Barrett talks about Bayless trade

http://mikebarrettsblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/blazers-get-their-man-again.html

don't know if it's true. If it is then KP just flat out owned the whole draft and every GM in the league, it's not even fair to let him participate.

Maybe we can have more inside information tomorrow.... Hope we can get some more juicy stuff.

Go Bayless!! Go Blazers!!!

It might have been better if we

got Mayo! We’d have had to take Walker and Jaric(comes with Supermodel-Adriana Lima). It sounds good to me.
Bayless is still good and I can’t wait till the season starts!

Batum was the target
The Blazers then packaged Arthur and Dorsey, and traded them to the Rockets for Nicolas Batum, who was taken 25th. Again, they got exactly the guy they had in mind when they bought the pick from the Hornets. He had a great pre-draft workout in Portland, but was feared lost when Houston snagged him at 25.

tooting my own horn...

I sniffed out the KP smoke and mirrors 4 days before the draft:

“WOW, You honestly read my mind…. I was just thinking about how Bayless seems to be the forgotten guy around here. All the Blazer brass love towards Augustine started making me suspicous, they play their cards really close to their chest and this sort of struck me as a smoke screen. Is it possible they are trying to convince someone that Augustine is better than Bayless, and possibly worth picking before Jerryd? Is this KP draft manipulation? Maybe he sees a way for Bayless to slide on the 26th of June. Possibly even to #7, where we may be able to pick him without giving up an arm and a leg to trade up. I really dont know, but my gut tells me that everything is not as it seems coming out of Tualatin.”

yeah...

all that DJ love made me suspicious too. I guess I shot a little too high with Rose. Should have gone one less.

I’m laughing hysterically on the inside because we completely bluffed our way to get this guy, set it all up, and knocked it all down.

My biggest laugh is that KP KNEW that Sac would pick some scrub!

Ford: Bill, you're claiming victory already? Have you had a "Mission Accomplished" banner printed yet?

Augustin

The hyping of Augustin was incredible. I didn’t completely buy it… it started to get me intrigued, but it was mostly coming from the media… which brings up the question: how did Pritchard get the media to start going crazy about Augustin? Maybe they did it on their own. I do recall the media getting to see more of that day than most. If that was all planned Pritchard is a double genius.

I also have to believe that the Alexis Ajinca at 13 in the mock drafts was a stunt by Pritchard. He was probably just curious to see just exactly how much influence he could have on the mock drafts if he put in someone totally unbelievable at 13.

Here's an idea:

The media sees players at the very end of their workout, after the Blazers have had a chance to see everything they can do. They will have done some things well and some things poorly.

So when the media comes in, the Blazers can either have the player do more of the things he showed best, or more of the things he showed worst, depending on what they want the media to think about him.

Yeah

I already went back and gave you kudos for that, but I’ll do it here, too. Well done.

Right there with you.

It was my thread and Bayless was what I hoped for… It feels like Christmas today.

I'm really bad ...

... at picking College-to-Pro stars, but I kept looking at the guys we were praising and saying to myself, “Really? This is our guy?”

Oh the tangled webs KP weaves when the Kings he doth deceive.

Classic. Teach it.

Amen. Pumped the “hell” out of Augustin “and” Westbrook, and Alexander as well. All three began moving up. The hype simply got to the rest of these GM’s. After all, they’re all looking over their shoulders at KP. Charlotte took Augustin at 9, Alexander went at 8, and Westbrook replaced Bayless in Seattle at 4. Yet all 3 ended up in the 4 – 9 range. Everyone of these started out in the 10 – 14 range. And, once they moved into those selections – it put Bayless down the list where we could reach him. Classic misdirection. And that set the table when the Pacers traded Neal and picked up Ford, because they now wanted a Rush type shooting/defensive player, not a PG.
