What is a veteran? Poll.
I have seen on this site and several others that the Blazers need a veteran. What exactly is the definition of this so-called veteran? Just getting a veteran to have one is a mistake. I think the question is about getting a good veteran that has been a part of winning teams. Someone mentioned it here before concerning James Posey being the next Robert Horry...I agree with that. Having someone around that is always prepared, knows where to be, plays decent and tough defense, not afraid to take huge shots, and (for the most part) leaves their ego behind to better the team. I would 100% agree that the Blazers will need someone of that caliber in the future. All of the teams Posey and Horry have played with had veteran superstars on their teams (Shaq, Kobe, Shaq again, Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, KG, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce), and they became the complimentary player...the cherry on top. It seems the Blazers have to develop their future superstars, and then bring in that complimentary piece. I think Posey may be a decent choice, but having Posey come in now may be a disaster. As far as having players help coach and teach the younger players, the Blazers have some veterans that have been around the league and some home-grown veterans as well.

Okay, I picked Lisa because she's my favorite Simpson.
But I suppose to answer the question, the ideal veteran for a young and rising squad would have to be a Marge/Posey type. I don’t think the team needs an older mentoring type on the downhill slide. They get all that sort of mentoring from the coaching staff.
That said, I agree with you that we already have some vets here. I would call four years a tour of duty. What we don’t have is a veteran of the playoffs, unless maybe you could count Rudy. True, I know he’s an NBA rookie but all his Euro playoff experience may translate well here. I think he’ll rise to the occasion, and our young guns will look at him and be inspired.
To make my point shorter, I would rather go out and get another Lisa/Roy type and watch him grow than spend more money on a vet who’ll eat up minutes. Homegrown is the way to go!

Lisa type...
like we just got in Bayless. He can play behind Blake for now and mature, and eventually take the PG spot.

We don't need one
1-10, we’ve got the best and deepest 10 man rotation in the league. We won’t need a guy like that to make key plays because we’ll be destroying people. We’ll come at teams in waves with lineups that can hurt you in every which way.
