Last Train to Starkville - why Travis will remain a Blazer

Brandon Roy, "The Face of the Franchise" was asked at the end of the season what he was going to do this summer. This is a man in his early 20's, the prime of life, a multi-millionaire with a baby son.  After winning the R.O.Y. his first year and making the all-star team his second he's earned the right to go anywhere in the world he chooses.

In that situation where would you go?

Hawaii (to visit TIH)? Tahiti? Rent your own private Caribbean island? Hiking in the mountains? African safari? The Great Wall of China on route to watching the Olympics? Taj Mahal? Machu Picchu? Your own villa in Costa Rica? Just lay around your home and enjoy your family?

The answer given by The Face was... Starkville, Mississippi to visit Travis.

WHA????

I've been to a lot of places in the world and in this country but I've not been to Starkville. Going there IN THE SUMMER is only slightly higher on my current list than say Mynamar, Shanghai Province, Bahgdad just outside the Green Zone, Guantanamo or Tacoma.

KP's a brave man and a risk taker but are you telling me he's going to trade away the only reason our Roy is spending his prized time taking the last train to Starkville?

What do you think?

Good fishin

Travis is just going to show Brandon Roy how to rig his line for something other than planted rainbows. Who here wouldnt take the opportunity to hang out with Travis if they could?

If you dont talk to your cats about catnip, who will?

Devin Harris

I would say that this would be the one name that would keep Travis off the roster, but I don’t see it happening. New Jersey has long been a difficult team for us to trade with.

Thorn doesn't give anything away. He always wants 150% value in return.

I think it is safe to say that Thorn will never get Pritchslapped. Look what Thorn did to Cuban in that trade involving Kidd.

” OK Mark, I’ll give you this old point guard who wants to get traded and who is going to want an extension soon. You give me a young big in your rotation, your young point guard with All Star potential and a couple first round picks. Oh ya, your going to need to give me some cash on top of that before I change my mind. “

what a nice boy

I thought that Broy and Travis were pretty tight anyway? I think they were gonna work out together.

Good to hear

Maybe Roy can act as a Mentor and help Travis in his weak areas.

Maybe next year Roy can work on Webster and get him to open up.

When and where did Roy say this? I read an article in the fanshots by TiH,

but I didn’t see anything about Roy going to Starkville. It made it sound like he was chilling here in Washington.

Current team + Greg + Rudy = Blazers losing narrowly to the Spurs in the 2008-2009 Western Conference Finals. Book it.

In the Oregonian

Sorry I can’t point to a source. There was a big article in the Oregonian shortly after the season finished – around the exit interview time – in which I distinctly remember reading Roy saying he was going to Starkville. If anybody finds it or finds that’s not true let me know.

I used to live in Alabama

It has got to be humid as a mug down there right now. No doubt the bass fishing is good though.

Clearing Room For The Blazers Out West

As the playoff picture begins to take shape it becomes clear that the Western Conference is one big game of musical chairs. There are nine viable playoff teams; unfortunately there are only eight playoff spots. For the Blazers to get a spot, one of last year's playoff teams needs to fall off. Someone's going to be caught standing when the music stops. The following are possible scenarios that could derail each team on their quest for playoff glory, helping the Blazers get back to the postseason for the first time since 2003.

Check out the other scenarios over at Bustabucket
