Jarrett Jack Appreciation Thread w/ McBob

2109463215_1766fb31bb_medium

via farm3.static.flickr.com

JJ1, we laugh, we cried, we made scowls together.  You played with a passion that we will surely miss.  Thanks for working hard and always attacking the hoop.  My favorite memory is how you always played well against the L*kers.  Good luck with the Pacers!

Please share your appreciation and farewells.

Some common quotes on JJ

"JJ stepped out of bounds"

"Jump Pass"

"JJ gets AND1"

"Game Winner against the Clippers"

"JJ draws the foul and goes to the line"

McRoberts also is included.  I guess share your Mcbob memories.  Like that sweet turn around against the 76ers.

Post-Jack depression

Images of his silly smile and straight eyebrows are flashing through my mind. I will remember him for that game against the clips and the game against the Bulls, that was awesome. He’s an awesome character guy, and if you want to rebuild your franchise into a group of likable professionals, Jarret Jack is solid pick up.

Tom must be missing his favorite booty.

It's cool

It’s not that I haven’t tried to shave a cat before. The clippers just didn’t work on my cat’s fine hair. I just didn’t want to take credit for something I found on the internet.

"We made scowls together"

Love it.

My dad and I used to scream “you rock, Jarrett” every time Jarrett played well (which was a lot, no snide comments needed), because everyone else was so mean to him. The people near us started to make fun of us, but we didn’t mind. Not too much anyway.

It was fun.

Good luck Jack

I didn’t like how you stepped out of bounds every game. But I liked you as a person and an agressive PG. Here’s to our future.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

I'll miss Jarret

I always rooted for the guy, mostly because I root for the underdog, but also because he has heart and passion and works hard. Also, he’s a heck of a good quote—remember the one about going to ESPN headquarters with Al Sharpton?

I really, really, really, really wanted him to be a better basketball player, and he still may be one yet.

And I’m glad McBob gets to play at home.

Jack's biggest weaknes .....

his inability to run the fast break. For that reason alone I do not rue his exit. Ironic that I was a big fan of his during his rookie year. But then, I saw the light. I think KP saw that same light …. but Nate never did.

Good luck to Jack though, and I wish the best for him.

by TwoDeep on Jun 26, 2008 8:42 PM PDT   0 recs

He made some sick fast break passes in some late season games.

Let’s give credit where it’s due.

I was a fan of Jack. I’m sorry to see him go.

Wish you luck JJ.

I will miss his sense of humor and decency...

honestly, he could move in next door anytime. And the way he accepted and thrived coming off the bench. I hate that he will have to compete for time with that tool Ford.

love J Jack

i’m sorry to see Jarrett go. kinda figured it would happen but it’s still sad.

dude drove harder to the hoop than anybody else on the team.

he also said hilarious stuff during interviews and out on the court. plus his mustache could drive around Chris Paul by itself if it wanted to.

by grizzo on Jun 26, 2008 8:54 PM PDT   0 recs

his replies on "ask the Blazers" were hilarious

sometimes they’d have three or four different answers by Jack to one question.
My favorite was when he suggested that the city of Portland have a suit drive to update Maurice Lucas’s 70’s-looking wardrobe.

i loved his great interviews

and what a great dresser he is.

and how he would score the basket while his body was at a crazy angle in the air.

and how he would actually shoot the basketball when he drove to the basket, unlike some other unmentioned point guard on the Blazers.

I’m sorry to see him go. i wish him luck.

Good luck

Will miss him on the team, hope he has success and becomes a legitimate starter in Indiana. I’d like it if we didn’t give Indiana another all-star though.

by amitp06 on Jun 26, 2008 9:32 PM PDT   0 recs

I hope I can figure out...

...what makes this a real improvement. If it is for the future, then cool. But Jack was responsible for at least 5+ wins this years. That’s huge for a 500 team. And he was an emotional center for this team. Sometimes the only guy on the court with any fire. Or, besides Roy, the only guy not afraid to attack the hoop. If Bayless can bring that, then great.

by hiccough on Jun 26, 2008 9:33 PM PDT   0 recs

I knew it was coming...

...but that still doesn’t make it less painful. I liked Jack, a lot. He was the heart and soul of this team. He wasn’t the best player on the court, but he worked his ass off for this team.

by DonkeyShins on Jun 26, 2008 9:58 PM PDT   0 recs

to Jarrett

You had great character and personality, as you proved during many interviews, and by showing up on nearly every player’s BFF list. Your heart and grit won us quite a few games, and you were fully invested in this team, as you proved by winning KP’s summer workout award, and by busting your tail every night on the court. Sincere thanks, for everything you’ve done for this team. Sorry that a bunch of tools at the draft party and in the Rose Garden were whooping and cheering when your trade was announced—the real Blazer fans know what you brought to the table and will miss you. I’m sure you’ll have a long and productive NBA career, and later in your career, if you’re willing to piggyback on the Blazers Championship train for the MLE, we’ll welcome you back eagerly.

McBob, we hardly knew ye. Best of luck finding your place in the league.

Jack will be missed

by cups, and whatever else people throw at him. seriously, the strongest memory that I have of jack, was during the spree, he was wining about not being used enough, I had a very cold fealing as i realised his potential to be a selfish cancer. Its like when my mom died, I knew it was coming, and that it would cease a lot of pain, but still cought off gaurd somehow. thats were all similarity ends. I love my mom, I never really liked jack. He did have fire, but with out the talent to justify the very real risk of that said fire turning on us.If I remember right bayless was a high lottery pick before the blazers started liking other lower projected guys like, westbrook{4} ect. so Im happy we got him. but what do I know. I still have hope for sergio. haha

Ouch

That’s some pretty morbid, cold stuff. Especially for a thread that’s supposed to be about honoring the fella. Plenty of folks liked him, maybe you could let them do that instead of comparing him to cancer and death.

by Diesel10 on Jun 27, 2008 12:01 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I find it especially odd

given that, as Jorga noted, nearly every player on the team last year included him in their list of “my three best friends on the team.”

by Section323 on Jun 27, 2008 3:56 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Very fair

I realized that after I posted, kinda like telling a messed up story as part of a ulagy. A little tacky to say the least. I went both ways on him at times, but more often did not, was more then a little sceptical. The morbidity I profusley appologise for.

Your whole cancer thing with him is crazy

You totally misunderstood the whole point of that clash between Nate and JJ and turned it into this idea that he is a selfish cancer. I really don’t care if you like him or not. I just find it annoying that you misrepresent that whole episode and then use it as the basis of your opinion of the man.

Oh well, just had to speak my mind on that because I remember your comments from before on this situation. Anyway, here’s hoping Bayless makes the loss of Jack worthwhile.

isnt that how we

judge others, using personal expirences as a basis of opionion. My expirience with teams tell me that just becouse your liked in the locker room(zach randolf) does not mean that you do not corode at the winning thread. And I really dont care if you care if I like him or not. I AM sorry you find it anoying that I have a different opionion then yours, I gues I kinda feal entitled to think for myself, being born in a “free country” and all.

Besides, what did you think that was all about anyway? If we werent winning and he came to the coach suggesting that there might be a better, more productive use for himself, I would be inclined to agree with you. But since we were winning, I can only think that the loss of personal glory is what drove him to national spectical. maybee my read is wrong, and I do hope he finds sucsess.

The fact that you disagree with me(first statement I made-will let you decide on this one) is what allows us to really have a discussion or debate. that doesnt anoy you to much does(stick in ribs)?

Had to happen

KP had to seperate Nate and Jarrett. Now Rudy and Bayless can compete for PT behind Roy and maybe one of them can beat out Blake. Good luck, they’ll realy have to impress McMillian to win that starting nod

And all the best to Jack and McBob in Indy, as long as they don’t come back to haunt the Blazers in an NBA game…

Good luck to you Jack

I, however, will not miss him. I really do wish him the best of luck, he’s a very nice guy. I really won’t miss his a.) poor decision making b.) poor basketball iq c.) all around dumb mistakes (jump in the air with the ball and no plan for pass or shot, STEPPING OUT OF BOUNDS ALL THE TIME, etc…).... Anyway, Best of Luck man, you deserve a long career as a NBA journeyman at the least. I do feel bad for you that you’re going to a crappy team with no future though

Worked hard and had bravery and tenacity attacking the basket. If he’s on his way out, let’s give him his due: he was a legitimate NBA player. He belongs in the league and I wish him the best.

And McRoberts? He’s the man. The absolute Man. I wish him slightly better than I already wished Jack.

Best wishes to both

Best memories … JJ being named as BF by practically all the rest of the team … his going may affect the team more than the fans. All the “And 1”s that he earned by being so aggressive – something many of the other Blazers didn’t do. jksnake may have had it right when he said maybe he tried too hard…

McBob’s passing in Summer League. What a surprise that was and I’m sorry we didn’t get to see more of it during the season. At least he got some playing time in Boise.

May they both live long and prosper (except against us.)

Jack Will be Fine

Jack goes to a team where he’ll play behind Ford, mature, and if Ford is injured, as his history indicates, he’ll get a lot of minutes. That’s good for Jack. He’s a legitimate player in this league and will have a long career. I wish him well.

At the same time, I’ve learned to trust what Paul Allen calls KP’s “golden gut”. Bayless will be a better fit for Roy, as he has the skill set to handle the ball, shoot, and defend the other PG’s. He won’t, however, in this system, need to be a pure PG – as he and Roy will share it.

Count me as one who isn't exactly enamoured ...

... with this trade. I’m going to be interested in seeing just how good Bayless is. I’m also going to be interested in how fast all of the Bayless supporters turn on him, if it happens he’s no better than Jack after his first 3 years.

At least he good news is that Blake is not likely to lose his starter’s spot.

by timg56 on Jun 27, 2008 7:23 AM PDT   0 recs

I gotta say

I loved Jack in college. When Georgia Tech made it to the finals it won me my pool. That carried over to when the Blazers drafted him. At that time there was so much young potential that I believed in (and the way that younger picks were working out in the form of James, Kobe and KG) that I bought my Blazers half season tickets thinking that everyone would be tripping over themselves to get the seats that I had soon. Obivously this was prior to the extensive knowledge I got from the BE. The following season we were worst in the league. I was devastated, but stayed in. Things had to get better, right? Well, here we are now, things have certainly changed direction and I have the best seats you could get in the upper level (or at least close) and I really don’t think I would have bought them if it wasn’t for Jack. I have been out of the country for the past year and a half, so I haven’t seen him not live up to the potential he was touted with, but I know we this was a good decision for everyone. I still think he will be good competitor in this league, and if he shaves a half foot off of his perception of the court he could be awesome. Seriously, I’m not one for such concrete guidelines either, so I can empathize with him. I’m not in the NBA either, and work in a field that there is a lot of gray in. Anyway, I’ll always be a fan of him. Rock on JJ, and thanks for selling me on the sweet seats.

in a way, it’s sad to see both of them go. besides all those jump passes and turnovers, jack was a gritty player with a lot of heart. he’d scrap for everything. the blazers will definitely miss him in the locker room.

as for mcbob, he never got enough playing time to show what he could really do. i would’ve hoped he got 1 more year to show us his potential.

I’m going to miss you Jarrett. I was resigned to you leaving because we still need a point and not another combo backup. I loved your guts, your toughness and willingness to take it to the hoop in Q4—no one else but Brandon would do it. You’re a hard working class act who I hope the Pacer fans appreciate. I loved watching you play.

yeah

they’re where we were two years ago-they’ve shipped away almost all their problem children. I actually see a lot of similarities-Stephen Jackson, for example, is kind of their Rasheed, a major headcase who needed a change of scenery to get his head on straight and become a more consistent player. Now they’ve only got Tinsley as their Z-bo, hanging around because of his unattractive contract and skillset. Unfortunately, Thomas isn’t around anymore to help them finish the cleanup job.

Anyway, I guess in this metaphor Jack is sort of like their Steve Blake signing? I think he could be a steadying influence and a good player for them, just like Steve was for us.
