.

Boston coach Doc Rivers said he was surprised by the firing of Saunders.
"I don't understand it," Rivers said. "It makes coaching not fun."

Don't forget Rodney Stuckey

he would be a great addition to this team if Detroit wanted to trade him

Woof

by Charles Barkley McLovin on Jun 6, 2008 5:17 PM PDT reply actions

It'd be nice

But Dumars has been really high on Stuckey since he drafted him. Dumars is a frequent guest on Chad Ford’s podcasts, and it’s clear he thinks Stuckey is the bee’s knees, the cat’s pajamas, the greatest thing since sliced bread, the honey to his comb, the oat to his meal, the cookie to his crisp.

Dumars likes him too much to trade him.

Sweet

All the sexual tension on that podcast gives it a real dirty sound. Kind of like a rusty steak knife cutting through, a well aged steak.

Question:

How far did you have to carry the dog to get the full 45mins in?

15 Minutes

He’s good for 45 in the dark but only 30 in the sun. He’ll do huge hikes too. It’s the hot blacktop that gets him. If I walk him at 3:00 PM HST, he walks under all the shade and tries to take a rest under everyones carport.
