Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

The NBA's All-Z-Bo Team

After hearing that Carmelo Anthony was the SF version of Z-Bo, I got to thinking. Amongst the other positions, who are the most Z-Bo-esque? We're looking strictly at me-first, offense-only, possibly-overpaid, can't-win players here. Bonus points if their team seems better off without them.

PG: Gilbert Arenas, Washington

SG: Michael Redd, Milwaukee

SF: Carmelo Anthony, Denver

PF: Zach Randolph, NYK

C: Eddy Curry, NYK

So, in conclusion: Good luck, D'Antoni!

Oddly enough,

I think the Knicks and Bucks could work a trade that would make them both better.

Gilbert Arenas is funny

If it fills a need, if it fills a rebuilding situation. And my goal is to fill and rebuild and I am not going to be shortsighted.

Not bad

I think Carmelo is a much better player than any of those other 4. He’s a me first guy like the rest, but he’s better than them.

His team

Still seems like it might be better off without him though.

by trk on May 22, 2008 12:52 PM PDT up reply actions

I'd like to see that team, as a scientific study

Would they ever pass the ball?

Would they ever cross the halfcourt line to play defense?

Would they yell at each other on every play?

After the other team scores (which would be often), would the game stop because all five players want to receive the ball on the inbounds pass and none of them was willing to step behind the baseline to inbound it?

How fast would the coach get fired?

The Big Question: Would being forced to play with other selfish players at some point make them learn to play team ball?

by MiledAnimal on May 22, 2008 11:50 AM PDT reply actions

They should just play 10 guys

5 on one side for defense and 5 on the other side for offense. They can’t cross the center unless they tag like in wrestling.

Z-Bo and Curry played together

And if ya asks me, I think Z-Bo regressed mightily compared to his previous season with the Blazers. Being with another ballhog in Curry and Starbury and Nate Robinson and Jamal Crawford just made Z-Bo know that he NEEDS to shoot when he actually gets the ball.

There isn’t a huge reason Z-Bo can’t be good in the right situation. He needs to be next to a defender down low, and have good perimeter defenders preventing, and might be more trouble than he is worth, but he is extremely talented offensively.

But on a team of guys just like him, but not as good, is a baaaaad situation. He took a step back to Me-Bo.

Al Jefferson & Eddie House

should be in there too.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

by OCBlazerFan1 on May 22, 2008 12:27 PM PDT reply actions

Yup yup

Big Al is just a better, more athletic version of Z-Bo. He is a BALL—HOGG and don’t play no defense. He’s a beast on offense though, and can dunk, which sets him apart from Z-Bo right there.

Eddie House is a gunner, but he gets a little slack from me because he’s just a bench player who comes in to jack up 3’s. Yeah, he couldn’t do more if they wanted him to, but at least it is his role.

House isn't in the same class

House will shoot only when he has the ball. He knows it and teams that employ him know it. The difference with House is that is all that he is asked to do. No team picks up Eddie House thinking that he is going to be “The Man” like the players in the first team.

House will shoot only when he has the ball.

That’s good….cause if he was shooting when other people had the ball, that would be embarrassing.

I LIKE JEFFERSON...

.................. but then again, I liked Zach, too.

People seem to think 20/10s grow on trees. They do not.

Ooph

How far has HE fallen where he is nearly completely forgotten when making an All-Ball-Hog list? If I was him, I’d be more hurt by someone forgetting to put him on a list like this, than actually being on the list.

It’s like he caught the Raef Lafrentz degeneritive disease that makes a 28/29/30 year old body play like a shadow of it’s former self before that time is due. Maybe their shadows ran off and need to be sewed back on, like Wendy did for Peter Pan?

Who is Antoine’s Wendy?

The thing is...

the other guys on the list are really skilled players. ‘Toine in Boston would have been a good fit, but the later versions of ‘Toine weren’t good enough to make this team.

Raef blew out his knee

He actually wasn’t at all bad before he got hurt.

Walker doesn’t have that excuse.

Speaking of current/former Miami Heat players, I don’t see Ricky Davis mentioned anywhere.

We could also make an All-Hack team.

Bruce Bowen would be Hall of Fame. Horry could be there, Ha wasn’t afraid to lay the wood on people either (although most of his shots were due to clumsyness).

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
