Will drafting Bayless impact Rudy's decision?
What an exciting night! We picked up the 4th best player in the draft (per KP's measuring) w/ the 13th pick and some collateral. I think Bayless will be a great addition and will instantly be able to contribute.
But.....what about Rudy? Bayless is pretty much a combo-guard who will be playing the point. I thought that we were pushing to have Broy play the 1 and Rudy play the two. The final contract hasn't been signed for him to play w/ the Blazers yet. Will this be a set-back for Rudy who may see it as a log-jam in his position to be a starter?
Your thoughts?

I think the message in all this is that KP (eternal G status) and Nate
feel as if they dont need a “true” pg to play w/ Roy. Rudy is coming here this draft is NOT gonna change that.
(and only b/c i saiiiiidddd so!_

3 guard rotation
I think there will be a 3-guard rotation that’s going to look something like this:
1 – Roy
2 – Rudy
1 – Bayless
2 – Roy
1 – Bayless
2 – Rudy
What this really means, I think, is diminished minutes for Blake and continued small minutes for Sergio.

Rudy won´t consider a young player a big threat.
It would be different if you trade for a veteran good SG.

Rudy will play a huge role this year.
If the personnel remains the same heading in to the season (a big IF) I see the rotation shaking out this way
Blake, Roy, Outlaw, LA, Oden
Bayless, Rudy, Martell, Channing, The Vanilla Gorilla
Diogu, RLEC
Kopennan in DLeague
I don’t know about you all but I love the defensive potential of BOTH units. If Web can play with the same intensity when he is not having a stellar offensive night (ie slashing to the rim and playing d) that second unit is going to give other NBA second units absolute fits. Length, quickness and scoring punch. WOW!

missing Sergio
can’t d-league him, but I guess he can be inactive. or Raef is.

Two offensive guards off the bench
Should be interesting who defers to who, Rudy or Bayless? It would almost be better if either one was playing alongside Blake

Yeah, How could I forget
He has to be around for the transition factor for Rudy. I guess RLEC will be inactive and sergio and Diogu will share pine polishing duties.

KP said he loves his top 10 players. Well, so do I. And I happen to believe that Bayless may be the perfect fit for Roy. Both can distribute the ball and shoot. Just as some were debating whether Roy would be the PG of the future, you can now see that we picked up someone who can also share the load with Roy. He can do his thing sometimes, just as Bayless will do the same. It doesn’t take the ball out of Roys hands as much as complements it. We now get two good ballhandlers who can distribute as well. And Bayless, at 6’3” and 200 lbs can actually handle the opposing point whereas Augustin, at 5’11”, would problems. He’s not, after all, some skinny kid.
I think Fernandez also loves it. He didn’t come in here believing he’d be the starting PG, after all. Rather, he knew Portland would make a move for that spot – and did. Rush might’ve been a conflict – but not Bayless.
Blake is an excellent addition at guard. He’s steady, competent, and able to guide the young players while putting up consistently credible minutes. He may not be top tier – but he’s solid. That’s why the Blazers like him. He’ll be around for years.
And, keep in mind, if there was one player that kept surfacing as someone everyone else valued and tried to pry loose from the Blazers – it was Outlaw. But KP was having none of that. That first unit, over-time, is going to be a matchup nightmare for other teams. 7”0’, 6’ll”, 6’9”, 6’5”, and 6’3” (when Bayless matures into the lineup). \
What else is there to say. Other than, I don’t have a clue what KP will do next year with 1) A more mature Batum; 2) 4 – #2 draft picks; and 3) all of the cap space – having wasted none of it. What the devil else could we add at this point?
We may have to start our own “Euro-League”.

Buy One!
Is there a rule against Paul Allen buying a Euro-league team and stashing his picks over there to season? Since we can’t do that with the D-League, it seems like a logical choice. He could develop his players and dictate the coach and system used. Have Batum, Freeland, Koponen, and Brandon Jennings (get him out of high school) over there working on their games.
Come to think of it, couldn’t the “Euro Team” actually recruit highschool talent to play overseas for a year before entering the draft? We could lock them into contracts with buyouts that would actually help fund the team. Oooohh. I’m getting all excited. Oh no, David Stern is headed this way…run!

Competition.
KP and McMillan have been saying for the last 3 years that spots will be earned on this team, not given away. If Rudy wants a chance to compete in the best league in the world, he’ll come over. I’m sure this is the same message KP has been sending to Spain ever since we drafted Rudy.

It was mentioned by quick
That KP thinks Batum might sign with the blazers.
I dont think this is the case but I don’t have the slightest idea

Supposedly Rudy was concerned about Rush.
I think that means he sees himself as more of a 2/3 than a 2/1.
Also, Rush is supposed to be one of the biggest immediate impact players. Bayless I think will do all right his first year, but maybe not as well as Rush.
For both those reasons, I think Rudy will be happy to have Bayless join the team.
