Trade thought after July 9
What if we traded Trout, Frye, Sergio and a #2 to Detroit for Prince. Would they take that?
I think I would have to do that trade on our end, I know some Blazer fans wouldn't want to do it, but in the long run that 5 time ECF experience should help. If we were able to substitute Diogu for Frye I would but I think that would lessen the possibilty of this happening.
Bayless/Blake/Koponen
Roy/Fernandez
Prince/Webster/Batum
LMA/Diogu/RLEC
Oden/Pryzbilla
Two extra spots.. who am I missing?

I'd rather do Webster then Outlaw
I’d like to keep Outlaw, he’s got serious defensive potential, plus he fits our team. I don’t see Webster working out in Portland.

So would I.
But would Detroit?

Serious defensive potential?
Well he might want to start developing it. I love Outlaw but defense has thus far been his worst or second worst area after boxing out for rebounds…

No, and here's why
I’m not in a rush to make huge changes in our roster. For two reasons
A. We drafted a bunch of rookies and who knows if they will ever amount to anything. Sure on paper we improved a lot because of the draft but let’s see what happens when we get on the court. I want the first half the season to evaluate our talent and then make moves based on how our team is functioning.
B. If a deal wasn’t made on draft day for Detroit that must mean Dumars didn’t like any offers. After all he’s the one saying “NO PLAYER IS SAFE (well except my man crush Stuckey). This decreases the chance that Detroit makes a move this summer, although it should still happen. If he makes a move he will probably trade for players that fit with Prince that without him (he’s younger, Billups and Rasheed are older). So we’d really have to blow him away with an offer here.
C. At the trade deadline Dumars will know if his team is going to make a serious push in the playoffs or they will have to do serious rebuilding. The price of Prince would drop, at that point we could probably get him for Martell+Digou, and draft picks/euros/Sergio, or some package including RLEC.
Boston coach Doc Rivers said he was surprised by the firing of Saunders.
"I don't understand it," Rivers said. "It makes coaching not fun."
by Dheepan on Jun 27, 2008 5:59 PM PDT 1 recs
I one hope the price would drop
But I cant say if I was dumars there is any chance in hell I take Martell and Diogu for an all star

Martell+Diogu+Sergio+Future 1sts+RLEC that's pretty enticing if your team is going nowhere

Its the future 1sts and RLEC
that are valuable. We WAY overvalue guys like Martell and Frye.
The rest of the league isnt quite as in love with them as we are.. we are like the opposite of Philly fans.. they hate all their players in all their sports irrationally.. we love every blazer irrationally.

No
This trade dumps our up and coming back up to LA. Now you have Diagu as the power forward if LA should go down for a long stretch. This is the year we find out if Trout is going to be the realest of deals or just good, And he’s Roy’s best friend. We want to build a team not mess with our teams heads. Sergio has a legit shot to be a great point guard. Most exiting player on the team for a reason… when he plays that is.
Hey I like Prince. Great, great player but the team as is has a better chance of challenging this year and in the future than your proposed team.
by Blazersaurus on Jun 27, 2008 6:14 PM PDT 0 recs
I think we overvalue Frye
I like him and all, but seriously he is a solid SECOND piece in the deal. Prince would be the starting SF, and Diogu is a servicable. backup

How do we value Frye?
Frye finished the season great, in both scoring and rebounding. Can he be that guy consistently?
At the moment (like Jack, Blake, Outlaw, Webster), he’s a guy who disappears and reappears from game to game. Maybe he’ll come in on fire next year and he’ll be a key player—who knows?

wasnt fry a lottery pick?
does he have any potential left? could he be a starter on another team? should we just assume that his carear is on the downslide? will he get better? doesnt he rebound better then LA?

If you wanna talk trades
How about Ike Diagu and Steve Blake for Eric Snow and J.J. Hendricks (and maybe 2011 first rounder)?
Blazers get the best locker room presences in the league and a good/cheap future role player for the scrapes of the Indiana trade and Blake, who probably will struggle to get minutes from the 2 super rookies who KP will want to develop as quick as possible. Snow teaches the tricks he has learn over his 20 or so year career, can help the team without taking away playing time, and his contract is expiring and leave the Blazers with more cap room for 2009. I think Cleveland would do this trade in a second (PG-Blake>PG-Bobbie, and Ike>Hickson, equals quality instant help for Lebron) so they should sweeten the pot with a 2011 first rounder (you know, the season after LeBron leaves them).
Or maybe Snow isn’t even in the league anymore and I don’t know what I’m talking about.

of course Snow is bad
But he has future coach written all over him and having him as an expiring contract would be good for locker room experience, if Blazers wanted a vet on the court than no, but if they wanted a vet for the locker room he would be a perfect fit.
But lets at least try to get the Cavs 2011 first round draft pick anyway we can.

in hindsight it would only work if Bayless was ready to take over now… I think the only good thing that came out of it try to trade for the Cavs 2011 first rounder.

Deng better than Prince
PPG 17.0 ........... 13.2
RPG 6.3 ............. 4.9
APG 2.5 .............. 3.3
SPG 0.9 .............. 0.5
BPG 0.5 .............. 0.4
FG% 0.479 ......... 0.448
FT% 0.770 ......... 0.768
3P% 0.364 ......... 0.363
MPG 33.8 ........... 32.9
Deng may be more available.
Chicago has to resolve Deng’s salary much the same as the Blazers will have to do next year with Webster and Fry.
Chicago has a surplus of talent at SF (Deng, Nocioni, & Sefolosha).
They need to add at PF and C.
Webster and Fry may be enough to get it done.

Doubt it
Deng is their best SF. They hate Nocioni, and I thought Sefolsha plays SG more than SF?

Doubt It
Sergio and the # 2 are throw—ins, and Frye’s a backup. Trout for Prince would be the focus, and I don’t think Dumars will pull the plug on that one. After all, Trout was the sixth man last year whereas Prince was a starter. This trade doesn’t give Dumars the ability to expect to get back to the championship given he doesn’t know if Outlaws really a starter at SF yet. And he certainly knows that Sergio was pushed down to the 5th start in the guard rotation – meaning we don’t have a lot of confidence in him either.
We have 10 solid players right now. Batum, Sergio, Koponen, Diogu and LaFrentz right now are the third team, as it were.
Frye can give us minutes both a C and PF, Webster/Outlaw need time to decide whose #1 (and Dumars knows that), and guard is set for now.
We can move anyone on the third team at anytime if we need to before February. And, we can make further decisions on Webster/Outlaw as well after we see another 40-50 games. And, we’ll have the cap space ready to be dealt as well as the 4#2’s. I’d book money that other, perhaps, than a little tinkering, that we’re set until February.

Prince brings us everything that we are lacking
Blazers Needs Checklist
Prince
Veteran with Playoff experience- Check, Check
Comes from winning background-Check
Lock down wing defender- Check
Can play without the ball-Check
Can handle the ball-Check
Can run fastbreak-Check
Can finish fastbreak-Check
Durable-Check
Plays within himself-Check
Team First Attitude-Check
Intangibles- Timely blocked shots, creates mismatches, doesn’t give up on plays, very cerebral player
Definitely keep Martell, we will not need Outlaw with Prince .Batum or Webster can fill in
in 3-4 years when Prince starts slowing down. We are going to have to have a sharpshooter to spread the floor and Martell will fit the bill perfectly as he continues to gain confidence.
Can you imagine the length and athleticism of a Bayless, Roy, Prince, LA, Oden lineup? That can be a devestating defensive squad as well as offensive.
The 2nd lineup with Blake, Rudy, Martell, Diogu and Pryz….........And working Batum in their somewhere. Nice.
I'm a little confused by your tactics
by oderiferous emanations 74 on Jun 28, 2008 11:47 AM PDT 0 recs
If we had Prince...
I would move our first championship of the New Era from next year up to TOMORROW. That is how good we’d be.
It might suck kinda, because then I wouldn’t have an excuse to watch the games… I’d know we won. It would be pure basketeering masturbation to watch Blazer games then, because the thrill of competition would be missing. It’ll be like a Harlem Globetrotters game.
