Spurs poll

A simple question, now that the defending champion spurs once again fail to defend their title--falling to the L###rs 4 games to 1 in the WCF.

What next for Tim Duncan and crew?  Many predict the rise of the Blazers, but for the Blazers and other young teams to arise, someone has to fall.  Many are predicting the demise of Phoenix and Dallas within the next couple of years, if not next year; but the Spurs haven't made the hasty sort of trades that these other teams have made, foolishly bringing in over-the-hill veterans in a quest for quick gold.

So... in light of this year's playoff disappointment, the San Antonio Spurs are....

Poll
The San Antonio Spurs are...
...going to retool over the offseason--R.C. Buford is the true MVP of the West--and will be favorites next year
3 votes
...no longer the favorites, but cannot be counted out as long as Tim/Manu/Parker are all healthy and effective
49 votes
...still a dark horse to win next year, but the window is closing quickly. The dynasty may be coming to a close.
17 votes
...going to fade away, but they'll be back/remain dangerous. The management is too good for this team to slide into oblivion, and they find gold late in the draft.
6 votes
...starting that long slow slide out of contenderhood. They may remain a playoff team, but their title run is over.
19 votes
...done. Stick a fork in 'em. The rise of the Lakers, and new younger teams like Utah, Portalnd, and the Hornets means the Spurs are headed for mediocrity.
3 votes
...headed for the lottery. And why not--the last time they were there, they landed Duncan. Maybe lightning wil strike twice?
0 votes
...gonna suck bigtime in a few years, at which point it will be payback time for all the flops and fouls. It'll be like the Jerry Tarkanian era all over again.

Another horrible poll.

What is the question you are testing?

Try this:

Are the Spurs finished as a Western Conference power?

A. Yes.

B. No.

C. Maybe.

You forgot two

D. I don’t know.

E. Can you repeat the question?

And another

is next year on their normal cycle of championships?

Wow

For once, a poll with almost too many options. I already have option anxiety, and you didn’t help me much with your poll that was longer than your post.

Current team + Greg + Rudy = Blazers losing narrowly to the Spurs in the 2008-2009 Western Conference Finals. Book it.

Boooo timbo

this is the ideal poll. every other poll around here has two options and you really don’t usually feel like picking either of the two. This one gives you quite a range of freedom to express your opinion.

Good poll scotty.

I dunno

It does have a few too many options, but i do like the freedom that is given with the larger choice of selections

That was a tough poll.

I voted option 3, but option 2 was tempting as well. In fact, all the options seem like they could happen fairly easily.

Great poll.

First one too hot, this one is too cold

And so much a matter of life and death! If you dare conduct a poll on such a scientifically formal website it shall be just right. And if it isn’t, I must complain.

Choice 2 for me

They won’t go into the season as favorites, but that big 3 still has some quality years left… just maybe not enough for a 5th title.

I heard

The Spurs are going to sue the Blazers for using the term “Big 3.”

So I guess

the mid-eighties Celtics are planning on launching their own lawsuit against the Spurs.

I was watching a Piston/Celt game at Detroit the other night and their announcer, Mason,

used “Rip City” during the introduction of Rip Hamilton. Isn’t that © by the Blazers? Maybe the Blazers should sue the Pistons.

They were a step slow this series

No doubt about it, they’re on the down-side of the hill. I don’t know too much about their salary situation other than I think there’s only a couple fringe guys they could lose after the season.

Spurs are doneski.

They’ll still have the big 3, of course, but they’re about to lose all their quality role players to Father Time, and they have naught but the mid-level exception to replace them. No quality role players = no more titles for the Spurs.

Here's the facts:

Duncan is 32, Manu is 31, and Parker is 26.

They still have a few more years. All they need to do is bring in a fresh crop of role players.

Blake brings it up on the right, swings it to Webster on the elbow, he moves around the key and passes to the low left block for Aldridge, Aldridge jukes baseline, turns back in and finds Roy cutting down the seam, ROY THROWS IT UP AT THE RIM FOR ODEN WHO THROWS IT DOWN FOR THE TWO HANDED MONSTER JAM!!! That’s easier said than done, but if anyone can find some quality young role players for the right price, it’s RC Buford.

Colonel Rondo and his second round armada?

If Boston is determine to rebuild and cut salary isn’t two mid lotto pics and the right salary filler decent. Maybe not enough but better than what most teams get in that situation. I would prefer that over the Chris Paul package.

I hope and figure that the Trail Blazers could have the best of both worlds. I’ve never seen a more bountiful 2nd round. Its conceivable that the team could deal both lotto picks and still find some nice players in the draft. Players like Orlando Johnson, Lucas Nogueira, Kevin Jones, Will Barton are 1st rounders in most drafts even if its just based on hype and potential. Then you have some possible gems in such a deep draft like Machado, a couple guys that I personally like from Georgetown-their center Henry Sims and forward Hollis Tompson. Both high upside players that I would love to watch in the summer league. If PA were to ever buy into or trade into late first or second round now is the time. Give me Freeland, Diebler and four second rounders in the summer league with Rondo coaching.
