How Portland drafts tomorrow!
First Big Trade:
The Portland Trailblazers trade Travis Outlaw, Raef Lafrentz, Jarrett Jack, and the rights to the #13 pick (Danilo Gallinari) to the New Jersey Nets for Devin Harris, Keith Van Horn, cash considerations, and the rights to the #21 pick (Donte Green)
At pick #27...
...The Portland Trailblazers select... Alexis Ajinca, center, France.
Second Semi-Big Trade:
The Portland Trailblazers trade Steve Blake and #33 pick to the Denver Nuggets for Denver's 1st round pick of 2009
At pick #36...
...The Portland Trailblazers select... DJ White, power forward, Indiana
Third Not-so-big trade:
The Portland Trailblazers trade the #55 pick to the Orlando Magic for Orlando's 2nd round pick of 2009 and cash considerations
THE END OF THE DRAFT
Portland cuts Keith Van Horn
Portland's lineup for 08-09
C- Greg Oden, Joel Pryzbilla, Alexis Ajinca (maybe stay in Euroleague for 1 more year)
PF- LaMarcus Aldridge, Channing Frye, DJ White
SF- Martell Webster, Donte Green
SG- Brandon Roy, Rudy Fernandez
PG- Devin Harris, Peterri Koponen, Sergio Rodriguez
I love this roster for Portland! We got a great starting five and a great bench! I'm pretty sure Koponen will be impressive in summer league and will make the team, so that gives lee-way to trade away Blake and Jack.
DJ White gives Portland some physicality at the 4 spot and a lot of hustle.
Ajinca can stay in Europe and develop or Portland can stash in away in the DLeague.
btw, McRoberts will be assigned to the Idaho Stampede

you mind expoundering on that?
any specific reasons?

Because you are sending away our only decent pg
who is a great 3 shooter, a veteran, and is dependable. All you are getting back is a mid to late 1st round pick next year?? We bought one of those for 3 mil this year. On top of that, you have Sergio “I cant break the rotation” Rodriguez and Peterri “please let me play a minute in the nba” Koponan as our only backup pg’s. I like PK and Sergio, but they are 3rd string pg’s at best on this team next season. I do hope your Harris trade happens though, that would be sah-weet.

Doesn't work, anyway
No match for Blake’s salary, and Denver is mile-high over the cap.

Love the way the team looks.
I like these trade proposals alot, but would the Nuggets really trade a first rounder for Blake, we don’t need to do it anyway.

Blake won't be traded
Neither will Outlaw.
by Jason3123 on Jun 25, 2008 8:26 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Maybe... maybe not
i know that the Nets don’t want martell, so if we get harris, they’re getting outlaw.
by futurenba23 on Jun 25, 2008 8:30 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm tellin you
It won’t happen. If we acquire Harris it will be through Webster/and or Jack, or maybe Raef’s deal, or maybe all 3, plus 2 first rounders, or 3 first rounders as it would not be surprising to see Portland buy a 3rd pick.
But I promise you they will not trade Outlaw. Unless LBJ becomes available.

I have mixed feelings about the trade
But I would LOVE to see Blake go to Denver. Would that be a record? Do we have like… a custody agreement with Denver on little Steve?
I would feel we’d be a bit lacking of depth, but then I think the team has to get used to the idea of not having 5-8 quality backups if we want 5 truly high-caliber starters.

Denver already traded their pick
The link is good because it shows MJ and Larry Brown laughing it up. I cant wait till that picture comes up next summer during larry brown’s arbitration for the rest of his salary.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

Why is VanHorn in this?
I know he got used last year in that Dallas trade, but the dude is officially retired. I am not sure he can be included in a trade like this now. Maybe he can seeing as is contract is probably still on the books till next week. Maybe someone who knows about these things can weigh in on this.

Van Horn has never officially retired
That’s how he got included in the Dallas/NJ trade. Teams can’t trade retired players, otherwise the Kings might be trying to trade Oscar Robertson!

Nice work
I wouldn’t want any of it to happen, but nice effort. One thing, In your proposed lineup we don’t really have a true Small foward. Martell is a 2/3 mix and Donte Green is a 6”10 3/4.

which makes it work
and, you dont really need a true sf like a true PG or C, that would be if he wasnt a SF, but he is, he is 6’7”, Paul pierce, a awsome SF is 6’6”.
there might be someone better out there rather than Donto Greene, im not sure he would be a good fit.

Love the first trade
Just swap Webster for Outlaw and you’re golden with Harris
Don’t need trade #2, Blake will take the leftover minutes at guard (Injury replacement, Rudy in foul trouble, etc) If Steve’s unhappy with this he’ll keep his mouth shut during the season then opt out of his contract next summer…by then PK will be ready to take those leftover guard minutes
Your draft choices? Meh

Keep trade #1 as is
Webster will be better than trout, and im not even sure that they would want web. I think i read or heard that somewhere…..
by raging WebTed on Jun 25, 2008 9:33 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Blazers have cost-certainty with Trout's LT contract
And Travis is Roy’s best friend on the team, so I’d be surprised if Outlaw is the SF who gets dealt
But Harris is worth losing either TO or MW, just not both

2 for Larue
Ha remember the day
the first of our draft picks that hauntingly stay
just like Sam Bowie
or trading Moses Malone
minutia to others of which I bemoan
What were they thinking in drafting Larue?
Guess back in the day no GM quite as shrewd
had KP been traveling back then and playing the shrine
imagine the wonder
oops cant violate the directive prime
so the future is near
time to stop moaning the imperfect drafts
it seems like eternity has finally passed
the fans must sit still until picks are made
gotta feeling KP is holding the Ace of spade

Isn't the second trade illegal?
Denver traded away this year’s first round draft pick. Doesn’t that mean they can’t trade next year’s first round draft pick? I love the first trade though. I might pick somebody other than green with the 21st pick, but it would be a great trade for the blazers. Do the salaries match up?

Well, the Nuggets 2009 pick is gone. Secondly Gallinari isn’t likely to be around at 13, and Greene certainly isn’t going to be around at 21.
