The History of Blazers Edge?
I've been going to this site for well over a year now, and it's always been Dave doing the posts (and now Ben, of course). What I'm wondering is how did this site spring forth? Was Dave the founder of it? How did he found this thing? Was he hanging out on some other SB Nation blog and just jumped into it? For some reason this nags me a little bit (I suppose it happens during the summer after school is done).

It's probably not my place...
to answer this but I know a few of the facts of the case so I will and others can correct me where necessary.
Blazersedge was founded by Lance Uppercut. Mr. Uppercut then morphed into Casey Holdahl (I hope I spelled your name right, Casey) and took over for Eric Marentette over on Oregon Live. When he did so, he asked Dave, who had his own blog called Blazers Thoughts, if he would like to take over this blog.
Dave accepted, bringing a few loyal readers – including a fat guy who wrote in blank verse and a lecherous old grump – with him.
The rest, as they say, is history.
On a personal note, I’ve had a chance to meet both these guys (Dave and Casey, not Fatty and the lech) and they are both very good, very knowledgeable people. Blazerland is blessed that way.
Eric was a great guy, too, until he went to the dark side…

I feel bad for Eric
He probably has to go to the orphanage every day and pick out a new baby for Kobe to eat. Kobe is such a jerk! Eric was hired for website stuff, and look at what Kobe makes him do—orphaned baby soup wrangler.
It wasn’t in his job description!!

And don't forget, it wasn't until long after Dave took over . . .
. . . that the Bedge joined the SB Nation fold.
This place existed independently for most of what -ken just laid out.

Actuallly
Lance was still at the helm when it joined SBNation in March, 2006. His first post was pretty funny (like the mention of the Blazers having no good players under contract. How quickly things have changed.)

Slightly tangental, but not quite O.T.
since I think it has to do with our personal history … on our “blog memberships” in our profiles is “U.I.D.” followed by a number. Does that number indicate what number we were in joining the blog? If not, what?

I claimed mine right after the new format change
but not only do I not have a UID, it shows I’ve only been a member since April 2008. I feel small and inconsequential…

It looks like your DO have a UID
Check the lower half of the your profile page, in the “Blog Memberships” section. It lists you as UID 1000, which is pretty cool in my book.

I’m 97!!!
I’d rather be a couple of different numbers, but I’m less than 100 and still an A, so I’ll live.

It all started with Lance Uppercut
aka Casey, over at blazersbasketball.blogspot.com. After a while of that, they moved over to SB Nation….I was reading through some of the old stuff and WOW! Casey predicted that Adam Morrison would be a bust, that LMA was the best player in the draft along with Brandon Roy. He also said that the next best player available was Rudy Gay. He totally nailed it. Also, he said that Leon Powe would be a solid pickup in the 2nd round. The dude was spot on.
Anyway, click on Lance Uppercut’s name and read his blog to see some of the history of the Bedge. Great stuff.

Well...
I predicted those things too, except for leon Powe and I still think foye is good and we’ll see this year.
All the people who didn’t use the “local boy” as the excuse to draft Morrison were generally dead on as they predicted “don’t take him”. That’s what I remember anyway. I’m too lazy to find facts to back me up.

I liked
LMA, Roy, Gay, and even Bargnani.
I hated hated hated the idea of drafting Morrison. He just did not look like an NBA player to me. It was so screamingly obvious that people liked him for other reasons than how he’d do in the NBA.
I called Sheldon Williams being a role player at best, and even though I liked Gay I worred about him the most. He had a good chance of being like Darius Miles; had #1 pick talent, but the knock on him was EFFORT and ATTITUDE. He had an up n’ down freshman season, and fell from a potential #1 pick before the college season started to all the way to #9… which seems crazy in retrospect, but it shows how hard it can be to tell how a talented player will adjust to the NBA. He could have gone the Darius way and become complacent. I’m glad he didn’t.
So, right now, I look wrong about Bargnani. He might turn out okay though. I definitely wanted LMA over him.
I said Roy was being way undervalued like Josh Howard and Prince were, and I also used Wade as an example because people didn’t think he had a ton of upside when he was drafted. I think Foye is good (not great) now, but didn’t like him then because of being an undersized shooting guard who is forced into a PG role. That is my least favorite type of player, I think.
For some time now, I think Brandon Rush is the guy being undervalued in the Granger/Roy/Howard/Prince way.
I don’t think I followed things as closely as I do now, and can’t say I knew anything about the 2nd round, so I couldn’t make any really cool predictions like that. I also don’t watch a ton of college basketball. I’m a fake :-(

I definitely don't follow now like i used to
two years ago i lived in portland and had a friend into college b-ball so I got to see some of the guys play.
Since then… no b-ball for me and all i can do is read reports. Frustrating.

Once upon a time there was a website
made of nothing but twigs and mud. Casey was wearing nothing but skins and using commador 64 computer (with a printer that contained a bird that pecked on a stone tablet ala the Flintstones).
