Most Embarrassing

I just figured out how to do this but I thought of a question I thought I should ask and I figured I'd try and get everybody to eat some humble pie so I'm not the only one with my mouth full. Anyway I was wondering if anybody wanted to say what the most embarrassing prediction they ever made was. I already said mine but I'll put it here too.

I read this article about how all these community college and like small college players were going to be like the next superstars in the L, and they profiled some of em and they were all supposed to revolutionize the game. Anyway come draft night and the Trailblazers took one of em and I was stoked. I called all my friends and let em know the next superstar in the NBA was going to be Qyntel Woods and they could write it down. Man I still take serious damage for that from all my friends.

So if you think your brave enough go ahead and let me know what awful predictions you made too. And just so everyone knows I'm so glad this thing has a spell check because I don't even think you could of read this without it.

Also hard to write without swearing but probably good practice anyway.

Speaking of the 'stache....

One wonders how much of him we’ll see next year. If at all. Last I’ve heard is that the Robertcats expect Morrison to be recovered from his ACL tear and in training camp this fall. Whether he’ll crack the rotation-let alone the roster-remains to be seen.

I thought Q. Woods would be what Travis is now….an athletic guy who occasionally comes up big. A guy who could light it up off the bench.

Unfortunately, he chose to light up grass rather than lighting up the night with his game.

I actually called Kwame Brown being a flop that year,

but I totally bombed in calling Brendan Haywood the steal of the draft. I predicted him to be a top 5 center in the league for years to come. Whoops.

Let’s see, who else?
2002 draft—-I thought Chris Wilcox was going to be a beast…whoops.

2003 draft—-I’m famous within my circle of basketball buddies for calling DWade as the best player in the draft. I said he would be better than Bron, and even though he isn’t, he did get a ring first. I ridiculed Detroit for taking Darko as well, so I really did well with this draft. I said Bosh would be KG within three years…so that was a little off.

2004 draft—-I called Dwight Howard over Emeka. But ehh…I thought ‘Bassy and Shaun Livingston were the future of the NBA. Oops.

2005 draft—-I correctly identified that Bogut and Marvin Williams would be busts, but I goofed in saying that Deron Williams would be a benchwarmer by his third year. I compared him to Damon Stoudamire, except with more drug problems. Hmm…guess I goofed there.
I also thought that Martell would be Kobe within three years, and that Salim Stoudamire would be the steal of the draft.

2006 draft—I knew LMA was better than Tyrus Thomas. I also predicted Barnagni would be a flop, but I incorrectly stated that Dee Brown at selection 46 would be a top tier point guard within three years.

2007 draft—I predicted Correy Brewer would give Durant and Oden a run for their money as Rookie of the Year. I predicted that Glenn Davis would be a mini Zach Randolph by his third year, averaging 15 and 8. I also predicted that Tarean Green would be a solid starting point guard.

Those are probably where I’ve erred the most in my predictions…just don’t tell anyone on my staff.

Not bad, but I disagree with Bogut being a bust.

He’s certainly a disappointment for a #1 overall pick, but is still a pretty decent player at a league-wide (save Orlando and of course us) weak position. I think he’s still in the top ten of that year’s draft.

I bought like…no like….8 boxes. In my second box I got a Chamique Holsclaw (sp? and yes, she’s a girl) autograph that I sold for like a 100 bucks, so I went way overboard buying a bunch more. It had the men’s and women’s teams, so that was kinda’ different, but I figured if in every pack I was getting a tim duncan or vince carter i couldn’t go wrong.

I’m guessing those cards are worth about .001 a piece currently…

I can't remember the mistakes.

Although I too thought Wilcox might turn out to be really good.

I do remember thinking Jared Jefferies was going to be a solid starter and maybe all – D team type of guy. And after watching him play during the season, I thought Khyrapa had a decent change to be AK-lite. (I still think he can play in the NBA.)

I also was against drafting Telfair from the start (although the guy I thought we should have taken – Kirk Snyder – hasn’t exactly set the league on fire. Ironically, they both now play for Minny) and wanted us to select Deron Williams instead of trading down. I guess I could take a bit of grief for arguing Williams was the better selection than Paul. (I’m stubborn and still would rather see Williams as a Blazer than Paul.)

I wanted Brandon Roy with the 4th pick. Was disappointed when we took Thomas and then in shock when I saw Pritchard pull his magic trick and turn the 4th pick in the draft into Aldridge and Roy.

I wanted webster over paul

because I thought we had our point guard situation taken care of.

He could pass but couldn’t hit crud…

Hmmm… I also rooted for Sergio because I saw him played and was AMAZED by his vision… I thought his shot would come but it’s only gotten worse.

ON the other hand…

We got Roy AND aldridge and those were the only two players I wanted (and sergio).
We got Oden AND Rudy and the only other guy I would have wanted was Durant (Yeah, I”m not greedy, but look at what we got the year before!!!)

Oden vs Durant, I would still take Oden (yeah, I know I rooted for durant, but where would be the fun without the debate? Too many people thought it should be Oden… because you’re all right.

Oh… and for four years I couldn’t believe that Zach could play. I still can’t believe he can play. I really don’t think he should be able to score and rebound like he does. Does not compute to me.

My only mistake (that I can remember)

I wasn’t following the Blazers as closely as now, but I liked Telfair and thought he would be a good PG. In fact, I still say he will be a good PG someday soon. He sure had a tough time in the beginning though…

His only good stretch was when KP was the coach: Bassy averaged 12 points, 6 or 7 assists, he played pretty well for a 19 year old rookie out of HS guard. Sadly, that was his peak as a Blazer.

(On a side note, if Sergio played that well people would be foaming until Nate started him)

Like I said, I still think Telfair will be good. Not an allstar, but a good scoring and assisting PG. I’m glad he found a home in Minny.

I was annoyed when we traded him for what was THEN Randy Foye, as I don’t like short scoring guards (and we had one of my least favorite players, Juan Dixon, reminding me every night why I hate short SGs who only shoot). When it turned into Roy, I was happy with it because Roy seemed like the yearly underrated ‘solid’ player who for whatever reason is perceived as not having enough upside (like Josh Howard, Danny Granger, or this year’s Brandon Rush). I was excited for the move when it turned into Roy and not Foye.

I also wanted either LMA or Bargnani (I woulda’ been fine with either, but preferred LMA because he was a big and I considered Bargnani a SF), and I think Bargnani will be decent too. Not as good as LMA, but decent. When we got Thomas, I was confused because he just didn’t seem to fit. Man, that was a fun draft to watch… so much wheeling and dealing, and when we were done we nearly had a new team.

Hanging around Blazers Edge has really helped my basketball watching, and from what I’ve learned from the many smart people here, I feel like I’m less likely, as a fan, to make huge mistakes with what players to like.

I think with Telfair, I just wanted him to be good and I enjoyed his flair and speed and fancy passes. The season he was drafted was also the year I started to follow the Blazers indepth again, and I couldn’t STAND Damon Stoudamire. So, I rooted for Telfair to be good and take his spot. He was just too young and shoulda’ gone to college.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he’ll still be good. Just was the wrong choice for us.

Ouch,

I didn’t know that until I read the wiki on KP

That summer, Pritchard advised then-Blazer general manager John Nash and president Steve Patterson to select Wake Forest guard Chris Paul with the #3 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, but was overruled; the Blazers traded the #3 pick to the Utah Jazz.

I think I’m done creating trade rumors. I’ll just kick back and wait for KP to trade McBob, Von Wafer, and an empty pizza box to Cleveland for Lebron and 2 future first round draft selections.
