Interesting Calderon Article 2

Sorry if this posts twice, I hit preview and it disappeared.  Anyway, This is an article about what Jose said on his web site.  It sounds to me like he wants to come to Portland but that could be wishful thinking.  If I were in his place though and Rudy and Greg were coming to the Blazers I might think the same thing.  Anyone have any thoughts?  http://www.nationalpost.com/sports/story.html?id=501801

The conflict with Spain could help. Then we should get Garbajosa also in a trade. So our starting line would be Sergio, Calderon, Rudy, Garbajosa and Gregorio.

This could never happen

Can you imagine all the second-hand smoke the poor fans would be breathing in? You wouldn’t even be able to see the basket through the haze!

Yeah the press is finally getting a whiff of this

story I saw it in RealGM and it had a link to the Star article.

alamart, what is the Spanish basketball fans feelings about the whole Tor/Spanish federation/Garbo thing? I sometimes wonder if that is one of the reasons that Caldreon wants out as he and Garbo as good buds, perhaps this bodes well for us.

However I am scared that Caldy will wan to play for the Lakers more as they are much closer to a title than we are right now, however, Fisher and Farmar are pretty set, while out PG situation is up in the air.

Many Spanish people think

it would be better to be prudent regarding injuries and understand Raptor´s point of view. Spanish Federation, on the other hand, is at war with the Raptors.

Possible winning teams for Jose where he could start and win

Boston
Portland
L@kers
Portland
Cleveland?

I think that’s about it.

Boston would have a year or two window
Portland would ahve a LONG window
Lakers has a long and right now window
Cleveland needs more to really be in it, but gets the nod because of James.

So, out of those, where would you go if you wanted to win and you wanted a “sure ting?”

Myself, if I didn’t despise the lakers, I’d go there. That team is set-up to compete, doesn’t have a great PG, and would be a sure thing with Jose there.

Celtics I might also take if I wasn’t concerned about settling down.

The blazers would be a second choice.

Any other spots I missed that he could go and play starting pg?

Its a sign!!

It looks like a rose blooming, he’s coming here!!

YES WAY JOSE!!

If they do a sign and trade

Don’t you think they’d have to take out the teams in the east? I don’t think Toronto would want to make teams in their division stronger than yesterday.

and if toronto is on a timeline that is three years from now

then trading to the celtics who are this year and maybe two more, than can make some serious sense. Not sure how it would all work, just looking at where Jose would okay the going.

Both are good points

I still say if we could just get LeBron James and Chris Paul then all the holes in our roster would be filled.

Oh Yeah

If we could trade the 13th pick and Raef for Howard, would he be the back up center or would he move to power forward?

I think Dwight would stay a center, Oden would go PF and LMA would slide down to the 3

whoa

do I get some kind of award for using three different ways to say positoins (center, PF, 3) in the same sentence? With that lineup Trout would have to play the other wing and Roy could run the point.

Actually you got a double triple there

Not only three ways of referring to positions, but you refered to Dwight by his first name, Oden by his last name, and LMA by his initials.

Actually, those things sound terrible. At least JTDuck22’s sentence is understandable, despite the dissonance.

I think Toronto thinks

That they are a team for the now that is a good wing away from 50+ wins. I kinda agree with that sentiment as well. They SHOULD be a better team, but the Bargnani pick really hurts thus far (he still might become good though) and the PG conundrum really hurt the team chemistry. They have the same record as us in the weak East, but they got good players and are capable of being a good East team if they can somehow manage to get, I dunno, SOME wing who can score decently but defend more importantly.

So, they gotta figure out the PG problem, and hopefully get a good SG/SF out of it. I don’t see them trading to anyone they deem a rival… Celtics, Nets, Philly, etc. No Atlantic division mates, and probably no Eastern conference friends.

Why do you think they might feel like they are 3 years away? I might have missed something, but I’m pretty sure Colangelo is trying to win now and build on the 47-win Atlantic division winning team of last season. This year was a disappointment, so the pressure to win now is probably even greater than before. I don’t think they’ll trade Bargnani; him being good is still too important for the franchise ego and all. They can’t give up on him yet, nor do I think they should—he isn’t gonna be as good as LMA or Roy or Gay, but he SHOULD be a good scorer. The best bet to get better, and to solve the PG problem means trading Ford or Calderon, with Calderon being more tradeable because he can fall and probably not die. It helps US that Calderon wants to start and be on a good team, and the Raptors will likely be willing to oblige this wish as long as it doesn’t go to a rival and they get a good wing player back.

Celtics don’t have anyone Toronto would want in a trade for Calderon, out of the big 3. Same with Cleveland. Who would they want from the Lakers, if the Lakers probably didn’t prefer Fisher’s veteran guile and Farmar’s popularity? I am sure I need to do more research before I can be sure we’re the best option, but we got a great mix of youth people want with contracts that go down smooth, and lotsa draft picks. PLUS we’re gonna be good, making us a target for someone like Calderon. It could all work out where everyone gets what they want.

Well, I guess we can cancel the draft picks part, because we can’t do a sign and trade until after the draft, right? Hmmmmm…

I just think Toronto needs to win more now, and we got what they could possibly want and Calderon would want to play here over a Boston or Cleveland, if Toronto was even willing to trade him to one of those teams (which I seriously doubt). From reading media blogs and fan sites, Toronto wants to be right in the playoff/contender mix.

I dunno why, but I’ve always kinda like the Raptors and their devoted fans that write into every sports pundit who talks bad about them; it kinda reminds me of the Blazer fans I guess. I follow them a little bit. I thought they’d be close to 50 wins this recent season, because I expected Bargnani to get better and the team to be more well rounded than they were before. Unfortunately, they got lots of shooters but very few athletes and get killed on defense and don’t play fast enough to utilize their offense. They just should be better than they were…

If calderon is traded

then i see the raptors window in the now closing and it being bumped to a future time period.

If Calderon stays and they get a wing presence (as you mentioned) then maybe they can make a push. I think they need to work on their defense though and they just seem weaker than they should be for the talent they have. Actually… they need greg oden… interior defense and strong post scoring.

by raisedbed on May 10, 2008 4:56 AM PDT reply actions

No one uses exact words.

Language itself is an inference of actual things and actions, but is not those things and actions themselves. Except for maybe the words “speak” but then we are getting too deep into this. What I mean to say is that his language inferred certain things, and we have taken that inference to mean what we want it to mean. This is post-modernism in action!

Calderon is a Blazer. He is because we think he should be. And when’s the last time anyone thought they were wrong? Therefore they are not wrong. And the statement stands. I think I love post-modern thought. Therefore I do.

For post-modernism, there is a small twist.

I think, therefore I’m right.

If I think you’re wrong, obviously you must not be thinking. This explains the mystery that is the O-Live forum.

Oh NO

T (I feel like we’re on a first-name basis now)...T, tell me you didn’t just use the phrase “post-modernism” with a relatively straight face. Of all the buzzwords that I’ve come to hate being in college, that one tops the list.

The ratio of “I sprinkle references to post-modernism in my everyday speech” to “I’m a pretentious know-it-all who is actually scared to death by the other smart kids around me” is amusingly high. Now you are an obvious exception to this rule, so it doesn’t really matter. I just appreciate you giving me the opportunity to complain. It IS one of my favorite pastimes.

by BlazersOrBust on May 11, 2008 3:25 AM PDT up reply actions

I didn't mean to be straight-faced about it.

I was just poking fun at it. It is a catch-phrase, and justifies everything, unless of course its against you. While admittedly, there are many positive aspects to post-modernism, it has become an excuse to not engage in meaningful dialogue and to set ones own self up as a god.
