Much discussion has been about the cap space plan and other various financial assets but here is my question to you: If you were KP what contracts would you offer to our players when their time comes? Granted we cannot predict players progressing or regressing in skill, nor can we speculate how much $$ is important to individual players, is it important to be on a winning team with a lot of guys you like? or is it better to take the $$ and run to greener pastures.
While those questions are difficult to answer the best we can do is speculate.
Here are the salary situations in the years to come
2008-09
Raef: Player option lilely to opt-in for $12.7
Jones: 50/50 to opt-out, if opt-out I would offer a 3 year $4/yr deal $12 total/3yrs
Work out an extension with Frye for $5/yr for 4 years
Work out an extension with Webster for $5/yr for 3 years
Trade Jack and the 13th for the 7th or 8th (Gordon or Westbrook) and filler
2009-10
Extend TO at $8-9/year for 4 years
Extend Blake at $4/yr for 3 years
Use cap space to sign super-role player FA at $8-9/year or maybe not
2010-11
Extend Roy at $14/yr for 6yrs
Extend Aldrige $14/yr for 6 yrs
Resign Joel for $6/yr for 3 years
2011-2012
Extend Oden at $15/yr for 6 yrs
So we will have in 2011-12
Considering Roy, LMA, Oden, TO, Webster, Fryes contracts all raise about 8%/yr
Roy $15mill
LMA $15mill
Oden$15mill
Outlaw $9mill
Joel $6.5mill
Webster $6mill
Frye $6mil
Blake $4mill
Jones $4mill
FA 2009 $8-9mill
Gordon/Westbrook $4mill
McBob $1mill
Sergio $2mill
That comes to about $96.5 million dollars, figure the cap in 2011 will be about $65-70million. For comparison we are paying $74mill and the cap is $55mill.The Mavs are highest at $105mill, followed by
NY: $88mill
Den: $81mill
Cle: $81mill
Bos $75mill
Portland: $74mill
It would be expensive buut trophies are worth it.
