Mario Chalmers

This kid would be a great fit for our team....I'll just state the facts.

Clutch...Good D....Good Outside Shot...Can pass....can drive...can score....can hit the big shot...National Champion....Young....Good size for a PG...late 1st rounder...Plays under control....No obvious mental issues....

His stock is high and low at the same time.  He hit one of the biggest shots in college history, and yet isn't mentioned as one of the top pg's of his class.  I watched the Mcdonalds All star game and he was a blue chip prospect coming out of high school.  He can score and was primarily one however three years Later at KU, he played like a PG...that can score and play lockD.

So what do ya'll think? I think he'll have a lot of success in this league based on his progression at KU.  He seems like a pg nate would Like and he can defend the perimeter well.  Players that hig big shots like the one he did usually...do it again.

I gotta feeling he'll be ours draft day...we trade our 13 for something unexpected and make another trade to get in the bottom 3rd of the 1st round.  That my friends...is based purely on nothing but my own gut instinct.  Mario Chalmers will be a starting PG in this league and he'd be a good fit with our other team.

I'd take BRush too,  Westbrook was a player i brought up here months ago but it doesn't seem like it's gonna happen...What is going to happen??? IT's our last major draft folks...i'll miss looking forward to late June...thinking hoping analyzing... But enjoying championships will be much more fullfilling...

No Kirk Heinrich please but i'll take Ben Gordon...Tayshaun Prince without a doubt.  Shane BAttier would be just as good if not a step behind...Don't dare think of trading Pryzbilla.  Teams are gonna get physical with us, they're gonna attempt to intimidate, push us around,  talk some trash...anything.  Joel is pretty much the only guy on our team that gets into it with other teams...unless you count Jarret Jack in the last game in Phoenix which made me so proud.

by next year we will need some players that have rings...players like Horry, DFish, and now James Posey are invaluable in terms of "having been there before".

His assist to turnover ratio was like second out of all guards currently in the draft

Only Ty Lawson was ahead of him, if memory serves me well. The Sacramento King blog has a nice link somewhere…ahh here it is. Draft express breaks the guards down, and it looks like Mario fared alright.

Chalmers is very good statistically

You can make a pretty good argument for Chalmers being better than many of the top guard prospects in this draft (Mayo, Bayless, Westbrook etc) if you compare their production in college this year. In addition, he obtained those stats playing for a top team that faced very good opposition. He’s a great defender, clutch, a winner… I don’t understand why he isn’t higher in the mock drafts.

I agree with you

I was a GM in the mock draft and I perused a lot of them (mock drafts, not GMs…if only I could call and chat with NBA GMs for suggestions about my online mock draft…::sigh:: maybe one day when I’m rich and famous) to get an idea of who the Spurs were looking at. In all of them, teams were selecting Chalmers from 26-30: at the very bottom of the first round.

Two of our three second-rounders and $3 mill in PA pocket change could probably move us up into the first round again—especially if we deal with a tax-conscious team with a good scouting department (the first to avoid doling out a guaranteed contract, the second cuz they’ll have guys already targeted in the second round as interesting prospects) like…the Spurs, for example.

I don’t think he’ll be a starting PG in the league - IMO his ceiling is a slightly better Steve Blake, cuz that’s the kind of player he is - and we haven’t really been talking about him cuz he’s not a long-term answer to the point guard question, but I definitely like him as part of the puzzle. Go get ‘im, KP.

To Quote DraftExpress

Comparisons: Best Case: Jarrett Jack Worst Case: Daniel Ewing

That’s all I got to say about that.

I don't understand why they are Jack as a "best case" for Chalmers

If you compare what Jack did in college with Chalmer’s production, Chalmers is clearly a better shooter and a better passer. I think that Chalmers is a better defender as well.

Not only does it seem reasonable to expect Chalmers to be better player than Jack, his playing style doesn’t seem very similar. I think Steve Blake is a better comparison, though I think Chalmers is a bit more athletic than Blake and a slightly better shooter.

Had I seen him play

I would agree with you. But… I live and die by the internet and I have to agree with DraftExpress.

Maybe I'm missing something.

but calling Midget’s post crappy seems a tad bit insulting. I think he makes a decent case, although Chalmers sounds most similar to one Blazers second round pick from last year who went to Denver.

Chalmers is very underrated

And yet he is not anywhere near a lottery pick. His defense is better than any PG in the draft (And that includes Westbrook imo). His shooting is better than any PG in the draft. But he was a part-time PG at Kansas as Russell Robinson was the primary ball handler among starters and Collins played major minutes doing the same. Chalmers led the team in assists, the Big 12 in steals (3 years in a row), and would rather set up a teammate than score himself. Mario has the quickest hands I have ever seen. Even so, he always gave the impression that he could post 30 if needed. He did just that in the Big12 tournament championship game against Augustin this year.

Tom, I don’t think Mario is at all like Jack.(I realize that it is DE’s comparison) At GT, Jack had to carry the team. Not so for Chalmers. At GT, Jack was a good distributor but Mario was a bit better. Jack’s strength is driving to the hole. Chalmer’s strength is taking what the defense gives him and shooting from the outside, cutting backdoor, catch and shoot, or driving. I was a fan of Jack before we drafted him and still am. I have watched Mario in clips from AAU games and HS games through the McDonald’s game and for three years at KU (over 70 games I think) and this post from Miget is spot on that we would do well to trade up into the 20-25 position and use it on Mario – especially if we do not get a perimeter defender at 13.

Finally, the even better perimeter defender and athlete that likely will be available at 13 is Brandon Rush. That may tip the scale towards a big later.

Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

The part I liked best was that you didn't offer our guys in trade for him.

Hopefully he’s a lot like another Mario we all know and love, except maybe not on ‘shrooms.

I’m Super!

possibly

trade our 3 second rounders to pick him up, leaving us with better roster space and a chalmers, maybe trade jack and the #13 to move up getting rid of another G
