Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Would you like Fryes with that?

I love Channing Frye, with his sense of humor surpassed only by Oden and a buffet of goodness skill set. Philly needs a power forward badly! According to the rumors I have read there is interest primarily in the big name free agents, but all the power forwards came off big injuries this year and only 5 players on their roster do not have contract issues coming this summer, including Igoudala. The other options listed in the rumor were Seattle's Wilcox and one Channing Frye. The rumor supposes that they trade a player and their lotto pick (#7 by standings) for him. Let's not talk about Andre Miller's 9 million + over the next 2 years which would destroy our lofty free agent ambitions. Would you be willing to let Frye leave for the lotto pick with a Thaddeus Young and filler?  Is there anyone else on the roster that looks interesting?

What?

Who says we could have their pick (7) and Thaddeus for Frye? There’s no way they do that….......am I reading it wrong?

I'm sorry!

That was a typo I missed, yes pick number 16 is what they supposedly offer.

That sounds better

Ok, now it makes sense, and yes, I’d do that in a heartbeat. I’d give them Frye straight up for Thaddeus even.

Thaddeous Young and the #16 for Frye?

I love Channing, but I’d do that. Something tells me the 6ers wouldn’t though.

Thaddeus?!

Hmm, I think he’s a keeper and a half for the 76ers, and Frye and our lottery pick wouldn’t be near enough to snag him away. I dunno how smart he is, or if he’s a good defender, but he’s gonna be a pretty good scorer in the NBA and is really athletic. He’s young, and I can’t see Philly trading him for anything short of a known star-level power forward.

Last year was a really good draft, what with Young and Julian Wright going so late in the lottery… those guys are gonna be good, no doubtaboutit.

Perhaps Spencer Hawes and Eazy Yi are the only ones who shouldn’t have been picked in their draft position, but even they should be fine players.

Frye has decent value, but unfortunately not that much. He would give the 76ers a shooter though, something they definitely don’t got. I’m not sure who we could use from them next season… this past year, we sure coulda used a Reggie Evans to rebound off the bench, but next year I doubt that’ll be a problem. Hmmmm…

Perhaps a deal with the Sixers is viable, but not for one of their young pieces.

I thought

Miller’s contract was in its last year, this coming year? (meaning he would be a FA after the 09 season)

If that was the case, then I wouldn’t mind picking up Miller + their 1st rounder for Frye. We would give a quality starting PG for next season, + an additional pick to possible pair with our 1st to move up in the draft or use in another trade. Miller, being on the down side of his career might even resign for much less after next season, (no way someone gives him more than 10 million per again).

I don't know about the '76ers

But if someone made a great offer for Frye, I think KP would have to consider it. Frye is actually one of my favorite Blazers, and I’d hate to see him go. But with Trout, Frye, Martell, & LMA, the Blazers have an awful lot of none-too-physical forwards. Where’s the beef? Somewhere along the line, that will need to be addressed. NBA contenders have a lot of bruisers, and the refs let ‘em do what they want come playoff time. GO and Przy can’t hold the fort alone: you’ve got to have some forwards who can shove back.

Frye is a keeper

As much as a like Channing’s soft spoken good nature…. its too soft… hopefully Luke can work with him this summer and repeatedly give him the elbow to the chest Luke always opened the game with. Maybe if Channing got tough and developed a semblence of a post game, he would be a great advantage off the bench for when our bigs get in foul trouble. I think Channing does have game if developed. Word to Channing Frye- dont take the summer off.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
