Brandon Roys Weakness
Saw this topic on realgm.com in general discussion forum and i was curiouse as to see what you guys think about it. Does b roy have a weaknes and if so what is it?Has he ever showed weakness in a game? For me sometimes he tends to disappears in games and he wont score for long streches but he eventually fills up the stat sheet so i guess thats all that matters.

Honestly
I don’t know if he has a glaring weakness. I guess the only thing I can say is that he’s only an All-Star, not a Super Star (if that’s really a weakness)...

Consistent FT shooting
His rookie year he shot 84%, and last he shot what, 75%? He really should be between 80%-85%, and he has a game which will get him to the line a lot and we need him to hit those.
Also, his rookie year, he started something like 1 for 25 from the three point line. After that, he shot over 40% the rest of the year and ended up with a good percentage (.377). This season, he was streaky from behind the line and dropped his percentage to .344; he could improve that.
Otherwise, aside from wanting him to do game changing dunks since we know he has that 40 inch vertical, he’s perfect and dreamy and when he screams “HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY” when fouled he is singing directly into my heart.

He's got two weaknesses...
he’s not clutch, and he’s way too slow. I don’t know how he became an All-Star.
Blake brings it up on the right, swings it to Webster on the elbow, he moves around the key and passes to the low left block for Aldridge, Aldridge jukes baseline, turns back in and finds Roy cutting down the seam, ROY THROWS IT UP AT THE RIM FOR ODEN WHO THROWS IT DOWN FOR THE TWO HANDED MONSTER JAM!!! He does have two weaknesses
First and foremost, he doesn’t usually set the tone early on in the game. He seems to have an ability to take over in the 4th when the game is on the line and the intensity is high. So, why not do it earlier on. Maybe we’ll be up a few points later on as a result and not have to rely on the last second stuff.
2nd is mentioned above. For having such a good mid-range game, he is very inconsistant with his freethrows.

He has none
Brandon Roy has nothing in the way of a very glaring weakness. He can do almost everything well or very well. The only exceptions to these I can think of are free throw shooting (as mentioned before) and three-point shooting.

He has only one weakness...
when he was an infant his mother dipped him by his heal in a solution to make him impervious!
Actually I think his only weakness is that he can get beat up a bit much over the course of the season, causing his production to drop. Although I think he’s realized this (comments during that Seattle tourney) and having the Aldridge-Oden tandem will help protect him as he wont have to dive to the rim through as many defenders.

not really waekness in B Ro's game
but the free throw idea is meritous and I thought Brandon started last season out of shape and needed a month to get his game smooth. I hope this season he comes into more prepared

out of shape?
when they showed up for pick up games a month before training camp, you honestly think he started the season out of shape? I would say it took a little bit for him to hit his stride, but I certainly wouldn’t say he was out of shape!

took time to hit his stride
I do think Roy came into last season in not the best shape. His game was clearly off early and after awhile he seemed to catch up and play like his rookie year. At the end of last season Brandon was clearly in better shape then he was at the start. Its not like I said he was fat.

I thought
he was beat up and worn down at the end of the season, while he was fresh and fast at the beginning. Do I have dyslexia?

I agree with you
Bow4Meow, I don’t think he was out of shape at ALL—just took some time to find his rhythm. Outlaw? He was out of shape, and all reports said so. Frye took some time to get in shape from the fat-boy Eddie Curry diet NY had him on. Roy played and worked out most of the summer and was in great shape.
He just was in a mini-slump is all, and there’s a huge difference. Just being in good shape doesn’t mean you play well, and vice versa. He broke out of his mini-slump way, way too soon for it to be just him ‘out of shape’.
He had to adjust to being the main guy, no Z-Bo to rely on, and find his playing rhythm he always talks about (he doesn’t like being held out, because he feels like he loses his flow… and before the season started, he was held out of a few pre-season games, remember?).
I think he was feeling confident and adjusted to being the star of the team by the end, so even though he was beat up and injured, he still played well.
If it had taken 1/4 to half a season like it took Outlaw and Frye, then yeah, I’d agree Roy was out of shape. I saw it more as him adjusting, just like LMA had to adjust once teams realized he’s another main scorer. Everyone knew who Roy was already, and what he could do, so they came out trying to stop it off the bat.

it was only an observation
It may not be correct but its what I think. Its just I thought Roy looked very rusty at the start of the year. Call it a mini-slump, but my impression was that after earning the Rookie of the Year award, Brandon may have very easily decided to take some time off. I dont know if he did that or not, but I did not think he entered the season at full potential. Im not sure coming out of a slump isnt just obfuscating the fact he wasnt as ready as he could have been. Now I feel like Im not just redefining but splitting hairs too.
You are right about taking over the reigns which is no easy adjustment. Establishing a rhythm is what Brandon did get into, but I still maintain with no verifiable proof that he wasnt in as good a shape as he could have been. Its not a slam on the guy. As to being beat up and playing well…. cant deny that … isnt that what happens to warriors?
Roy and Alldridge were help out of summer league play for obvious reasons. They’re too good for the Summer League and there was no sense in risking a freak injury to either. I only wish the PTB would’ve played off their decision to sit those guysby claiming it was due to gastritis. (James Edwards flashback)
Are we still good??
It didnt take 1/4th the year for Trout to emerge. Frye was inconsistent all year but I didnt see it for lack of conditioning.
Lets see how the guys show up this season.

definitely not out of shape
to start last year, Nate had him playing largely off the ball, which as we all know, he either isn’t as good at or as comfortable with as he is handling and creating shots. Right around the time of our 13 game winning streak, Nate allowed Roy to take over the majority of the ball handling, in essence making him our de facto PG. Plus, Nate runs a wicked crazy conditioning test which all players have to pass before playing, so if Roy passed that, he obviously must’ve been in shape!

I could be wrong
but i think he played off the ball during the alstar game and shined quite bright. I’m sure it helped having a confident, creative point in chris paul as a running mate. I think roy would be a better 2 if we had a better 1. I could be really wrong hear, just saying.

Pass it along to your buddies
at realgm.com in general discussion forum.
If he had a weakness in the pass, it was due to immaturity.
Next step in his evolution is SUPER-STAR. No more time for weaknesses.

With respect to the free throws
somewhere Roy said they had him trying a different form this year so it threw him off. If this is true then he should improve and that won’t really be a weakness anymore.

defense
just because he our best perimeter defender, doesn’t mean he is a great one (see Steve blake 2 years ago).
I would like to see him more active in the passing lanes and getting steals. He is probaly our best fastbreak option ecause he can either score or pass on the break

Roy's obvious weakness
He doesn’t dunk on people enough. The lack of poster quality facials served up by Roy is clearly his weakness.

Free throws and three point shooting
Also staying on his feet when driving to the hoop. They call him the Wade of the West for a reason, he gets banged up a lot.

Brandon Roy's weakness = his own body
My biggest fear for B-Roy is that he turns into another T-Mac. I really really reallyyyy hope Brandon can stay healthy and have a dominant career.
