Little OT: VINDICATION
On Martin Luther King Jr day I posted the question of whether refs rig the game. I got absolutely hammered in the comments. People said I was everything from an idiot to an irrational nutcase. The overwhelming conculsion by BEers was that the refs were just bad, and that I was paranoid for questioning whether it was coordinated.
I don't want to encroach on Dave's topic (if I've already done so, let me know and I'll delete it).
The question I want to ask is how many times have you been told you were an idiot for proposing the 'fixed' scenario or even the 'influenced' scenario? Did you cry?
Oh, and one more think, we need to relabel the 'conspiracy theory' as 'it's a business theory.' These are VERY seperate things, the nuance of which I've for so long failed demonstrate.
PS My friends called me an idiot the first time I said the WWF was fixed, that Santa wasn't real, and that there was most certainly a degree of corruption in presidential election that would be tantamount to electioneering.

Actually
Many homeless people do have some form of mental illness. Since he is a hobo, there is a good change he’s a little crazy.

I still wonder if illusion is a mental illness
or a need to keep mental health.

All of the above? We live illusory lives.
But really, I was just punning. Not very appropriately, unfortunately.

Katy? Sari? Catarrhi?
Actually, I think you’re the quiet, unassuming guy at the party who tells people exactly what you think of them or whatever the topic is. You leave them scratching their heads, wondering if they’ve just been flattered or insulted, or if they actually got the joke, if it was a joke. You have a wry outlook on life and wonder how you ever got so lucky. You’ve got a metaphorically really soft and squishy heart that you pretty much reserve for your wife and Carlos and the kittie…..................

No Bad
You forgot a dash of rebel rouser. Most people I meet don’t like me at first because I say so many stupid things. The first time I met one of Khara’s coworkers, I tried to convince her that she was a lesbian. It took her a couple of months to forgive me and now she likes me.

No, but we can watch American pro wrestling in a channel.
Though it is not one of my preferences. I prefer “Frazier”.

Stern is the Don King
of organized sports. NBA games are just too easy to fix. We’ve just gotten so used to “bad” officiating that we hardly question it any more. Stern will ignore this issue just like he does all the others. The NBA will go on, we all will still watch, and money will be made.

Sickening. Just sickening.
We gotta be able to trust our sports. If we can’t trust that our sports aren’t fixed, then we might as well kiss America goodbye. Cheaters like Donaghy and Canseco and Marion Jones oughta be banned for life after one transgression. Zero tolerance. And make them give back their rings and medals and loot. Humiliate them in public.
If Stern looked the other way while this was happening then he needs to be fired immediately.
I can’t stand being played for a chump.
Winning is everything.

David Stern reputation being hammered
what are fans supposed to think? That the ref’s are only human and capable of bad calls but that officiating with bad intent has never occurred. As a fan, its some justification to see Stern squirm.

Just cause you're a idiot, irrational nutcase
don’t make ya wrong. I know I am paranoid, the question is: am I paranoid enough?

There are two perspectives here
Neither are likely wrong (or idiotic). One perspective is that the league fixes the games it wants to fix as Donaghy has accused for the reasons he gives. The part of me that distrusts all things David Stern want to believe this. The other perspective is a crooked referee is singing to avoid more jail time and is able to point to things that already are suspicious and answer the calls such as yours to rally support for his claims.
I have watched parts of two finals games and both times turned it off because I dislike both franchises and watched as first one the then the other were clearly being hosed by the referees. It is a beautiful game and worthy of more respect than they seemed to give it. Does that observation mean that they were fixed? No way to know. But I don’t want to watch it.
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."
by lee3022 on Jun 11, 2008 10:00 PM PDT 0 recs
the only way the games are fixed is if the ref is in cahoots w/the mob
that is not to say the ref’s haven’t been “influenced” to attenuate certain outcomes. Nobody remember’s the Clyde/Buck/ref conflict?
