Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

The Finals Will Suck [bitter fan tears ahead]

Ugh. Screw you Stern.

Am I the only one that cannot stand a single player from either team? If someone said Celtics vs Lakers in the finals, it's something I would tune into... in the 1980s.

Magic, Bird, Kareem, Walton? Hell yeah. Plenty of players to love on those teams.

But now? So many unlikable players on both franchises, and this is supposed to be "good" for the NBA?

Mind you, today is the one-year anniversery of when Kobe demanded to be traded from the Lakers. Not only that, but it was around this time the Celtics were screaming bloody murder after tanking their entire season in disgusting fashion and not getting a top two pick - only to be outdone by the Heat this season.

The influx of bandwagon fans is going to be vomit inducing. The same Boston fans that were chanting "Kobe for MVP" in the Boston arena, will be the same ones yelling "Beat LA" now.

This sucks.

The NBA: Where "all for ratings, all for egoes" happens.

Most hated West team vs. Most hated East team

LA will dominate

I’m glad in a way, because it will make beating the defending champs next year, all the more sweeter.

Depends on two things:

1) Given the injuries to Chauncy and Rip, does the front office think the window for this old team is over,
and that it’s the right time to start building the next version of the Pistons around the young ‘uns?

You know – like Portland did around ‘94-’95.

2) If not, and they opt to continue to try to win now with the Chauncy/Rip/Tayshaun/Sheed line-up,
how do those players feel about Flip: Has he lost this team (if those four will still be viewed as “this team”)?

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

by QualityPie on May 31, 2008 5:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Flip is as good as gone

If Dumars decides to stick with his vets I see him hiring Van Gundy. If he blows it up and goes with youth you might see Porter or an outside chance of Avery Johnson.

I'm a little confused by your tactics

Seriously?

Doc Rivers will have a shot at winning a championship as a coach.

DOC EFFING RIVERS.

James Posey to win a second ring? He’s a scumbag.

Derek Fisher? Flops like a fish alright.

Wow. Did someone let Piston fans in here?

C’mon guys. The Lakers as much as I hate them are playing great and I am happy that Ray Allen gets to play for a title. It should be a great series. Putting the personal stuff to rest it should be a great series.

Pistons fan?

How does that even make sense? I’m a die-hard Blazers fan first, and NBA fan second. How is this good for the NBA? These two franchises were on the verge of imploding a year ago, and now with some favorable trades done by some horrible GMs [Chris Wallace and Kevin McHale], they managed to turn it around and get to the Finals.

Basically, both teams were rewarded for nothing. If I were to believe in Karma, where would this rank?

This, as a fan of basketball, I find no joy in this.

exactly

not that i wish serious injury on anyone, but karma might get these teams, hopefully K*be

Karma caught up with the PTB during the trader Bob years

but really, don’t we talk about KP Pritchslapping other GM’s? Do we deserve bad Karma over that? No. It is looked at as KP outsmarting his colleagues.

Memphis chose to give away Gasol. The Lakers said, “Sure”. I don’t think there is anything cosmically wrong with that. They were fortunate. If you remember they were doing well before the trade/

San Antonio got Mike Finley for nothing and wins a title. It happens. The Celtics chose to mortgage their future for a few contending years now. Their choice.

I’m sick and tired of all those old donkey mother {expletive deleted} telling us that this is a great match up with a long history and crap. Who cares? What a joke? The court will be full of tears They just cry Rivers about noncall fouls. Which I hate player always complaining to the refs about fouls. Just shut up and play you cry babys(I want traded if I don,t get my way,Kobe, Paul P.,K.G) Ray Allen may be the best sportsman off both teams. But I dislike them all. It is just the dog face of the NBA.Can,t wait for the Blazer to Knock them both out and win it all. We Have a much classyer Team in The Portland Trail Blazers. What other sporting events are going on in June? Hmmm maybe I’ll get into horse racing, that Big Brown is supposed to be pretty good, right? Gag me if I watch baseball BLECH!! Maybe I can catch the last of the Stanley Cup, or is there some good MMA fights coming up? Maybe get into Euro 2008, hey alamart when is that running from? and who’s your team?

I'm going for the Lakers

Evil but true. The deciding factors? They’re west coast and except for Gasol they built the team. Gasol was a smart move. Plus… it’ll make it sooo much sweeter when we bounce of “the defending world champions” in the first or second round next year.

So for sake of all NBA fans everywhere it is MANDATORY that the Blazers Kick Kiester on all of the other teams and make it to the finals so that the sucking will stop.

Gonna be a great Finals

Lookin’ forward to the Finals with glee. A matchup for the ages. A classic battle of wits between Rivers and Jackson. Kobe will torch the Celts’ defense but KG will demolish Odom and Gasol and whoever else the Lkers try to guard him with. Odom will punk out and get a couple Ts. He’s the only one I really can’t stand on either team. Fisher is a class act. A total class act. And this time I really mean it. Gotta root for the Lkers. Sorry folks. Don’t like KG and don’t like Pierce. Dim witted muscleheads both of them. Gotta love Ray Allen (another class act, a total class act.) but that ain’t enough to cut the mustard in my book. Celtics in 7. Book it. This is their year. KG won’t let them lose. No more rings for Phil Jackass, he of the jocular Kickouts and Penetration, the promoter of ersatz enlightenment. Still, gotta admit, he’s a class act. A total class act.

Jackson

Is also a much better coach than people give him credit for. He gets teams over the top. He may not be able to build them from scratch, but if you have talent and Jackson, you’re going to win. He’s excellent managing the egos as well.

Gonna be an awesome finals

I dislike both teams and their fanbases, but from a basketball perspective it will be fabulous. Also, on the plus side, one of the two annoying fanbases will suffer a devastating loss.

Yeah agree here

These are the two best teams from their respective conferences going at it. I thought Detroit was better than Boston but apparently not.

Personally although a NO Orlando match up or something like it, would be interesting, I think these are the two best teams in the NBA going at it. Just because they are from storied franchises doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be viewed as the best teams in the NBA right now. Honestly this match up is waaaay better than Detriot vs San Antonio. Seriously, I think I wouldn’t even bother pretending to watch that.

KP: You know Mike Rice, Mike Barret you've both been very valuable to us this season. But I'd still trade you both for a couple of 2nd round draft picks.

Who was the lovable team last year?

just curious. I mean, it can’t be the endlessly whining, endlessly complaining Spurs, right? Bronbron, who has started talking about himself in the third person is lovable and cuddly?

Although yeah, the Pistons are actually pretty lovable and cuddly. They’re like #3 or 4 on my list of teams I root for when they’re not playing the Blazers (after golden state and the rockets). Love Tay and Sheed, and the young kids are fun.

by howlingfantods on May 31, 2008 1:25 PM PDT reply actions

Really?

Did the Spurs complain about the non-call on Fisher? Hell no. They kept their mouths shut and said it was not a foul – eventhough the league deemed it so.

Yeah, they complain during the game, but so does everyone – including Nate McMillan. The Spurs are THE model franchise. No trouble players, all class acts, and proven WINNERS. They built that team the right way.

Besides the flopping, how can you not enjoy a healthy Manu tearing the team he is playing a new one?

by damir on May 31, 2008 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Let's face it, those two teams had the best regular seasons.

They won the 82-game season, and here they are.
Same year as we finally saw all four 1-seeds in the NCAA Final Four.

And as much as I hate that, at least I have the peace of mind to know
that Portland did its part to avoid this, by whooping the L[xxx]rs’ butts twice in two tries in the Rose Garden.
If only the rest of the Western Conference had managed to BEAT! L! A! as much as we did,
then we wouldn’t be in this horrific situation in the first place.

And with Oden finally making his NBA debut next year, with Rudy on board and Roy an All-Star,
how much does La-La winning the Western Conference make likely a Blazers-L[xxx]rs season opener next year?
After all, we got the defending champs Spoors this season based on the same Oden/rising-Blazers premise,
without the added bonus of All-Star Roy and Rudy coming in.

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

by QualityPie on May 31, 2008 5:53 PM PDT reply actions

Buck up little campers

We should give the kids one last big 7 game classic before Portland spends a decade whooping Eastern Conference teams 4-0, 4-1 for the ring every single year
