Should Mike D'Antoni Pull a Nate

I recently listened to Chad Ford's podcast with Marc Stein.  They talked about New York going after Mike D'Antoni for their head coach.  My first thought was that D'Antoni, should try to use New York, to get a higher salary, from the team he really wants to coach.  I did not think he should actually consider coaching the Knicks.  As they are now, no one in their right mind would want to coach the Knicks.  Most people think the team he should coach is Chicago.  Then I though, what he really should do, is pull a Nate.

Nate left a good team, with a cheap owner, for a crappy team, with Zach Randolph, and a owner who is willing to spend.  Everyone knows that the current Knicks roster will not work, and has to be blown up.  It will take a few years to rebuild, but he can help do the building.  I think D'Antoni should pull a Nate, and become the coach of the Knicks.

I changed my title.  I don't think off topic titles work for on topic fanposts.  My favorite color is blue.  It brings out my eyes.

I recommended this post.

It doesn´t deserve it but I´m used to recommend all Tom´s stuff and couldn´t stop my finger. Damnit!.

Since I know that you like the rice with milk, below the door I put a brick.

They could be just like the blazers.

They just need a GM from a successful team. Like KP who was from the Spurs. They have a GM from a good team. Donnie Walsh was from the…......ooh…...the pacers….never mind.

by Sabonis4Ever on May 9, 2008 2:32 AM PDT   0 recs

The Pacers have had success

They’ve made more finals appearances than us the last 10yrs, and might have a ring if they didn’t run up against Ewing or Jordan every post-season. They were a very well constructed team, one who anyone watching for the last decade would have seen win, get old, tear-down, retool, and win some more.

The only mistake was made during the retool when management thought “how much trouble could they get in…this is INDIANAPOLIS?!”.

by Devenex on May 9, 2008 8:26 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

No they haven't..

Making the finals from the east means very little and they’ve been a very mediocre team—they’ve never really been a contender.

by wepto on May 9, 2008 3:22 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

In the last 15 years ...

They’ve made the playoffs 12 times, the conference finals 6 times, and the NBA finals once. And the East hasn’t been week for too long. In the 90s (when the Pacers were having a lot of their success), the East was where it’s at. So, pretty successful if you ask me. Not San Antonio successful, but successful.

by bfan on May 9, 2008 5:00 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

East not deep since the 80s/early 90s

Since Detroit gave way to Chicago in the early 90s, the East has been playing second fiddle to the West in terms of number of serious contenders for a title. I wouldn’t argue the fact that the Pacers have been a successful franchise to some extent but the East hasn’t been “where it’s at” for 15+ years.

Okay.

The point I was trying to make Donnie Walsh did a pretty good job building the Pacers.

Beaten into submission

That is what I like. Just kidding, I couldn’t sleep and I got a bit persnickety.

Donnie Walsh did keep them competitive for a long time building around Reggie Miller for over a decade.

We'll eat more Knick salary and give'm the 13th pick.

And we’ll take their #1 in 2009 in return.
Donnie’s not as forward thinking as KP.
Dolan’s an idiot and PA is very smart.
They might do it.

What about D'Antoni for Cleveland?

Mike Brown is ludicrously bad at coaching, and LBJ fast-breaks well, so D’Antoni might be a good choice. Chicago is the accepted first choice, but I think Cleveland might be more interesting.

by rmcdougall on May 9, 2008 10:02 AM PDT   0 recs

That's not Bad

But NY is offering 6 million a year. Mike D just has to ride out the next couple of years and if the team is constructed properly, NY could be a real threat in five or six years. Imagine how good Phoenix would be if their owner wasn’t so cheap.

People knocked mike’s style after Shaq killed it, and yet needs to have management that is willing to pay the bucks to get and keep the players.

Maybe marion needed to go, but that’s a LOT of talent with very little in return.

I'm Calling It

Mike D’Antoni will be the next coach of the Knicks. Besides starting a job where he has no where to go but up, he’s going to get paid $6 million dollars a year. Chicago is offering $4 million dollars.

Let me break this down for you stat folks.

6-4=2
4/2=2

That means New York is willing to to pay D’Antoni twice as much, as Chicago is willing to pay him. How could he refuse twice as much money, and half as much expectation for immediate success? He can rake in all that money for at least two years, before anyone even looks at his record. Chicago is just a fool to believe, they have anything he needs. And Chicago has too much wind.

by tominhawaii on May 10, 2008 1:04 AM PDT   1 recs

I was in Chicago once...

and the wind wasn’t so bad. I think the whole “Windy City” thing is way overblown. That is why D’Antoni goes to Chicago to coach the next Steve Nash, Kirk Hinrich of course. The money can never compare to having an immediate contender in Chicago.

It's a little bit up in the air

(hehehe!) but the general consensus is that the nickname stems from the late 19th century and the sizable quantities of hot air comin’ from Chicago politicians at that time. There was a lot of back-and-forth between the press and the politicians in Chicago and those of the established, “traditional” cities of the time like New York and Philadelphia. The scribes and orators of the former were forever extolling the virtues (little bit of an inferiority complex, dig?) of the city and the populace—hence, the Windy City.

by BlazersOrBust on May 18, 2008 2:12 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh the winds there all right...

but it’s not a bad thing. Having lived in Chicago for a couple years, I know that the wind is fierce and can be manipulated with the right instruments. Much like the Chicago Bears choose to take the side going with the wind in their overtime contests, D’Antoni recognizes that for his attacking fast break style the wind is essential. By removing the roof of the United Center and reshifting the directions of elevated trains depending on the half, Aaron Gray can become Chris Paul. D’Antoni is no fool…

Mind if I Go off Topic?

I need a nemesis for the summer. I want someone who will disagree with whatever I say, and I will in turn, disagree with everything you say. If I say that seat belts save lives, you have to say they are not worth the trouble, because they wrinkle your clothes. I do not want any name calling or boorish behavior. I just want someone, who will not get offended, when I do not agree with them. If we keep it lighthearted, it could be a lot of fun.

I guess I am falling down on the job...

Steve Nash made D’Antoni what he is today and he will be a disappointment no matter where he goes unless he has a point guard who can shoot 50% from anywhere on the court with court vision that extends the full length of the floor.

I greatly apologize Tom

My earlier comment on Hansbrough was certainly out-of-line, and you received an emotional reaction from me. It must be especially difficult to receive a reply like that after such a well-thought out and considered comment. Let me make amends.

I actually do not wear a seatbelt for several reasons. The discomfort and wrinkle factors are frequently cited and thrown out in jest, but are not valid reasons.

1. Given the safety ratings on my Hyundai, I would much prefer to be thrown from the car in case of an accident.

2. Have you ever leaned too far foward and had the seat belt lock on you when you lean back into the seat. The tight restriction on the chest has been known to cause lung and breathing problems in the elderly.

3. Frequently, people have already started the engine when they begin the tricky seat belt buckling process. During the few moments of struggle to meet the belt with the buckle, we are unnecessarily emitting large quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere.

While these are all significant reasons, they do not compare to reason number four.

4. The most notable law firm working on seat belt safety and standards hail from the Newport Beach area and are admittedly L*ker fans. I give you: BISNAR AND CHASE

http://www.bestattorney.com/seatbelt_injury.html
http://www.bestattorney.com/in_the_news.html

Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) June 19, 2005—Bisnar | Chase is one of the most successful personal injury law firms in Southern California and its partners, John Bisnar and Brian Chase, are nationally recognized for their expertise in auto product liability. In the first five months of 2005, Bisnar | Chase recovered more than $10 million for its clients.

At the June 22 grand opening, nearly 40 items, including a Mercedes SL 500 donated by Fletcher Jones Motor Cars, a Wyland painting, and Angels and Lakers tickets will be auctioned off. The beneficiary of the charity silent auction, Gary’s Place for Kids, is a Laguna Hills-based charity that provides ongoing grief support for Orange County children who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

The new Bisnar | Chase offices reflect the quiet dignity of many law firms but also possess a stylistic flair characteristic of its partners. A conference room in the offices is decked out as a shrine to the Los Angeles Lakers, complete with a purple conference table, gold chairs and autographed photos of the biggest stars in action at some of the most memorable times in their careers.

“We deal with some very serious issues within the walls of these offices but we hope our Lakers conference room can bring a little levity to our meetings here,” explained John Bisnar.

The Lakers-themed conference room is separated from the lobby of the building, One Newport Place, by a glass wall, and brings a smile to passers by, who often stop to admire the unique décor.

“And while we cannot take all the credit, I’m sure that our dedication to the Lakers must have had some influence on Phil Jackson’s return as coach,” said Bisnar.

As you can clearly see, no true Blazer fan would wear a seat belt. Are you a true Blazer fan, Tom?

P.S. I still don’t like Hansbrough

With a good coach

the Knicks aren’t nearly as bad as they seem. The thing is their bench is better than their starters. If I were Dantoni, I’d go with a starting line up of Lee and Zbo up front, Balkman and Q at the wings, and Nate running the point. You’ll have great rebounding and 4 guys flying up and down the court, but with a solid low post scorers for when you’re in your halfcourt set. There will be points and possessions galore to pump up Z’s stats to keep him happy, especially since he’s sharing the frontline with guys who pretty much just score in broken plays, putbacks, and in the open court.

That team in the weak east can probably be a 500 club. Better, once you improve your back court.

Mind if I go off topic again?

I don’t want to write another diary or fanpost. I actually think I miss the term “diary.”

Who do you think will coach Phoenix? Basically, they’ll be bringing in a coach and telling him he’s go a year to win a championship then they will blow the team up. He can still have a team built around Amare Stoudemire after theY blow it up.

I hate to gloat, but man, I am the only person who called D’Antoni going to New York. No one in the media called it. I AM THE GREATEST OBNOXIOUS PERSON IN AMERICA! USA, USA, USA!

Knicks make the playoffs next season

A bold prediction, not quite as bold because it’s the East, but I’m making it nonetheless.

NY has some players, they just didn’t seem to have any structure. How could anyone possibly play well throughout that circus? I think Walsh and D’Antoni give the Knicks some instant credibility. NY is a major city, it offers plenty of money and fame, and the Knicks are a popular franchise even still with the fans. I think they’ll be back sooner rather than later.

by leeroyjenkins on May 13, 2008 11:46 AM PDT   0 recs

I could see that

D’Antoni only has to teach the team his offense, who cares about defense? Not him or his roster.

That's why I think Zach might have a monster year next season

Zach’s strengths: Shooting quickly, rebounding

Zach’s weaknesses: Defense, at times effort

I think D’Antoni’s system plays to the strengths and diminishes the defense weakness. I think the effort part works itself out. A happy Zach is a hard-working Zach.

I’m talking like 8 seed or something next season, not contender status or anything like that.

Mind if I Go Off Topic Again?

I am six hours behind the east coast so I listen to all the ESPN radio shows, Around The Horn, and Pardon The Interruption podcasts the next morning on the bus. So I’m a day behind the D’Antoni interview from PTI. First thing I notices was that Tony Kornheiser introduced him as D’Antonio. It was a great interview. (I squeezed in two links there)

Anyhow, it got me to thinking. How bad is Phoenix if D’Antoni would rather coach in New York, than there? I’m not talking about the $6 million bucks. D’Antoni said he wanted to retire in Phoenix. I looked over at Bright Sid Of The Sun and I think they all feel like they just got dumped.

Why is he so bright? And why do people call him “of the sun?” Hmm. Sid Meier is bright. But sunly? There’s the River Sid, but it’s in England, not the Sun. Oh, maybe it is Singapore’s Security and Intelligence Department?

What do you mean you put a link on it? Oh.
