Rudy
Does we already know what jersey number R-nandez will wear next year?
I believe he should be a starter next season...at least by Christmas. I would start him at SF or move Brandon to either the 1 or the 3.
My reason is that he already is a better scorer than Travis or Martell. His defense will likely be bad, but we should have a good interior presence next season.
(I apologize if this conversation has been previously discussed, just call me a noob and move on to another fanpost).

3 is SF
If he started at the 3 (SF) then Brandon will prob stay at the 2 (SG)

Yeah, I know
I said I thought he should start at the 3 or (implied at the 2) have Brandon move to the 1 or 3

noob
i’m now moving on.
Blake brings it up on the right, swings it to Webster on the elbow, he moves around the key and passes to the low left block for Aldridge, Aldridge jukes baseline, turns back in and finds Roy cutting down the seam, ROY THROWS IT UP AT THE RIM FOR ODEN WHO THROWS IT DOWN FOR THE TWO HANDED MONSTER JAM!!! BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA!!! -Wheeler '08-'09

just kidding
I bet he comes in as a super sub. BRoy will start as the 2, then play 1 with Rudy as the 6th man in for Blake.
Book it.

#5 is probably the best bet.
Rudy will likely wear #5, as that is what he already wears and the number isn’t taken. Sergio wore #11 in Spain. He also has a sister in the WNBA who wears #5.

It would make sense to keep him at SG
So, I doubt he’ll start next year over Roy. I can’t see a 175 pound guy guarding Lebron as working out that well.

He has stated that he wants the numero cinco,
I will have to page alamart to translate this strange dialect.
The # is not the real question, the REAL question is: Is he going to have Fernandez on the back of his jersey? Or Rudy?
That my friends is the REAL question.
I will see if I can find the link but it may be in the ones where he announces he is coming over.

The Blake/Roy/MarWeb trio is good enough to be game 1's starters.
The whole early season will be all about testing Rudy,
what are his limitations, what are his strengths, how does he progress with development?
And at the end of all of that, down the road, what position will he BECOME best suited for?
- If he seems to be filling out physically and will be strong enough to defend NBA small forwards,
then he can remain a SF in the NBA, just as he was in Spain.
- If he doesn’t show that size/strength capacity, but proves to be a huge scoring threat
(both as a perimeter assassin and as a drive-to-the-rim guy) without a point-quality handle,
then he’s undoubtedly a shooting guard, and he’ll have to be Roy’s sub unless Roy can be moved to the point.
- If he has those scoring abilities but turns out to be a crafty passer and develops superior court vision,
then he will receive strong consideration as Roy’s co-guard without shoving Roy into a pure point-guard mold.
How he develops, especially over the first half of the season, will dictate what the Blazers plan for him
down the road as part of the big picture; I think they’re gonna try to not have a prejudice about that right away.
But for OUR part, as Blazer fans and astute observers, we’re not so much advocating
putting him in a category box right away so much as we are forecasting what he’ll turn into.
For me, I think he’ll end up proving to be Roy’s co-guard, in a non-traditional backcourt of two tall combo guards.
But I’m glad the team is taking the approach of observing him for a while before forming that opinion themselves.
Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

I like it.
The “astute observers” might be the only questionable part ;)

Nice breakdown
Rudy could work out a lot of ways, and the nice thing is he seems versatile enough for it to be good no matter which way it goes. Instant offense, starter with Roy, it’s all gravy.
What I HOPE (I’ll wait till I see Rudy in the NBA before a FOR SURE prediction) is that Rudy and Roy can share PG duties and SG duties, Martell remains the SF, LMA and Oden (natch) down low, and Trout comes off for instant offense. Blake and Joel become one of the better backups in the league, and we all hold hands and kiss each other’s noses.
But, it doesn’t have to be that way for Rudy to be good. That’s a nice thing. Could go a lot of nice ways.

"Blake and Joel become one of the better backups in the league"
How are they going to do this? Will it be a symbiosis like Sergiak or Steve Jack/Jarrett Blake?
Oh, I get it. They’ll be holding hands and kissing each other’s noses. Right. Ick.

I also like the idea
of RudyRoy or RoyRudy backcourt. Since that will leave Travis as the instant offense guy. Whoever I also see it as an evolving process with some bumps here and there and varying Starting lineups (ala Jack-Blake last year).
I was looking at the youtubes of him and focusing on his handles and passing and if he can bring even 75% of that over here I can see him being co-guard with Roy
PS Trade the pick

What/who should we trade the pick for?
Do you want us to move up in the draft , acquire a veteran, or acquire future considerations?

The latter 2
I am not really in favor of adding a 3rd rookie for this year. I would like a vet…..but if that doesn’t come about , then future pick

Backup at SG
Rudy has to get used to the speed and power of the NBA, so he
will start (finish) playing 70 % of his minutes with the white unit.
He’s too skinny to play SF on defense and I think Webster will make
a GIANT leap forward this season on both ends of the court.
Rudy will still get 22 – 26 minutes a game and will give the white
unit a great one-two punch with Outlaw. JJ will be the penatrator,
Joel the anchor in the middle and Buffet will pop and run.
What a GREAT 2nd unit !!
DO A DEAL COINCAST !!! BRING BACK OUR BLAZERS !!!!!
It's GO time !
