Not Drafting Chris Paul = Best Blazer Move

Chris Paul is an amazing player. I don't think Bayless will be that good. Yet, I am very thankful we didn't draft Chris Paul.

Right now, our greatest asset appear to be Kevin Pritchard. His leadership has built a team and a culture that will be with us for years.

If Portland drafts Chris Paul, I don't know that Pritchard gets a shot at the GM job. Given the choice between Chris Paul and Pritchard, I'd take KP.

So that's why I think not drafting Chris Paul has turned out so well for the Blazers.

It wasn't at the time

Looking back on it of course we think it’s a good move.

Its hard to say

Since everything is causal, so not drafting Sam Bowie leads to _ leads to _ etc. You can’t look at it in a vaccuum, but certainly considering recent history, it’s not so bad.

Things are certainly looking pretty good around here. One question: How are we going to guard Chris Paul? Just stick Bayless on him ?

You wont guard CP3

Sure you can down his numbers a bit with some heavy defense but he’s the type of player who will score either way. What you do is guard his free dunk machine Chandler.

I wouldn’t worry, we have one of the most un-guardable guards ourself who always seems to get his numbers, even when he has the flu.

yeah

Don’t guard CP3, just guard everyone else. Make him beat you alone without his double digit assists.

Yeah

Basically there are 2 things you do against a player like Chris Paul

1. Slow the tempo. Grab all the defensive rebounds possible and get back in transition. You can minimize the havoc Chris Paul can wreck on your team if you make him work in the half court. The Blazers have better half-court options than the Hornets, and have an interior defense that will be effective against his penetration.

2. Run him off screens on offense. Our guards can all score so basically you make him work as hard as possible on offense to wear him down.

Over a 7 game series these tactics will beat the Hornets. Especially since they lack depth.

And

punish his team by having vastly superior players at every other position.

Also, substitute freely so he’s always playing against someone who is really fresh.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
