NBA rules the world!

For an entirely different reason I was reading on FIBA.com and encountered a stunning announcement. Perhaps I was asleep and missed the posting here since it is dated April 28, 2008.

As most of us know the USA plays basketball and the world plays an entirely different game with different rules. That disparity is over. FIBA is the rule-making body for the world and the Olympics. FIBA has adopted NBA rules!

World breakthrough as NBA and FIBA put their eggs in one basket

Star-divide

When I first read this I thought is must be a joke. But posted on FIBA.com gives it credence.

But no more. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) took the giant leap yesterday at its meetings in Beijing, when its highest executive body - the FIBA Central Board - announced a number of rule changes, which in effect will make the international and NBA game virtually the same.

Even FIBA's press release referred to "historical changes", and indeed in one fell swoop, FIBA did a "copy and paste" from the NBA rule book to its own:

You can read the whole announcement here .

More Euros

Scouts would be better able to assess whether Euros are NBA material.

I wonder

Are they still using the trapezoid?

by Devenex on May 19, 2008 8:20 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Nope

As of 2010 all the keys will be repainted to be rectangles. Also, the three-point line is moving from 20’ 6.1” to 22’ 1.7”...should help our boys in the red, white and blue come the 2010 World Championships. Those dang European sharpshooters are gonna have to sharpshoot from another foot and a half further out!

By the way

Great pun on the title of this diary. I didn’t catch it until the second go-around. BoB hat-tip to you, sir.

Why thank you!

Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

Second that.

Thanks PA, KP, Nate, BRoy, LMA, GO, 'Tell, Trout, JJ's, Buffet, Blake (not Blakey), Thrilla Hundred-dolla Billa, McBob (just 'cuz you're cool), Sergio (just 'cuz you've got flash), and Raef (ummm...just 'cuz)....and Dean Demo, Maurice, Monty (You rock Monty!), Bill Bayno (good luck with your new job), Bobby, Jay, and everyone else I'm forgetting (scouts, other front office people) who made the Return of Rip City possible, including the media (Mike B., Casey, Dave, Ben). And tominhawaii. Can't forget him.
