Ridiculously Stupid Trade?
I know that a lot of us here are glad we didn't draft the 'stache, but what about trading to get the 'stache (and the number 9 pick)?
In reviewing Ford's Mock Draft, he indicated that the Bobcats are looking for a big man who can play some center. I know Frye played the 5 for some periods during the summer. What if we did this:
Traded to the Bobcats: Jack, Frye, and #13 pick.
Traded to Blazers: Morrison and #9 pick.
It seems like a lot to give up to move up four spots and makes us a bit heavy on the SF (wiithout really establishing a dominant player - just a lot of potential). If we drafted a PG, we would have 4 on the roster so another move would need to be made.
That might allow a secondary trade of say Jack or Sergio for Seattle's second first round pick and a trade exception (they have several). Thoughts?

pretty fair
the contracts match up… and the picks do too. the only question is whether Westbrook or Augustine will be there at 9. DJ most definitely will, but Westbrook might go as early as 6 or 7. but if Westy falls to 9, I’d totally pull the trigger on this trade.
DJ i snagged by the knicks
no way he is there as he’s the second best point in the draft.
We’ll see. I’ll eat a whole bowl full of ice cream if I’m wrong. I’m that sure.

The ‘Stache is useless until proven otherwise, so we better be absolutely in love with someone available at #9 to make this deal.

Bobcats
would not do this though, they are probably not ready to give up on morrison who was injured all last year, just like were not letting GO go. And they probably wouldnt even want Frye that much.
True, it doesn't cost them much to keep Morrison this year
and see what he’s got. The problem is that the Bobcats saw what he had in his rookie season, and it wasn’t pretty. If they could get Martell as a replacement, I’ll bet they’d jump at it, unless they are more in love with one of the lottery draftees.

That trade is a huge gamble.
Adam Morrison has already been labeled a bust by anyone who knows anything. Of course, no one knows as much as they think they know, and everyone has been wrong before (I was even wrong once). moving up up four spots is not that big of an advantage for playing Russian Roulette with an automatic firearm (to pun AmMo horribly and distastefully).
Sure Westbrook and Augustine look pretty good, but dang, not that good. Westbrook is overrated, in my opinion, and Augustine is too short. And as they say, you can’t teach height. I’d rather take a flyer on Chalmers, since we wouldn’t have to give up any of our actual players to get him. I hear Orlando wants some second rounders for their first….

There was one time.
Just once, but it cost Jscot his entire budget for ruling the world.

How does that make you wrong?
Whoever we draft may turn out to be the REAL #1 pick. It will take a few years to know. That’s good, because it means if you can’t be proven wrong, then no one can say you are fallible.
I don’t see how your being wrong cost jscot his budget, but don’t explain it to me. I’m afraid of the links TiH might post.

As usual
he’s overrating his importance.
Besides, world rulers don’t actually need a budget.
The only thing it cost was his dream of making financial secretary in my administration. In my compassion, I will never put someone in such a position who makes mistakes. I hate liquidations, and would not want them to be made necessary….

If I didn't overrate my importance,
it is unlikely that I would have any at all. And not having any steps all over my fragile ego. I greatly prefer to assuage myself with grandiose aspirations, and as a result, I will continue to believe that I am your financial secretary whether or not that is the reality. Some may call that insanity, but I call it job security.

You might believe that
but faith without works is dead. Until you can actually figure out a way to act upon this belief, your fragile ego (what a load of hogwash!) is likely to be stepped upon repeatedly. It seems about as likely that your poor ego will break as it is that mine will.

I dont get the bust label
He had a poor to mediocre first year and then was injured all of last year. I dont think he will ever outplay the like of Brandon Roy, Randy Foye, and Rudy Gay, but I think he has a good chance to be a Korver or a Kerr in this league. Dont hate on the player hate on the hype machine that tried to sell us the next Larry Bird
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
Augustine will grow his afro
no one will see over him.
His long arms make up for his other height issues…. and then he rocks the league.

Aldridge might turn out to be injury prone (though I hope not, knock on wood). Frye looks like he’s ready to break out. Frye likes it hear and is willing to come off the pines. To me that equals = DON’T TRADE FRY.
I like this trade if we send Martell instead of Channing
Dave’s already explained in his Friday post about the contract situation with Martell. If they want to make room for an impact free agent next summer, Morrison’s rookie contract is cheap and will expire this summer with a team option to extend it one more year.
I’m with Blazersaurus: I like Frye!
My only concern about the #9 pick is whether Augustin, Westbrook, or Alexander will still be around by then.

But against me in that I'm not sure I want to trade Webster
I want one of them saucy point guards but I just cant see riding out Martell one more year to see if he really starts to gel as an NBA player. If he’s giving 110 and doing what he’s asked then… well let us open our Blazerbibles to chapter 12 verses 7-9. “And so did Traitor Bob send away young Jermain for an aging all-star just beforeth he could showeth his promise. And he, so recently signed to an inexpensive long term deal, did become one with the heavens himself in the Eastern Conference sky with many All-Star appeaarances of his own.”
Verily I say unto you, shouldeth we trade our youngling well bodied child just three years after drafting him?
I have yet to be convinced.

Martell's and Jermaine's situations have little in common
Martell is turning into a solid player, which is probably his ceiling. Jermaine was busting the other bigs on the 1999 team in practices but couldn’t get into games because that team was so deep with star veterans. He became a star in Indy. Martell’s ceiling is probably Mike Miller or Matt Harpring.
Trader Bob deserves heat for a lot of things he did, but he really had no choice about trading Jermaine, who was beginning to grumble publicly about his lack of PT. That team had enough PT issues with everyone else that the last thing Blazers management wanted was Jermaine adding his voice to the chorus. Besides, Jermaine deserved a chance after five years with Portland. It was the right thing to do at the time.
Again, read Dave’s Friday post, Option 3. KP may have no choice but to deal Martell.

Why do people criminally underrate Mike Miller?
Mike Miller v. Martell Webster (2007-2008 Season) ...
Player Efficiency Rating: Miller (16.18) > Webster (12.07)
Net On-Court/Off-Court +/- Production: Miller (+3.4) > Webster (-2.1)
Net Points Per 100 Possessions: Miller (+3.3) > Webster (-3.4)
True Shooting Percentage: Miller (62.5%) > Webster (54.8%);
Assists Per 48 Minutes: Miller (4.7) > Webster (2.0);
Assists Per Turnover: Miller (1.32) > Webster (1.08);
Rebounds Per 40 Minutes: Miller (9.1) > Webster (6.7);
A deal in which Webster, Channing Frye, Sergio Rodriguez, and Josh McRoberts are traded for Miller would, without a doubt in my mind, vastly improve the Portland Trail Blazers—and that’s that!
I didn't say Miller is a bad player
He’s a solid player and starter, which is what I see Martell becoming someday. Maybe that’s exactly what we need him to be. It’s just that I think if we have a chance to grab the next Chris Paul (Ausgustin) or Gary Payton, it’s worth giving up Martell.

Is Ammo even on their stat site?
http://www.82games.com/0708/0708CHA.HTM doesn’t show him as being a member of the Bobcats at all. Strange. If we lost Webster in the trade, we’d have Outlaw starting at the 3. He’s a bit over-sized and Jones isn’t the player we want long-term, so that’d create a different problem.
So long as Brook Lopez is still available with the 9th pick, the ...
Charlotte Bobcats wouldn’t make that trade. A frontline of Lopez and Emeka Okafor - who, for all intents and purposes, will most likely re-sign with the Bobcats - would create an outstanding defensive tandem down in the interior. Nazr Mohammed and Sean May would form satisfactory reserve frontcourt, too—especially in lieu of being starters.
Anyhow, the Portland Trail Blazers need to focus on solidifying the small forward position via a trade during this off-season. Martell Webster, Travis Outlaw, and James Jones are all role players - no matter how much hope some of y’all have for Webster and Outlaw - thus, they’re not the collective answer for a ballclub with title aspirations.
A trade whereby Webster, Channing Frye, Sergio Rodriguez, and Josh McRoberts are dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies for Mike Miller - who’s an amazingly efficient shooter, skilled playmaker, and solid rebounder for his position - could solidify the Blazers’ current quandry at small forward. Plus, it’d alleviate potential salary cap issues next year.
Regarding the point guard position, Kevin Pritchard must attempt to trade up for Russell Westbrook. Westbrook, who’s a lockdown perimeter defender and a versatile combo guard, would form a well-rounded backcourt alongside Brandon Roy. While Westbrook is a bit raw on offense, his deficiencies would be compensated by Roy.
However, it’d probably take something like the Blazers offering Outlaw, Jarrett Jack, and the 13th pick (e.g., Brandon Rush) to the Los Angeles Clippers for Tim Thomas and the 7th pick (i.e., Westbrook) to seal the deal. There’s worse backup power forwards out there than Thomas, though, while Outlaw is frequently overrated by several folks.
