Counting the ping-pong balls
This elevator is going DOWN.
With all of the excitement over whether Bayless will push aside Kopenen as the starting point guard and whether the Trailblazers will get past the Conference Finals in 2009, step back a minute and look at your crystal ball for this important prediction:
On lottery day 2009, which team will have the most ping-pong balls in the bowl?
The question is more complex than it may appear at first blush. You may think that Indiana and New Jersey, for instance, have set themselves on the path to future greatness, but in the 2008-09 season, those teams may have a critical piece missing, or the pieces already assembled may not yet mesh. So, confining your prognostication to just one season, who will have the very worst record in the NBA when the final game of the regular season concludes next spring? Please comment why you think your choice will be worse than next year's Clippers.

Hard to choose. Grizz are likely a solid choice too, and it’s always hard to predict the teams that end up sliding due to injury/chemistry/tankage or a combination of all of them.
In the end, I went with Seattle. Their draft pick is kind of a project to match up with their two young starters from last year, both of whom still have a ways to go as well. They still don’t have much stuff up front.
They’ll be fun to watch, and they’ll have nights when all their young guys are hitting on all cylinders. But start to finish, they aren’t ready to win yet.

"With all of the excitement over whether Bayless will push aside Kopenen as the starting point guard"
How does Bayless push him aside when Kopenen has never played for us?

Simple: Kopenen, drafted in 2007, is in line ahead of the 2008 draftee

Yeah...but Finland is well...Finnish
That makes Bayless 5 years early.

Sacto
- Trout wouldn’t be one of their 5 best players.
- Ron Artest shuts down Roy (I guess based on a game Roy barely played because he was sick and one were he had 21 points).
- John Salmons and Francisco Garcia are rising stars we wish we could have.
- We’ll have similar records next year.
This outrage has helped me turn into a Kings hater. Enjoy watching Shelden Williams and Spencer Hawes.

Well, we did play especially poorly against the Kings last year.

sounds
like your normal homerism. they are a bit high on some of their guys, but then again so are we.
Portland and Roy did not play very well against Sacto last year, especially on their court. 4 gms, 14.2 pts, 5.5 rebs, 6.0 asts, 39% shooting, so they can back that up a bit.
Hey, I’d like Garcia for sure. Every team has players other teams would like. You don’t think the Kinds would like having Roy, LMA, oden, Outlaw, Rudy, or even Frye, Blake or Pryzbilla. Of coure they would. How about Bayless? (oops, that last one might still sting a bit).
Hey, they have optimistic expectations about next year. Good for them. I think if you asked most “experts” around the country who will have a better record next year, my guess is it would be heavily skewed towards Portland. Tell them to check back next April.
Oh, and they shouldn’t forget – Artest can still opt out and go sign with the L*kers or another team. He’s been waffling of late.

I'd agree and disagree on various points.
Trout is not as good as their three best players (Martin, Artest, and Miller). However, I’d say he would definately compete for the title of fourth best player, even if someone else beats him out. There are candidates. I’d put Trout over Garcia, Salmons, Moore, Udrih, or whoever else they have in mind for number four.
I agree with Sacramento fans that Artest shut down Roy this past year. Artest and Bowen did the best job by far IMO. That’s a key reason why we lost 3 out of 4. However, Roy didn’t play well in the one game Artest didn’t play either. I guess he could have been just bad against Sacramento. Durant sucks on defense, and Roy sucked against Seattle. It may have been coincidental that Roy played poorly against Artest, though it certainly didn’t look like it.
I don’t think Salmons or Garcia are going to be stars. I like Roy, Fernandez, Webster, Trout, and Batum (I was pretty high on Batum before the draft) better than Salmons and Garcia. Therefore, the part “we wish we could have” is very untrue IMO.
Finally, I think we’ll be better than SacTown next season. This, along with everything else I’ve written, is fairly biased in favor of Portland though.

dude?
I read your coments, you showed up over there acting all arregant, saying things like, I dont meen to offend,( wich almost always prefaces an offensive coment) but all of you know that outlaw would be your teams second option, right? amungst other inflamitory coments. duh, now wonder they openly disrespected you, and comon, do you honestly think they dont have at least 2 players more valuable then outlaw?

I went back to find it, and it was much worse then I remember
The Blazers will win 50+ games next year. Unless Roy/Aldridge/Outlaw/Webster regress to their rookie forms and Oden freak injures himself again. No offense, but we have at least 3 guys more valuable than your best player. Our 6th man Outlaw would be your #2 guy. And no, I didn’t forget about such all-stars as francisco garcia and john salmons. But best of luck, I really liked the Kings during their 3 year heyday. And sorry about the condescending post from Blazer nation, but for the next 4 years when you’re in the lottery feel free to follow the Red and Black, the higher ratings might mean we could actually play in the finals.
siriously why was that nescary? do you blame them for getting riled, do you not understand there position, or were you looking for an oprotunity to kick some one you mispercieved that you had an advantage over?
ed note i sevirly boobood with the miller thing, i was thinking of someone else.
