Rumors...

I don't know how much credence to lend to the article, but draftexpress posted an article that affects the Blazers quite prominently. Draft Express Blog

He states that the Sonics could possibly select Brook Lopez instead of Jerryd Bayless. In addition, the last thing that Memphis needs is another small guard.

The mock draft would then probably turn out something like this:

Rose, Beasley, Mayo, Lopez, Love, Bayless...

Isn't Bayless a similar player to Barbosa? He seems to be an ideal fit for Brandon, having PG skills, but preferring to play off the ball, as stated in his DraftExpress profile.

Maybe I am wrong, but he could be a great piece next to Brandon... A player who doesn't dominate the ball but can bring it upcourt, stroke a jump shot, and be a fiery competitor.

A little food for thought.

WOW, You honestly read my mind....

I was just thinking about how Bayless seems to be the forgotten guy around here. All the Blazer brass love towards Augustine started making me suspicous, they play their cards really close to their chest and this sort of struck me as a smoke screen. Is it possible they are trying to convince someone that Augustine is better than Bayless, and possibly worth picking before Jerryd? Is this KP draft manipulation? Maybe he sees a way for Bayless to slide on the 26th of June. Possibly even to #7, where we may be able to pick him without giving up an arm and a leg to trade up. I really dont know, but my gut tells me that everything is not as it seems coming out of Tualatin.

Anywho, I like Jerryd Bayless a lot. I am not sure we need him, but if KP is going point guard/combo guard(Barbosa) in the draft, he has to be near the top of the list. I do think Rudy has that combo guard spot filled, but maybe Bayless has some real potential as a pure pg alongside Roy and Rudy. It might be fair to compare Mayo and Bayless’s stats because they both played in the Pac-10(strongest NCAA conference this year in most experts opinion) and both were on NCAA tournament teams:

OJ Mayo-
36.8mpg 20.7ppg 44.2%fg 80.3%ft 40.9%3pt 4.5rpg 3.3apg 1.5spg 3.5topg

Jerryd Bayless-
35.7mpg 19.7ppg 45.8% 83.9% 40.7%3pt 2.7rpg 4.0apg 1.0spg 3.0topg

So basically, if my quantitive stats prove me right, OJ Mayo = Jerryd Bayless – 3 inches and character issues

Check your algebra

Good point with the statistics—wow they are pretty similar aren’t they? But I think your equation should be Jerryd Bayless = OJ Mayo – 3 inches and character issues.

not just the blazers were super high on augustin

it was unanimous among media members that augustin had by far the best workout of anyone that showed up in portland.

westbrook came in second.

the positive statements were not solely smoke screen.

I don't know.

1. I don’t think Bayless ever worked out for the Blazers. It seems strange that KP would draft a player that didn’t work out for him. Did the Blazers send some people to take a look at him when he was working out for other teams?

2. His arms are short. I mean really short, as in they look unatural on his body. D.J Augustine and Bayless have the same wingspan. It really bothers me when I see him play because all I can see is his short little Tyrannosaurus Rex arms.

1. We did not workout Rudy and that should turn out OK. I would imagine that KP has done his homework and even asked the janitor at U of A if he cleaned up after himself, in KP we trust. 2. KP has talked about adding toughness and Bayless would fit the bill perfectly, I mean he already has T-Rex arms, the mentality surley comes with it right?

Lopez instead of Bayless?

Yeah, sure. Another young center prospect. That’ll go over well in SEA/OKC.

Another move to alienate the fans?

They may have to stay there another 2 years and this would piss them off even more to get an overrated big.

Clay Bennett is an evil genius much like Carl Rove, he is using the disgust and appall approach to the Sonics.

I find it wierd when reading about the trial, having to differentiate between “the City” and “the Sonics” as it takes a while to process that back and realize that they are trying to be not the same.

“The Sonics attorney questioned the city of Seattle’s witness to validate the claim,” just seems wierd.

If they move to OKC I hope they do it

And if the stay in Seattle I hope they draft someone good.

I don’t blame OKC fans for wanting an NBA team, but stealing it is bad karma and they will never be good. Sorry guys!

Bennett is worse than Hitler, and smells worse than Stalin. Drafting Lopez would be awesome, because he will not be very good for a lottery pick. You get a guy in the top 5, where he might go, you want (hopefully) a future star. Does ANYONE, ANYWHERE, see Brook Lopez becoming a STAR? He’s got role player all over him.

And yet, he’s still seen as a lottery pick.

George Carlin is dead, but Clay Bennett is still alive. If the Blazers weren’t so awesome, I’d be questiong the direction of the universe a lot more right now.

Bayless would be lovely

If we get that #5 from Memphis, I am all for it… when bayless and roy the dynamic duo lead us to a title.. Memphis will gently touch their face and remember the good times when they were heartily pritchslapped

Other Deals.

Ford reported that Memphis and Portland have been talking. They want to get rid of a bad contract (2 years and $12 million), and Portland has offered to take the player plus give them LaFrentz. There may be other pieces. Ownership apparently wants a lower payroll. However, NY and, I imagine, others are also in there pitching – so we’ll see. Also been talking to the Nets about Jefferson. Very fluid right now. Chad doesn’t think Portland will keep 13, but if they do, he doesn’t think they’ll draft for today, but someone to stick O/S and let mature for trade bait next year.
