Quick on 1080 with trade rumor updates
Jason Quick was on primetime and had some juicy tidbits about what the blazers are trying to do. Isaac Ropp recapped what Quick said on his blog:
"Jason Quick, Oregonian:
Blazers in serious talks with 4 teams about trading out of the #13 pick
The four teams: Phoenix, NY Knicks, Toronto, New Jersey
Players targeted: Barbosa, Malik Rose or David Lee?, TJ Ford, Devin Harris
Offer on the table from one of the above or another East team
The deal involves the #13 and a Blazers reserve for an unnamed veteran
Potential exists for the Blazers to trade down targeting Brandon Rush @ #21
The players garnering the most interest: Frye, Webster & Outlaw
The players garnering very little interest: Rodriguez, Jack
Significant news: Nate has decided to play Travis Outlaw exclusively at SF
McMillan also committed to more Brandon Roy at PG
No word from James Jones on his player option"
Link: http://1080thefan.com/Daily-Blog/2312225
There is a lot of good info in there. Quick also said that Paul Allen commented that the proposed trade was "intriguing". I wonder who it could be for???
Nate saying that Travis is going to be primarily a small forward is also sort of interesting. That must mean they plan on keeping Frye? How does that effect Jones and Martell?
On your mark.....
Get set.....

Harris is by far the most interesting on the list.
But it would probably take #13, Outlaw and Frye at least, if they’re the most valuable, and maybe Webster too. If a trade could be swung to get Rush, then Jones and Rush could cover SF, but that leaves us a glut of PG’s. That, and I really don’t want to lose Outlaw. His skills coming off of the bench are needed.
Ugh, I just wish we’d get through the draft already. This emotional rollercoaster is making me nauseous.

I'm actually looking forward to more rumor posts than trade idea posts.
Although, I’m not sure what the difference is, other than the rumors have information behind them. It may be misleading information, fed to reporters by dastardly GMs trying to feel the waters, but information nonetheless.
Thanks to Myemic23 for digging this one up!

Amen to that, brother!
SOMETHING interesting will happen.
By Friday, it’ll all be just news and history.
I’m so ANXIOUS!!!

The worst part is that Friday is the day we are loading up the moving van.
All the news, reactions and everything from the night before I am going to miss, and wont be near a computer for days.
On the positive side, I will get to spend a few weeks back in home sweet Oregon.

Wonder what the Z-Bo/Franchise precedent does for our rep.
Specifically, are the Blazers regarded as a team that would take on a big, long-term contract
because we’re willing to buy it out and turn it into cap space?
Or: Would we do a deal with the Nets where we get Devin Harris in exchange for taking VC,
because we, like nobody else in the NBA, would buy out a contract like Vince’s?
What would we have to give in exchange for a VC + Devin Harris package?
Worth it to NJ, maybe . . .
Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

And might I add:
Yes of COURSE the REC would be involved in such a deal.
REC + [insert whatever here, possibly JJ+#13] = Devin Harris + a VC buyout.
DEAL . . . or no deal?!?

I don't think we could get Harris
without giving up at least one of Trout/Web… although that VC contract IS bad.

Wow!
Do we want Harris that bad? Four more years at an average of 16 million dollars a season? Vince Carter would really have to decide to play again to make that remotely worth it.

I can't imagine anyone taking on Carter's contract
Even if they bought him out it still mucks up the cap space.
by raoulduke on Jun 24, 2008 8:51 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
We wont buy out VC's contract
I’m down for the trade though, don’t forget Paul Allen is a big VC fan and would probably be estactic to add him, remember the party that was PA had ready a few years back when we thought we were getting him
The pictures kinda small, but Im giving the C's a big thumbs down

I think KP has calmed Allen.

Rush at 21
would be good value IMO.
If Web or Trout get dealt hopefully a good PG is coming in. Harris would fit the bill. Web/Frye/13 for Harris/21 would be awesome but may require getting Rod Thorn very drunk. They’d almost certainly hold out for more.

Rush at 21 is an excellent value.

A Vince Carter buyout?
I don’t think we buy him out if he comes here. I doubt Harris + Carter is the deal, but in case it is, let’s seee how it shakes out for the fun of it.
RLEC+Webster+ Frye and/or Jack + 13 = Vince Carter + Devin Harris
The first thought before I delve into the trade and lineup is:
WHY HAS NATE SUDDENLY DONE A COMPLETE 180 ABOUT WHAT POSITION HE THINKS OUTLAW WILL PLAY FOR THE BLAZERS? I got to think about that before I speculate.
If we get Vince Carter, there is no way we buy him out. We start him at the 2 or the 3. Harris would obviously be our 1.
We would potentially have a starting lineup of Harris, Roy, Carter, Aldridge, Oden. They would be backed up by Blake, Fernandez, Outlaw, Unknown PF (Hickson?), Przybilla.
Can I buy you a fish sandwich?

WHY HAS NATE SUDDENLY DONE A COMPLETE 180 ABOUT WHAT POSITION HE THINKS OUTLAW WILL PLAY FOR THE BLAZERS?
Because they like Frye backing up LMA and Martell is gonzo in a Harris deal?
Harris, Roy and Rudy = decent 3-guard rotation. Blake’s minutes would take a dive
Harris is now what Westbrook might become
Jack has no trade value? Now there’s a shocker…
by two4larue on Jun 24, 2008 11:36 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah it is
I think Jack is good, on the right team. I don’t think we’re that team. I was a bit surprised too.

Plus he actually
Played really well historically in the playoffs, unlike the long-ish playoff history of Barbosa and the recent playoff play of Calderon.
Of course, Calderon should be off any of our wish lists now that TJ Ford is gone.

Interesting stuff
Just last night I heard Wheels say that he felt that there wasn’t much chance of trading for a vet. Change of circumstances? Smokescreens?
I’m pretty sure he also said there wasn’t much interest in Jack or Sergio.

New York and New Jersey
Are both ahead of the Blazers in the Draft and there is a rumor on Truehoop that the Nets could trade the 10th to the Blazers… perhaps as part of one of the aforementioned trades?

Now that we have 27
Can we dream about getting Harris w/o VC?
How about Web + Frye + 13 + 27 for Harris?

does nj still have #10 and #21?
would that give them 10, 13, 21 and 27?

I think its fair to dream...
...but if I’m the Nets I’m asking for Outlaw or Rudy.

You're right
Though I think its probably crazy to even consider this deal w/o VC. Nets primary motivation is to sign Lebron, right? Biggest impediment to that is VC. If they get rid of him, they are golden. We can take back VC w/o too much pain since we’re going to be over the cap after next year anyway.
So the most logical explanation is RLEC + Jack + 13 for Harris and VC.

Trout.....our PG of the future
Nate, KP, all the Bedgers around the world (including Ahlmart), know that our answer at PG is #25.
I joke I joke….I really do hope we get Devin Harris. I’m willing to part with Web, Outlaw or Frye….but hopefully we only give up one of the three.

Because Webster will be traded
The only obvious reason to make Travis a full time SF is that he will be the stater, meaning Webster will be gone.

trade up a LOT or trade out
The more I ponder this draft, the more I think picks 4-15 are a crapshoot. If we can trade up to 3 or higher, than of course we should. If not, then I say either trade down to look for value picks and/or Euro-Stash or trade out for a veteran.
if we can get Harris for Trout/Web, Frye and a pick, we gotta do that.
by douglast on Jun 24, 2008 9:30 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
If Quick is correct, then;
PG- Roy, Blake
SG- Webster, Fernandez
SF- Outlaw, Jones
PF- LA, Fry
C- Oden, Pryz
That sounds pretty rich.

We get a new point guard in a trade centered around Webster and draft picks.
Travis becomes starting SF.
We also draft Brandon Rush to put in as backup SF.

I guess if I want to make a more complete prediction
I should say that the PG will be Harris. But if that part was wrong and the rest was right, then ignore this part later.

My guess:
Portland ends up with Barbosa and Harris.
Phoenix ends up with Vince Carter.
NJ ends up with Webster, RELC, #13, #15, #27, cash and future considerations.
Not sure how it would happen, but Tom Penn might know…

But I could getting rid of VC’s huge contract doesn’t seem bad.

I may be going out on a limb here, but an owner who sells Rudy Fernandez for cash and is already strapped with Shaq’s deal taking on Vince Carter’s salary? I’m thinking, no. And then I’m thinking, TP better get his number retired before he ends up in a straitjacket.
