What happens if we pick 3rd?

Do we keep the pick and draft big like Lopez or small like Bayless or Mayo?

Or do we trade the pick for oh let's say............Harris or Calderon?

I like the idea of drafting Bayless to play the point. If he isn't an accomplished Point Guard already then he can learn on the job. Roy would not have any problems being the unofficial PG. Bayless could bring the ball up and hand of to Roy to call plays and set the team up. We could then give Jack away and keep Blake to help mentor young Jerryd.

If we decide to go big and draft Brook Lopez, we would have a backup big man all teams would envy. Now before any of you start to laugh, another benefit of having a big man like Lopez on the bench is for trade bait. If we draft him and develop him, we can turn around and trade him when there is a team desparate for a big man. Plus a guy that can post up and rebound is always good. We still don't know how Oden will hold up injury wise. We might have to draft 'Best Player Available'

Trading the pick makes the most sense to me. I'd call New Jersey up and offer Jack and the 3rd pick. That seems fair to me but would need possibly a third team to be invovled. We could also trade the rights to our players overseas..................Oh yeah not including Rudy who as we all know is off limits to anyone.

Another option we have is to trade down in this draft to pick up a guy I would love to have ...............Russell Westbrook. With all the offense we will have, picking up a defender like Russell will be invaluable. Westbrook will be able to help keep Oden out off foul trouble and on the court blocking shots and rebounding and scoring and well DOMINATING! Remember none of our guards are above average defenders so we need one that can be.

The last option we would have is my favorite. TRADING UP! Yeah baby, trading up to get ..... can we all take a deep breath and say it aloud ...............................................Derrick ROSE!       It can't be that difficult to trade up one spot right? It will be. But its worth a shot and we got the players teams want. But at what price? Rudy? LMA?Oden?Roy? I guess it will depend on which teams get #1 and #2.

Don't do this to me

I thought today was Tuesday and that I somehow missed the Lottery and missed the fact that we won the 3rd pick somehow.

With that said, 3rd pick I’d try to move up for Rose if possible. Calder = no D, and D.Har = no shot.

Thanks PA, KP, Nate, BRoy, LMA, GO, 'Tell, Trout, JJ's, Buffet, Blake (not Blakey), Thrilla Hundred-dolla Billa, McBob (just 'cuz you're cool), Sergio (just 'cuz you've got flash), and Raef (ummm...just 'cuz)....and Dean Demo, Maurice, Monty (You rock Monty!), Bill Bayno (good luck with your new job), Bobby, Jay, and everyone else I'm forgetting (scouts, other front office people) who made the Return of Rip City possible, including the media (Mike B., Casey, Dave, Ben). And tominhawaii. Can't forget him.

Trading Down

Skipping Paul and Williams for Martel and Jack is the result of trading down from an early pick. May we never consider this again. More than any other league, the cream rises to the top in the NBA, and any time you can get a potential star you take him. Let’s not talk ever again about trading down. Moreover, the Blazers have plenty of good players. We now want to move in the direction of quality over quantity.

Or if HOUSTON had traded down for Jordan.

Specifically, if they had traded down to #2.

We get Phi Slamma Jamma, Houston gets MJ, and Da Bulls get drunk.

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

The Bulls get Bowie!

As they have stated a few times since 1984, they would have chosen Bowie if available

With the 3rd Pick

With select OJ Mayo.

Or Brook Lopez…....and move LMA to the 3. How awesome would that be.

Pick #3...

Draft OJ Mayo, he is a no brainer talent that can play combo guard next to BRoy all day and give teams fits on how to guard this duo. Mayo can create his own shot of the dribble, has a very quick first step, already can consistently knock down pull up jumpers and 3’s, is a lock down defender, at 6’4” he can guard pretty much anyone any team could play in either guard slot, and he can dunk.

Mayo is a much better prospect than Arizona’s Bayless. This year when Bayless came into the fold with his Arizona team, he had a great year, but the players around him didn’t get better or play better. Bayless is the same type of guard that Gilbert Arenas was at Arizona, shoot first.

Can you say, "RUDY Fernandez"?

Next year we will have a “talent that can play combo guard next to BRoy all day and give teams fits on how to guard this duo. “

Rudy “can create his own shot of the dribble, has a very quick first step, already can consistently knock down pull up jumpers and 3’s, is a lock down defender, at 6’4" 6’6” he can guard pretty much anyone any team could play in either guard slot, and he can dunk.”

Don’t need no Mayo.

That would like Chapotle Mayo

I know …I know…That is a stretch (Spanish v Mexican)

I agree - hold the Mayo

I don't think...

... Brook Lopez is a good fit for us. He likes to shoot too much. Trading down is fine as long as you aren’t missing out on a special player. I don’t think anyone outside the top 2 is a special player.

I would absolutely try to trade up to get Rose but I think the price will include LMA (at least) which will ultimately be more than the Blazers want to give up.

Same thing we would do at #1.

Draft the best player available.

Trade Freeland!

by rockingharder on May 19, 2008 9:30 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I'd draft Bayless

I’m no expert in college bball but I think he’s the best fit.
Great ball handler ( Mayo is not)
Great off the ball and with the ball. ( mayo always had the ball when I saw him play)
Great on fast breaks.
Not very good oon the half court offense ( but we have roy)
Not as good defender as Mayo but has a lot of potential.

Another option is to trade outlaw and jack +3rd pick for the 1st and get rose.

by Falcao on May 19, 2008 1:21 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Outlaw+Jack+3...

... is not nearly enough to get the #1 pick. This is the equivalent of Atlanta offering us Childress+Salim Stoudamire+3rd pick for our #1 pick last year. KP would have had a good laugh about that offer.

Let’s be realistic here folks. In order to turn the #3 into the #1, we’d have to dangle LaMarcus just to get the other team to not immediately hang up the phone… and it still might not be enough.

I think you're right

but I’m not sure how much more I’d pay. We could include future picks and Sergio, but I don’t think I’d include Rudy.

what about rudy and/or ..... Outlaw

...unless of course you think outlaw is better than D. Rose

Love

I am starting to think that Kevin Love is the 3rd best prospect in the draft. I know most mock drafts have Mayo, Bayless, and Lopez competing for the 3rd spot, but I am not impressed with any of them. Love was much more productive than any of them last year, despite being the younger and playing on a better team. And that was BEFORE he started getting in shape…

If we have the 3rd pick and can trade down while still getting arguably the 3rd best prospect, we might as well do it.

by trk on May 19, 2008 3:29 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I'd draft LeBron James.

Then think up a reason to sue the league to make the choice stick. If faced with an injunction prohibiting teams from playing, or just telling Cleveland that “Hey sorry about that, but you have to send him to Portland.” Which do you think will happen?

The hell with Mayo, Bayless, Rose, Harris, Calderon, etc. I say draft James.

by timg56 on May 19, 2008 4:10 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Since no other team thought of it first,

we might as well use one of our second round draft picks on him, then we’re really not out anything.

Good thinking.

Nothing like the power of collaborative teamwork – or am I repeating myself again?

This is why we should buy the last pick in the second round.

It could probably be gotten for a half-eaten ham sandwich.

that it was our idea, when LeBron suits up as a Blazer?

SOMEONE is gonna pick third.

I think this is an interesting question no matter WHO ends up with that pick!
Draft day is gonna be fun this year . . .

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

Whoever ends up out of 1 or 2 is SORRY!

Much like last year but Atlanta actually did well with AL Horford.
