Who Do The Blazers Pick?

You've been following the Mock Draft all morning.  If not, it's right below.  You can see who's on the board and who has gone.  The Blazers are up next.  You can help decide who Portland picks.

Simply register a vote for your player of choice in the comment section below.  One comment, one vote.  Don't give us a laundry list of possibilities...make it clear and simple.  One vote per person as well.

When polling closes your votes will be weighed in with the three guys in the Blazer war room to determine a final draft pick.

This thread will close at 1:00 p.m. Pacific.  Have your vote in by then!

There’s no really good PGs left on the board

Can never have enough good young big guys. Sets us up for a great trade opportunity.

Somehow work out a trade for Mayo (are the Knicks stil crazy) or Gordon (he dropped so far, maybe (NJ?) won’t value him that much.

Batum

I think Alexander is too duplicative of Outlaw. We can leave Batum overseas, which is an advantage, and his potential as a shooter and defender is high

DeAndre Jordan

Can you imagine Oden, Aldridge, Jordan and Frye as our rotation?

We already passed on Jordan once!

Deandre Jordan

For three reasons:
1. I think a big, athletic Center is a valuable trade asset
2. Both our centers have been injured and out for most or all of a season before and another body wouldn’t hurt, especially during practice.
3. Joe Alexander seems like a copy of what we already have, but without as much trade value.

Though really we should trade the pick, as other than Westbrook and Rose I don’t think there’s anyone in the first round that our team could actually benefit from drafting.

Alexander or Jordan; but trade down .....

Not that Alexander is a player, just hoping it came out a different way. Rush is a stretch at #13, but possibly you can trade down?

Some players with roughly equal salary to Jack, you can take trade away Jack/13 for their pick and a future 1st rounder…

Please, do not get fooled into drafitng Jordan. He’s not a young prospect struggling against NBA centers. He’s a young prospect struggling against other young guy prospects. Kevin Love has schooled him every time they’ve faced each other. He didn’t produce in college. He has shown few signs of improvement. He’ll be a bust. Michael Olwakandi. Patrick O’Bryant, etc, etc.

DeAndre Jordan

Then work a trade for Bayless, Mayo, Westbrook or Eric Gordon by packaging some combination of Frye, Jack, Raef or 2nd round picks. If you can’t make that trade we have two centers we can trade Pryz or Jordan depending on who fits our team better. Great pick for the blazers either way.

Trade #13, Jack and a 2nd rd pick for westbrook

Alexander would be acceptable.

I’d also be ok with CDR.

I like Lance’s idea. Trade down a couple of spots to pick Rush or CDR and acquire an additional pick (1st rd or 2nd – this draft or future draft – doesn’t matter).

or, whoever our trade partner wants us to take.

by abdelnaby on Jun 13, 2008 12:38 PM PDT reply actions

DeAndre Jordan

No matter whom the Blazers select with the 13 pick, the player will not crack the rotation. While many people are saying Joe Alexander, how much playing time would he receive? With Martell Webster, Travis Outlaw and James Jones in front of him, Joe Alexander will see little playing time.

The team has two options: 1) try and acquire a player already selected above… or select the BPA with the hopes of trading down. At this point, DeAndre Jordan has the most intrigue for teams below us and even some teams above. NJ taking Gordon looks nice, but Vince Carter is signed long term and it doesn’t look like he is going anywhere. Trading them DeAndre Jordan and Channing Frye would give them a competitive enough team that we could possibly snag Gordon (he would be the perfect combo guard for Roy.) Russell Westbrook seems like he would be acquirable because Milwaukee views Ramon Sessions as their future starter at PG, so draft another defensive minded player who plays wing. Rush from Kansas would work. If you are trading down, don’t take Joe Alexander because there are still too many SF on the board (Greene, Batum) that other teams would select rather than trading up for)

by Salem Stephen on Jun 13, 2008 12:50 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

Exactly!

Grabbing Jordan would give us another trade asset that is different from Jack, Webster or Frye. Some teams will want guards, others will want forwards and, still, others will want Bigs for their frontcourt. With Jordan the PTB would be able to trade with just about anyone in order to acquire that one special piece.

At-Large GM for the Mock Draft

by Magnum on Jun 13, 2008 12:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I can see the logic...

in drafting Jordan, because I do think he has some trade value… and he’d be an easy guy for the Blazers to trade. On the other hand, I cannot advocate drafting a bust… because a) in order for it to be a good move, it requires other people being fooled, b) there’s always a decent chance that you don’t get a good offer and you’ll be stuck with him.

I honestly feel this kid is just going to get a rookie contract and call it good.

Trade the Pick!

How many rookies do we really need? Trade the pick to some crappy Eastern Conf. (take your pick!) team for their unconditional #1 next year plus “considerations”, then pick up a dynamite FA Veteran (next year) and start the string of titles. You could fill the pantry with Euros from our late round #1 next year and the “considerations”. Save the big guy some dough for all those signings he’s got comming up.

Colonel Rondo and his second round armada?

If Boston is determine to rebuild and cut salary isn’t two mid lotto pics and the right salary filler decent. Maybe not enough but better than what most teams get in that situation. I would prefer that over the Chris Paul package.

I hope and figure that the Trail Blazers could have the best of both worlds. I’ve never seen a more bountiful 2nd round. Its conceivable that the team could deal both lotto picks and still find some nice players in the draft. Players like Orlando Johnson, Lucas Nogueira, Kevin Jones, Will Barton are 1st rounders in most drafts even if its just based on hype and potential. Then you have some possible gems in such a deep draft like Machado, a couple guys that I personally like from Georgetown-their center Henry Sims and forward Hollis Tompson. Both high upside players that I would love to watch in the summer league. If PA were to ever buy into or trade into late first or second round now is the time. Give me Freeland, Diebler and four second rounders in the summer league with Rondo coaching.
