Dumb Trade/Draft Predictions
OK, so maybe one or two people out there predicted we would buy the Hornets' pick. And any thinking person realizes that pick is now a prime candidate for inclusion in a trade.
This means that all trade predictions/rumors prior to this move are now highly suspect. We have a highly tradeable asset that will cost us little to include in a trade, and none of us knew about it. Probably not even KP knew it until a couple days ago, though he probably knew it was a possibility. If you tried to make a trade work by looking at the assets we have, we now have another one.
Somebody (I forget who) predicted we would get Augustin at 13 and trade him to Detroit for somebody or other, and they would include their pick so we could get Hickson. Won't happen, will it? Why? Because if we want Hickson, we'll pick him at #27. If that trade happens, it WON'T be in the form earlier suggested.
Any trade prediction you make is subject to being thrown completely out of kilter by a prior trade, and trades will fly fast in the next 36 hours. Save yourself the mental effort and enjoy the ride.
It's also a little silly to predict who we'll draft, since none of us have ANY CLUE as to which picks we'll have by draft time, or who will be drafting ahead of us. It's not like we're at #4, and we only have to predict what the three teams ahead of us will do. There are likely to be at least 3 trades involving teams currently ahead of us, which can significantly impact who is drafted.
Does KP know who he's going to draft? Only if he's already agreed a deal that hasn't been announced. Otherwise, he has a list of a bunch of players, somewhat ranked in order as to how much he wants them -- and with a pretty good idea of how much he is willing to give up to get them in a trade. And he probably has a list of about 50 veteran players that he'd like to get in a trade, if he could, and what he's willing to give up to get them.
Who is willing to deal with him? At what price? That's going to determine which of the 5 million possibilities will occur. Some of them will happen. But even KP can't predict today which ones will happen. One trade that he thinks might happen could lead to another that he didn't anticipate at all. There could be 5-6 player trades, 3 team trades, etc. Maybe we'll even buy another pick.
It's fun to talk about who we'd like to get. But to predict precise trades or draft picks right now is crazy stuff. I said so, so it must be true.
Therefore, here is my prediction for the next 36 hours: KP will do at least three things I didn't anticipate. Since I didn't anticipate the Hornets move, that will make four for this draft. That's about par for the course, four unanticipated moves.
---
Bonus thought for all you Chris Paul dreamers out there. Which team has an owner that is committed to winning? New Orleans or Portland. Think he'll notice? Or do you think he'll be told, "We needed money because we want to extend you with a max contract."

You have to make it a half #.
so the O/U should be 3.5 as is he makes 3 moves it is a push.
Does this move count as #1? If so I would say over. I would put it at 5.5 over under if I was a betting man.

I wonder, who does KP's spreadsheets?

Since we're now betting
I would bet that he even surprises the guy who does his spreadsheets.
He probably even surprises himself sometimes. Like with the Zach trade, he was surprised to end up trading the guys he traded to get the exception and with what followed.

Imagine the disappointment if KP just used the picks.

And
he’ll draft people that make NO SENSE AT ALL to Blazer fans.
And on July 1st, when Harris’ contract complication is over, he’ll trade them all to NJ, and we’ll find out that he was drafting the guys they wanted for the trade.

I got comfortable days ago with the fact that I don't have a clue what KP is going to do
That doesn’t mean I can stop thinking about it. One thing I’d put out there on the out fringe of possibilities is that KP goes a little conservative and decides on plan A to mostly just stand pat with his hand. How would his getting the 28th pick fit in with this mindset?
Well, maybe he trades away the 13 and Jack for a little vet chemistry help and uses the 28th on a Euro to stash for a few years over there. This gives him the flexibility to trade away next year’s number one all together and still stay wihin the “have to have a first round pick once every two years” rule (or at least I think it does, I’m fuzzy on that rule) while not clogging up his roster with more youth.
There. That’s another scenario doomed to fail.

I'll go out on the limb
and make a prediction.
Based on what I gleaned from Hollinger’s piece rating draft picks based on their college performance, I’ll predict KP tries to trade up to select either DJ Augustin or Joe Alexander, as both players performed well in their workouts here, are highly rated according to Hollinger’s system, and neither appears likely to be around at #13.

IF we can’t manage to work out to snag Rose, I see those two guys going, but Alexander is pretty raw and I don’t think he’ll be effective until about three years from now as he develops his BBIQ. I do think his potential in this area is much higher than outlaw though.

We’re going after Rose. I’m telling you!

I say....
.... self medicating can be a bad thing.
Personally, I’m starting to wonder if Chicago ends up making a huge mistake in taking Rose.

definitely
They need inside scoring presence. They already have a good point guard. Beasely is statistically one of the best prospects since LBJ at the forward position, and they are drafting Rose. Has this made any sense to anyone from day one?
Bulls play by play from 2008-9:
Derrick Rose brings the ball up, fakes out one defender, dribbles between the legs of another, throws a cross court behind the back pass to Joakim Noah… who puts it up at the buzzer… and misses from 5ft. And that’s the game ladies and gentleman: Bulls-14 Miami Beastleys-306

Yeah I don't really get it either
Kirk is an OK PG, you could do much worse. They’ve been looking for a low post player for the last 3 years, why not take Beasley with the #1? I like Rose, but not better than Beasley.
Boston coach Doc Rivers said he was surprised by the firing of Saunders.
"I don't understand it," Rivers said. "It makes coaching not fun."

Just my hunch
when the dust settles, somehow or other, Joe Alexander is a Blazer.
They loved him, then they stopped talking about him. It’s like he dropped off the planet.

I saw a pretty funny line on ESPN.com or somewhere...
................................ it said the way the Blazers are accumulating assets, in a couple years they will have an undefeated D-league team!
