Bulls Noah charged for marijuana
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Authorities in Gainesville have charged Chicago Bulls forward Joakim Noah with possession of marijuana and having an open container of alcohol.
Gainesville police spokesman Sgt. Rick Roberts says Noah was arrested around 1:50 a.m. Sunday after an officer spotted him on a sidewalk holding a plastic cup containing an amber drink, a violation of city law. During a search at the station, officers found marijuana in his pocket.
Noah was released after signing a notice to appear before a judge—standard procedure for such offenses. He could face up to 6 months in jail and a $500 fine for the marijuana charge.
Noah led the Gators to consecutive national championships before being selected ninth overall in last June’s draft by the Bulls. He averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 74 games as a rookie.
Bulls spokesman Tim Hallam said general manager John Paxson “did express to Joakim his disappointment in his actions this weekend” and added: “Until we gather further information on this situation, we won’t be making any further comment.”

idiot....
hes not even that good of a basketball player he dint even deserve to get picked at number 7 only reason he did was cause of his gators championship win
Oden...Aldridge...Roy.....THE REAL BIG THREE
Watch my brandon roy vid http://youtube.com/watch?v=RC3Byp4ID1E
he's underrated.
Good defensive player, good rebounder, heady player and solid around the rim. Very limited offensively, but a very useful NBA player. Perhaps not worthy of the #7 pick (he was actually picked 9th), but a very useful NBA player.
Boomshakalaka
Haha
The Bulls are in trouble. If I were them, I’d pull a fire-sale. Give everyone away if you have to, and start over with Rose.
Current team + Greg + Rudy = Blazers losing narrowly to the Spurs in the 2008-2009 Western Conference Finals. Book it.
Reason # 99 million 773...
to decriminalize marijuana.
Why is the state of Florida (or any state anywhere in the world) wasting public resources arresting and prosecuting an adult for possessing the dried flowers of a plant?
Some overpaid schmuck assistant prosecutor 2 years removed from law school is going to be tasked with prosecuting (persecuting) young Mr. Noah. That young energetic assistant DA is probably very intelligent and capable of accomplishing far more useful things. But Americans are stupid or something. They evidently would prefer to use the justice system to persecute Mr. Noah. How unbelievably mindless.
Winning is everything.
Don't you know?
Marijuana was banned to run Mexicans (who were taking jobs from white) out of Texas during the Great Depression. The real question is why hasn’t the ban be lifted? Probably because for the majority of the population alcohol is the drug of choice.

I've Done Way, Way, Way, Way, Way, Way, Way, Way, Way Worse
Oh the stories I could tell, alas, this is a family environment. This is only a big deal because he is in the NBA. He should know better, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. He had alcohol in a cup and weed in his pocket. When I was five years older than he is now, I was walking out of Max’s tavern, with my pint in hand, on my way to Taylor’s. I will not mention what might, or might not have been in my pocket.

You're a towel.
Maybe we can get him on the cheap? I think he’d be a great backup pf/c.
I like him. He has the emotion and passion of Sheed but he's very young
and there’s still time for someone to teach him to direct it constructively. If a joint and a plastic cup full of an amber liquid is enough to ruin his career there’s something wrong.

He's just a victim...
His facial features lend him to be more of a crack/FAS baby rather than a reefer/FAS baby….
Can we put the whole "weed' subject to bed for now? I am tired of
reading about it on a basketball blog. It seems to be coming up over and over again on this site. Right, wrong, whatever. Let’s keep it to basketball. Can we agree to put a moratorium on weed discussion for the next year?

A 23 year old man...
ARRESTED for drinking beer on the street. The pot is irrelevant to his arrest, that was found during “booking” at the station. HE WAS ARRESTED FOR DRINKING ALCOHOL!!! ARRESTED!!!!
Cop: What’s that in that cup big fella?
Noah: Well, its some beer I legally bought earlier this evening.
Cop: Thats It! Get on the ground!!! I SAID ON THE GROUND!!! HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD!!!
Noah: ????huh????
Cop: You have the right to remain silent, anything you say or do can be held against you…..
Noah: ????wha????
Cop: Book em fellas, another scumbag off the street….
The system works people, the system works…

Probably
Public intoxication charges… Really, its just to keep groups of drunks roaming the streets disturbing the peace. Its not really a bad rule, but it could probably be abused.

In many locales,
drinking in public (meaning, on the street—not in a pub or simlar establishment) is illegal.
A dumb law, I think—but what do I know?

True, but...
How often is an arrestable offense? I have been caught with an open container in Corvallis. The cop made me poor out my beer and served my an open container ticket. It was a $40.00 fine and didnt even require a court date. I just cant imagine actually being arrested for drinking a beer. Disturbing the peace is one thing, drinking an amber colored beverage is another….

I'm assuming
Noah’s height, the way he looks, perhaps his fame, led to more of an example being made out of Mr. Noah.
I agree, getting caught by a cop drinking in public is one thing, and can lead to a citation on the spot or simply being made to pour out your drink. I can’t remember anyone I knew in college or recently getting ARRESTED for it and being taken into a police station and searched. The fact that this happened to Noah raises my eyebrows to heretofore new levels of raising.
With Noah’s rep as a big mouth, maybe he talked back to the cop, which isn’t a good idea. Maybe he was extremely drunk and is a big lush. If it was simply an amber beverage on the street, then bringing him ‘down town’ is completely ridiculous and not the norm.
Looking so goofy and being 7 foot might have worked against Noah this time. THIS time…
